How i would handle mega pokemon coming into RBY is to take whichever special stat it had in RBY, modify it according to the mega's stat buffs, and use that new stat. For example, if RBY charizard has 85 special, RBY mega charizard y would have 115 special because y gets +30 base spdef and the 85 special carried over into its spdef in gens 2 and onward. Tl;dr most megas would probably be broken lol Edit: originally the example used zard's new 109 spatk as a base but it doesn't have that in rby so fixed that. Oops
I think it's fair to just use the higher stat, because that's the same amount of logic that game freak used when splitting the stat in gen 2. It was essentially completely arbitrary.

@@R.P.Genocraft jokes aside, I really think Skarmory is only as good as it is not only because of the utility it possesses, but also Ttar enabling it to leverage passive damage unlike any Mon in the tier. The immunity to TSS along with perfect synergy with blissey makes it so formidable even if it’s only getting one spike in the game. Magneton being as relevant as it is just to get rid of skarm speaks volumes to its influence in the tier. I believe that skarm is the best Mon in the tier when sand is up, but sand doesn’t exist without Ttar, and no mon can beat the Swiss Army knife utility of ttar.
I am somewhat surprised you didn't bring up the Primals. While they aren't technically Megas, they kinda still are considering the changes to stats and typing for Gordan's case. Beyond that, this was a very enjoyable thought experiment you underwent!

A cool thing about megamence is that it could drop a foe's attack twice with intimidate. Going mega should reactivate the ability if following the same rules as mega-ttar and mega-obama.
A cool point for Mega Glalie is that it would speed tie Zapdos and be the fastest reliable ice type in the tier I think, which would help it a lot offensively. Still frail but certainly usable.
Annihilape in Gen 1 would be interesting. Its movepool would still be garbage, and assuming it inherits a special of 50 it’d still die to all the Psychics. But it would match up well very well into Tauros, Snorlax and Chansey.
Gen three mega aero would be super good though since it has earthquake and rockslide and you don’t have the downside of having a choice band which can back fire or force you to switch
this kinda touches on something i’d love to see but i know will never happen. id be curious what would happen if we had a for example: “gen 1 in gen 9” meta where it’s gen 9 mechanics, items, stats, etc, but you’re limited to just gen 1 mons. the closest we have to that is BDSP (gen 4 in gen 8) and it’s surprising what kept up and what didn’t. id like to see that with all gens.

I honestly don't known if Mega Mewtwo Y would be that broken (Ubers standart ofc). Yeah you have that comically powerfull psychic types, but you have to commit your Mega Slot and your Mewtwo slot, which isn't nice. Why bother when you could just run Mega Alakazam who does mostly the same and also lets you run Mewtwo as back up. Mind you it's still very powerfull, but it feels more high risk high reward
It's not really that powerful because mewtwo is already hitting the stat cap. Mega alakazam would definitely be better because it can waste more PP with recover and light screen shenanigans.
I also thought about this before, not about Megas sepcifically, but more so about Steel, Dark or Fairy type Pokémon in Gen 1. Some of them like Xerneas would probably be Normal or Psychic type, in which case it would still be amazing, though its movepool would be lacking when compared to something like Mewtwo (this becomes a very common inconveniece for these hypothetical Pokémon). Its Gen 6 level up learnset would be reduced to just Take Down, Light Screen and Aurora Beam when "converted" to Gen 1. Fortunately, TMs could remedy this: Toxic, Hyper Beam, Thunderbolt, Thunder, Psychic, Double Team, Reflect, Rest, Flash, Thunder Wave, Rock Slide, Substitute and Cut are available as TM moves in both Gens 1 and 6. In Gen 7 it gets nothing new. In Gen 8 it gets access to Tackle, Swift and Body Slam, so that's something to consider. So if it were to be converted into either a Normal or Psychic type, it could definitely work thanks to TMs and its amazing base 131 in both attacks (would this mean it has a 131 base special?)
Another interesting idea for a video that I just thought of would be how in earlier gens soe pokemon couldn't use certain moves together because of compatibility issues like how Skarm can't use Whirlwind and Drill Peck in ADV and how it affects these pokemon and the metagame in general.

Pokemon let’s go was so perfect in this fact. Sure we missed out on some megas due to gen one only but hey. For what it was. The megas shined on every team and the item slot wasn’t used so you could pick your mega based on the game if you bring multiple mega mons. And if you like a nightmare match, some hackers would show up with full teams of mega mons due to some glitch no one ever covered . These mons could also mega mega. Like a char y would mega into char x or the mewtwo could switch. Was a nightmare fighting those ppl but man if you showed up with a team that won, mmmm those memories were those of gold.
GSC with megas is definitely the most interesting of these, IMO. it's a huge boost to offensive power but the cost of no lefty's in that particular meta feels really high compared to others.
I can't WAIT to do this for Paradox forms specifically. They are all very unique from their base forms so it would be very fun to see how they would adapt to the changes across Gens. Iron Valiant can also be discussed in 2 gens! What fun!
"What if modern abilities were in ADV?" would be really fun. Some standouts for me are Breloom, Clef, and Nidoking. Scizor is still awful due to moveppol unfortunately, but sheef force nidoking would be incredible with boosted sludge bomb on physical sets or boosted boltbeam on a special set.

For special, you should have used this for computation, average the current def spe and atk spe, then substract the mega's stats to the normal mons one, and make up for the difference For Slowbro 95 - 95 75 - 75 180 - 110 X - 80 30 - 30 This gives us 70 increase, so you could increase Slowbro's base special by 30 (15 if you consider it as 2 different stats)
i think calculating the special stat should be done by applying the increase of spatk 'n' spdef to the base mon's special stat. so, for example, slowbro would get +30 special for a total of 110 and kanghaskan would get +40 (+20 +20) for a total of 80. that way that +100 bst is always preserved.
I have to disagree with you about Mega Mewtwo Y. It can't hit 999 in a single turn (only 972, which is very high, but still requires another turn of amnesia). The higher speed stat is nice, but it also means that it has a higher chance to crit and ignore amnesia boosts, which is a double-edged sword. So it's not much benefit comapred to the downside of using your mega slot.
When porting megas to gen 1 it seems to me like looking at how the stat changed in the transition to Gen 2 is the way to go. Did its original special become SPATK or SPDEF?

Why did mega Gyarados get to be pure water but mega altaria stayed flying type?

When porting megas to gen 1 it seems to me like looking at how the stat changed in the transition to Gen 2 is the way to go. Did its original special become SPATK or SPDEF?

I think the way showdown implements it, the oldest versions of the mechanics are used whenever you try to put them into a gen they don't exist in yet. This includes mega speed mechanics. Source: playing RoA roomtours

That's too much of a "what if" imho. Cause these theories are always seen in the view that there was a progress, cause you assume that something that got introduced later in the franchise has always existed but not revealed, hence you can start theorycrafting.

Why not make Mega Altaria a pure dragon? Just to help give it a niche.
Theorymon: what if Pokemon that gained Spikes in later gens had them in earlier gens? This could include GSC Skarmory, Heracross, Mew, DPP/BW Gastrodon, Garchomp, Gliscor, and even ORAS and SM with a number of Pokemon.
