Old man was a wizard at doing lead wiping he was old school born in 1954 he would tin up a join with cemtec and use 30/70 lead he used to say the same thing everything has to be perfectly clean I seen him flair the guards on his EH I wish I had his skills he would have bets with blokes in pubs about his EH flairs and prove a point with a 50cent coin out in the car park his nickname was no plaz byrnes definitely a forgotten art I was lucky enough to learn the basics at tec school in my trade as a beater old man would get up me if I used a wizza on lead with no marsk 😂😂😂cool video .. I can’t wait to start restoring my 75 TD cortina in my own shed and space with no boss pushing me to the deadline
Thanks for sharing and cool little story. Good luck on your Cortina build and your spot on build it in your own time can get it perfect that way.
This car has come a long way.
The work carried out is spot on. I watch a few other channels and no one is lead wiping or file finishing in australia. They Bog and flog. It’s a credit to you Gentleman. Keep up the hard work.
Couldn't believe the price Lead cost looking it up.
On iTunes maybe but every panel beater technician in Australia over the age of 40 knows how to pick& file lead should come back but there is not an insurance company in the accident world that would pay the correct hours for it to be done. It’s a craft that take a long time to master and the skill is now not even focused on in TAFE colleges rather bag and tag Computer and other components correctly in the old school coach building and is shamefully now not focused on what they were. Still some really good fabricators out there in Australia that do hand build panels and lead up joints it is a far superior way to finish off a repair.that will last if a beater does not ask who supplies the fall blades, or you can’t find a metal file in his box he is not worth hiring, even if a shop can only afford to spend three hours on a six hour repair as far as RUclips goes you only believe a quarter of what is videoed it is the biggest load of crap when it comes to watching people repair cars and 85% of all people that put videos on RUclips just like to inflate their ego. and truly have no real experience in the body repair industry let alone the ones that call themselves fabricators that would struggle building a letterbox
Welcome back Darryl & Mick. I’ve missed my Sunday night Adamson’s XU1 fix.
Thanks for coming back @tony.benfield8499 we appreciate your comment have a good weekend cheers 👍
I owned an LJ XU1 in the very late 70s. It was a strike me pink repainted white. I loved it and watching this just makes me yearn for those days. Excellent excellent work gentlemen, you should be proud of you achievement

It’s been a few weeks boys welcome back. I’m loving the lead wiping on this one. Well done boys you boys are the real deal. Nothing beats back to factory finish. Real tradesmen ❤
Thanks @linz7172 we appreciate your comment and the next episode will be more in depth with lead wiping. Thanks for watching 👍
Once again nicely executed Pops & Mick. Cheers from Adelaide Fellas 🍻👍
Thank you @jeremyconway5793 enjoy the long weekend and thanks for your comment 👍
WOW Awesome work fellas. The nose was the standout feature of these awesome little rockets and you've both done an awesome job of making it perfect. It's great to see lead wiping done these days. Hopefully it's not becoming a lost art. It really was the bog of yesteryear but better. It's great to see how it just sinks in and adheres so well and is able to flex without cracking or retaining moisture.
Hey @davidvincent2838 thanks for leaving an awesome comment. It is actually really fun to work with as well. Cheers @davidvincent2838 👍
Great to have you back guys! really enjoyed this one! getting closer that's for sure and the Orange sure is going to pop!

thankyou guys, I never stop learning from you
Cheers @stuartbrearley3562 enjoy your weekend 👍
Hi guys. Long time between videos. I have absolutely loved watching your videos. It's really good to see another team doing incredible work . Most people don't understand how much work and money goes into perfection. I do and it's six figures in paint and panel. Southern classic and custom did my seabring orange GTR. I would love to have the two cars side by side to show the world of perfection.
Hey @DarrylCrozier
It's always good to have guys like your self that have been there and done it. Your spot on it takes time and money to get them right. . Thank you for that awesome comment and watching the build 👍 Great idea the cars would look absolute awesome together.
Fantastic work 👏 👍 👌

Your video quality is as good as your panel beating now, even an awesome b-roll with music of the stone guard after it was applied.
Your dummy spot welds are mint, please share how you do it.

