- Hello everyone! Watch my new video - Grace Kelly Car Crash Reconstruction in the game BeamNG Drive.
Thanks to everyone who liked and subscribed!💕
Grace Patricia Kelly was an American actress who, after starring in several significant films in the early to mid-1950s, became Princess of Monaco by marrying Prince Rainier III in April 1956.
It was shortly after 10 am Monday morning of September 13, 1982 when the car Princess Grace was driving missed a curve and catapulted down a cliff. It is a road that Princess Grace often travelled yet not often drove herself, but that morning she dismissed her chauffeur as there were dresses and boxes in the back seat. With her daughter Princess Stephanie as her passenger, Princess Grace set out on what should have been a relatively short drive in her beloved 11-year-old metallic green Rover 3500.
Some theorise Grace hadn’t lost control of the car, but rather, of her emotions. That summer, mother and daughter had been engaged in an ongoing argument over Stephanie’s plans to marry her then-boyfriend, Paul, son of French film star, Jean-Paul Belmondo. If the argument had become heated that day, it might explain the “erratic driving.” It could even explain why whoever was driving might have confused the brake pedal with the accelerator.
About two miles outside of La Turbie, Grace missed a particularly sharp turn, sending the car over a 120-foot slope.

That Stephanie survived is a miracle.
There are big rumors here in France that Stephanie was behind the wheel at the moment of the crash
Princess Grace: Should've used a driver.
Princess Diana: Should not have used a driver.
A lot of people think The British Secret Service killed Diana, but it was the French underground.
@@ccrider3435 It was actually the French underriver...

Should have used seatbelts but to posh I guess!
what a worthless and not remotely funny post
I live in the mountains of Southwest Virginia. I had a 1963 Buick Skylark with the 215 (3.5L) V-8, and it was no slouch. It was equipped with non-power 4-wheel Drum brakes, and a 2-speed automatic transmission (Buick Dual-Path). When I descended steep mountain roads, I used low gear, and braked sparingly. "Brake failure" is often something as simple as riding the brakes until the friction material overheats and becomes "frictionless". If you don't gear-down for the incline, you are out of luck. Burnt brakes only need about 30 seconds to recover their stopping ability, but a lot can happen in 30 seconds on a steeply declining mountain road with sharp curves. Ride your brakes, and you don't stand much of a chance. I don't doubt that the brakes were "fully functional" hours after the crash, that's not going mean a thing if they were being overheated on the way down. Poor driving habits have killed a lot of people in perfectly functioning automobiles.
Nowadays when you tell people they should gear down, they look at you like you have two heads. Luckily, brakes have been improved on modern cars.
@@waterlevelroute I also own and operate my own auto repair shop. I repair modern automobiles, and most people are surprised to find that the actual brakes, themselves, have changed very little in 50 years. Front disc brakes became standard on nearly every passenger car & pickup in 1975, and about 2/3 of them have added rear disc brakes as well. but they are virtually unchanged in design. What has changed has been the control of them with ABS and Computer Controlled traction systems. I can still hold brakes and gas on a modern car, simulating a downhill run, and they will fade out in 15 seconds, becoming useless. Knowledge of how to use brakes and controlling a vehicle is being forgotten, thanks to all the 'automated' controls. When the controls malfunction, or are applied on low-friction surfaces, most people no longer have the driving skills to maintain control of their vehicles. All they know how to do is push one pedal to go, and the other pedal to 'stop'.
Here is a fact of auto mechanics you need to know; brakes slow down wheel rotation, but your tires stop the car.
FYI, Stephanie survived with only minor injuries. Would have been nice to include that info but then again, you got so many details wrong.
Yeah he always fails to state the outcome not always death
To start with: She drove a green Rover 3500 V8 ... not some boxy US car as shown in this "simulation".
@@phmwu7368 And that she most likely had a stroke and not some tantrum.
@@phmwu7368 It is a simulation...conglomeration of Volvo, Oldsmobile, et al.
@@gbtriumph3216
☑️ You called that one pretty accurately! It does look like a Volvo/Oldsmobile hybrid. Before he mentioned the brand and the age of the car, I was initially guessing that it was a Lincoln, then a Buick. I'm pretty sure he said the "Rover" was 13 years old, and this occured in the early 80s, but his AI car looks like it's from the late 80s or early 90s(in the case of the Lincoln).
From what I read it was determined that she had a stroke just before the accident.
This video is not an accurate depiction of what happened and what caused the accident.
The stroke could very well be linked to mentionned argument - if true.
This is the real site of the accident: 43°43'34.9"N 7°24'10.0"E
Princess Grace was approaching the infamous hairpin called "coude du diable", i.e. "devil's elbow", to the right, not to the left. After hitting the extremely low wall bordering the tricky road, the car fell onto the garden of a house 120-foot (37 m) below. Definitely, not on an underlying road. So, sorry, but your reconstruction is not based on a factual scenario.
That’s exactly right
She was driving a Rover 3.5 , the Spen King designed P6 fitted with the alloy V8 developed from the surpluses Buick design bought in by Rover. These were a compact luxury saloon with excellent road manners refinement and passive safety. Prince Rainier's first comments to the press were that her brakes had failed. Rover's response was to say this was almost impossible and they sent two engineers out on the next flight. The post mortem confirmed that Princess Grace had died at the wheel and the car performed as designed in the subsequent crash.
She was a loss, effortlessly elegant.
Ever wondered which way a ar would go if you turn the wheel left ? It goes left. Right ? it goes right. Press the brake pedal ? The car slows down to a stop. Press the accelerator ? the car accelerates. Hmmmmm.
More than 60 years on, I can confirm that the ar performed as designed in the subsequent rash WITHOUT having to be sent anywhere ... Hmmmmm.
@@james-497Dumb comment.
@@team3383 More than 60 years on ? don't think so.
@@terrystevens5261 You have a car that does otherwise ?
Why does the video show a crappy yank tank that wouldn't have got round the first corner. She was in a Rover and it wasn't the cars fault.
I thought Grace Kelly lost control because she had a mild stroke while driving. She made it to the hospital where she was treated and expected to survive. She died the next day from a second massive stroke.
She did. This video is wrong
This video is TOTALLY inaccurate. What in the world!
She did!
The Rover P6 that she was driving was a great model car, probably one of the best made cars during the demise of British car manufacturing in the 70's
3500 V8
@Micky-french'65 Not sure why he used this Buick, although I wouldn't imagine Rover P6's appear in software like this

