  • Stargazing in Scotland is truly a mesmerising experience. Just picture twinkling stars, galaxies and constellations light up the night sky as you take in the serenity of your surroundings. The best places to spot a shooting star or two is away from bustling towns and cities where high levels of light pollution can disrupt your view of the starry skies. Here are a few top suggestions:
The Cairngorms National Park is located in the Highlands of Scotland and boasts raw, untouched landscapes to discover during the day, and at night you can stargaze until your heart’s content. Situated just an hour north of Perth and accessible by bus, train and car, this stargazing destination is one to add to the list!
Head south to Galloway International Dark Sky Park in Dumfries & Galloway. In 2009 Galloway Forest Park become one of the first in the world to earn this title and recognition, and once you’re here you can see why! Nestle yourself amongst the tranquil forests, located just an hour south of Glasgow and 2 hours from Edinburgh.
Also in Dumfries & Galloway you can find Moffat, Europe’s First Dark Sky Town. The town was crowned this title after installing special street lighting to help keep light pollution to a minimum, meaning you’ve got more opportunities to see the starry skies light up.