Cheers @lauriekennedy7984
Glad to see you back been waiting to see how it's been coming along. Did you lose the footage of spot welding the guards on?
unfortunately I lost a full episode from computer issues. Thanks for watching @Gozza71 enjoy your weekend 👍
Gee how many hours you guys got into this restoration??
It’s coming together nicely 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
Hey @bigblockfantasy
There are to many hours lol , its been a long process and trying to stick to a budget. Thanks for watching 👍 we appreciate your comment.
Great job on the lead wipe, I have always done that on my bike tank restos it never shrinks like bog and never rusts underneath if done properly, I always paint my bikes proper paint for the era enamel for the really old stuff and acrylic for 50 s to 80s stuff, the 2 pack looks a bit plastic on the older cars/ bikes ?
Hey @steveb9270 Nice mate that's the go on the tanks. It depends how it's mixed and sprayed on we find mate. Thanks for watching the show mate 👍
Is that original color? Is it Lone O ranger? Hard to tell... I had same in the 73 model. Mine was a weird car, when it was stripped down for paint it had a patched hole in each of the rear quarters. The paint shop cleaned them up before painting but it was odd. Was a weird car because it had really heavy front springs and sway bar compared to other xu1s I'd seen at shows. Possibly after market but they looked as old as the rest of the suspension. Same as the steering shaft knuckle was super small compared to the large knuckles on all other cars. Still was a nice car though. Nice work you guys are doing here. Going to look mint!
Hey @3800TURBO this car is Lone O Ranger.
Thanks for sharing that and we appreciate the comment 👍
Great vid again enjoyed it immensely.
Didnt you guys get a PPG paint system in ?,but your using Dulux products on the Tory
Hey @traviswilliams1360 The Torana come out with Dulux so we decided to go with Dulux on this build, We use a few different brands on different jobs. The Charger will be done in PPG Vibrance
@adamsonautobody
Yeah fair enough ,the Dulux covered easily buy the look of it,I used some solid 2k red in Lesonal that shit would not cover .
@@traviswilliams1360 The Dulux is unreal in solid 2ks.
Hey guys love your work im curious to know where do you get your wooden handle panal files from cheers
Hey Josh we had a Guy make them years ago. There might be a wood worker out there who can make for you.
Thanks for watching
@joshuagolding3048👍
No worries mate thank you im a panel beater myself keep making vids i love watching it 👍👍
It would have been good if you explained more about how to not over heat the lead or panels so it doesn’t run but needs to be softened enough to spread out. Please correct me if it’s wrong but I never grind lead only file and use a da fist 40 grit then 80 down to 120 then 180 finishing 240 lightly I was always taught to firstly have a low, blowing fan, and then, later, when dust extraction came out to use, that never haven’t blowing around in the air
Thanks for leaving the comment @GadibundhuAdmin we have made a more in depth video on the lead wiping. It will be out later this week.
That’s another art in itself done it at TAFE done well never use it again not to that extent
Thanks for watching @petergill8819 we appreciate your comment 👍
under body of bonnet looks like it has never be touched?
Not yet mate. we will leave that last.
Why paint under striker instead of doing the whole door jam? Then obviously you going to mask the striker up to paint door jam. I don't like masking strikers its an edge that paint that the paint will possibly flake from. Love your work but little things like this spin me out.
Hi @alanjones99 cheers for the comment and this has always worked a treat for us with no dramas. We appreciate the comment and thanks for watching 👍
When you go to your trouble why not remove the seam completely and just metal finish it
Hey @bigears4014 The reason we don't weld this fully is because the cars are made to flex and have crumple zones. Welding factory seams will harden these areas and create stiff and a rigid body. It will change the way the car will crumble in an accident. Lead was often applied in areas like body seams and joints to prevent water intrusion and rust, providing a flexible yet durable seal. When Replacing these panels it's also easy to melt the lead to remove the panels for repairs.
Thanks for the great question mate cheers 👍
Awesome Work Guys. Keep it up
CHEERS @matthewlarge9301 thanks for taking time to leave a comment 👍
I had a old fella show me this on my GTR we did nose cone joints and few repaires .very tricky but no cracking
Thanks for leaving a comment and watching the build @twistedthrottle8513 cheers 👍
Thank God for the old fellas showing there know how.
