Thanks! After a really long stretch of nothing going on that we could possibly make it to, this one was out our window! First for me actually seeing the marine units in action at a fire.
You would think that this facility would have large bore nozzles mounted inside and above the barges for situations like this, similar to what some newer transfer stations have. But then we wouldn't get to see a few of FDNY fire boats in operation...lol...Great video.
Yup… thought the same thing. Even an uncharged sprinkler system with deluge type heads with external FD connection would be fairly inexpensive to install and would be far safer and easier to utilize.
Cool, now I’m reading about this-I didn’t realize the pumps were that powerful that there’s no pressurizing needed. Never really thought about it before!
You definitely need a drone…. By utilizing “Drone Hacks” and other firmware modifications, you can continue to fly many DJI “pro-sumer” drones in NFZ restricted areas. The Air-2s and SOME of the Mavic-3 models can easily be made capable of flight in just about any area/situation. Of course, I fully comply with all laws and regulations pertaining to the operation of UAS / drones. The above “tip” is for use by pilots attempting to fly craft in known areas not restricted but incorrectly marked in the DJI mapping systems.
Oh that’s interesting. I had assumed pretty much everything was off limits in NYC… definitely going to read up on it now. Drone photography seems very appealing to me, and I think my son would totally get a kick out of it!
@@TripleJFire Not that I’d ever condone breaking rules & regs…. 😉 Seriously, the drone-hacks firmware modification was only around $50 bucks and unlocked the Air-2s completely. My current favorite drone is the DJI Mavic-3 . It has approx 45min airtime per battery and I have 10 batteries per drone “just in case”. If you are anywhere near the Morris County, NJ area, I’d be more than happy to take you and your son out for an afternoon of drone flight. I’m retired now (Ankylosing Spondylitis & pSA) and having the drone hobby has truly been a blessing. I have just about every DJI drone from the beginning of the Mavic series and have a complete wireless video transmission system (HDMI video / 300meter range / encrypted signal) that permits an IC or Chief to view what the drone operator is seeing on the remote controller. I also have a pair of remote controllers that have RF bidirectional amplifiers & patch type directional antennas for long distance range. I always fly VLOS (visual line of sight), but having that extra range is great to overcome Wi-Fi congestion (drones/controllers use 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz spectrum). The distance achieved is approx. 15,000-20,000 feet. If your Son is older than 11 or so, he should find it a breeze to fly one of these modern UAS craft. Good luck! 👍🏻
@@TripleJFire One other thought…. The FDNY apparently uses video retransmission as well. (drone operator to command post and field com unit) IF they are not utilizing encryption AND you are close enough to their transmitter (small device approx the size of a small portable 2-way radio), you can likely snag their video stream ! The most common devices used = DJI / TeraDeck / FeelWorld / etc). You can simply take a receiver and have it “auto tune” to the channel w/ the strongest signal and you now have HDMI video/audio available from your receiver. Record with any video recording device with SDI or HDMI input and you have a much better view of the scene.!
Sorry.. I screwed up one of the links. Here is my 2nd. channel… This playlist is from an MVA with an extreme entrapment. Most shot at 14x - 28x zoom. I didn’t want my drone anywhere near the actual scene as an NJSP medevac was in the air, so I shot most from above my house. ruclips.net/p/PLqJH3kaYOHptP2Lt5STTjYwBKWrlQEmbj&si=61BQvEu6HMrx7SJs The rest of the channel has a few other other fire related footage to give you an example of what can be achieved with a “toy” drone. Also.. the RUclips channel run by Ken Heron is excellent for new drone users.
Oh cool, going to check out your channel very soon! Thanks for all the info. And that’s an interesting idea about tapping into the FDNY stream… not that different from the basic idea of using a scanner for audio!
I don’t think anything too bad/much more than normal went into the river… from what I understand, this pier is a transfer station for paper and cardboard. Smelled like a campfire. Now if they had LI batteries in there or something… yeah, that would be different!
I believe they changed the name of that river quite some time ago. The “HazMat River” actually benefits from toxic sludge being dumped into it’s glistening waters… 😉🤣
I never found out what caused it, but the building is a paper and cardboard recycling transfer facility, so that kinda explains why it took a while to get under control…
Great job as usual! Nice job getting units on scene, and good shots of Marine Units! Keep it up!

My dude got a 4 star wanted level just for filming a fire. Right on.
That’s exactly what we were thinking 😂
Amazing footage! I subscribed
Thanks! It worked out great that the new pier 97 reopened recently, gave us a perfect vantage point
Gta 5 Fort Zancudo alarm LMAO
When we heard it, my son and I just looked at each other and got way too much of a kick out of it. Had to put it in the video! 😂

Those fire boats must hold a lot of water.
The larger ones hold more than the smaller ones...
Well, they do carry almost an oceans worth of water with them wherever they go....lol

didnt this facility have a fire a couple of years ago as well?
I think you’re right-I missed seeing it somehow, even though it’s practically out my window!
Why didn't the fire boat pump low water volume foam to minimize contaminated water from running off into the Hudson?