There was a lot of rumors about Grace fighting with her daughter among other things when in reality she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage while driving which made her lose control of the car. I believe Stephanie tried to grab the wheel and gain control of the car but couldn't. Grace was actually still alive when they arrived at the wreck but later died at the hospital. Very tragic ending to a beautiful and talented woman.
Hmm, I'm not sure you can prove the hemorrhage happened pre crash

As It Turns Out Grace Suffered A Stroke On The Wheel Her Daughter Tried To Stop The Car But It Was Too Late
I read somewhere that the Rover was taken out into the Med and dumped overboard to keep it from ending up in some sort of ghoulish museum. Makes a good story anyway.
My first thought is that she overheated her brakes. It can happen within a minute or so, even on newer cars if you ride the brakes while descending a mountain. I've experienced it twice in economy cars from the early 2010's while descending mountains. Also, on numerous off-road vehicles.
The car was equipped with very early, possible first generation on all four wheels. When disc brakes overheat, there's no friction whatsoever to stop the car. You'll experience brake fade until there's no stopping power whatsoever because they're too hot.
It helps to descend mountains by putting the car in a low gear, the engine can take the revs, it's called "engine braking", doing so will limit your speed as well as keeping your brakes cool and ready to be used around switchbacks.
I've also experienced this on mountain trails. It's a good thing I had a 4X4. I used 4 Low for braking. It was scary.
I agree that this is a very likely possibility. I own a repair shop in the Appalachian mountains in VA. More than one of my customers has experienced the same on some of the local mountain roads, complaining of total brake loss. Upon arriving at the shop, however, the brakes would perform normally. Close examination of the brake linings would show glazing & discoloration of the friction pad material, and sometimes a burnt odor. Riding brakes, even 4-wheel disc, down a mountain descent will overheat and render them useless. The harder you apply them, the more they fade, until they are completely frictionless. A few brief applications combined with downshifting, even an automatic transmission, can give brakes time to cool. Of course engineers found the brakes on her car completely functional, especially hours after they had cooled off post-crash. I also have witnessed that 25 to 30% of women drivers use one foot on the gas and one foot on the brake simultaneously, even with manual transmissions. And if you push on both at the same time, gas ALWAYS wins, fading out all the brakes in about 30 seconds. Bad driving habits can kill people in new cars that have everything operating perfectly. I owned a 1963 Buick Skylark with the 225 (3.5L) V-8 and a 2-speed automatic (Dual-Path) transmission. It was no slouch and could bury the speedometer.
Her daughter reminds me of one of those crash test dummies

At least the color was right. ;-)

Looked a bit like a K car in some sections.
A K car / Lincoln with Volvo front and Olds 98 rear. A mid 80s puzzle car!
That's a New Yorker Oldsmobile, lol.
That’s not the corner where she crashed; she would have been driving rightwards around the hairpin turn. She also didn’t land on a road, but in someone’s garden.
How could ANYONE survive that?
Anything is possible
@@j.i.r608 Time travel isn't possible
What a beauty she was.
How the daughter survived this was a x3 miracle.
I suppose guard rails were not invented yet?
Bet this corner has a guard rail now.
It had like a rock barrier she drove though. Though its unlikely a guard rail would have been able to stop her car at the speed it was going.
Lmao that car looks like the Dodge Spirit 😁
Wikipedia quote “Grace suffered a mild cerebral hemorrhage while driving……” was the cause of the accident.
That'll do it.
Wikipedia never lies too. ;)
That car looks more like an Oldsmobile from the late 80s
No wonder she crashed! she was driving with half severed hands and moonlighting as crash test dummy😜
From the inside the crash is very scary 😮
I was thinking the same thing can't imagine what they must went through
So she was driving a vehicle that had the front end of a 1989 Dodge Dynasty and the rear of a 1989 Lincoln Town Car? In 1982? 🤣
Haha I when I saw the car I said it looks like a Chrysler Reliant K and a Ford Crown Victoria had a love child or something.
very underrated channel for the work yopu put into youre videos 😁
These simulations are very good; I subscribed. Having more information on the outcome would be nice, but that's all easy to obtain.
I drove a 1960 Jaguar MK2 in the late 80's, but my best friend drove a 1967 Rover 2000 TC. Rover made a good car to British standards. You just have to keep oil in it, and understand SU carburetors.
Royals don’t need seatbelts obviously like us simple mortals. Grace and Di, just two examples.
