A lot of people forget that onilink isnt as experienced in decorating as pretty much everyone that worked on acheron as well as working with an original theme. Deco being unpolished isnt that much of an issue to me as it still looks pretty good.

Keep in mind Tidal Wave is a 3 minute long level with 4x speed for a large portion of the level, that 258k object count seems daunting and titanic but if you do the math, it actually has a lower object density than a lot of levels like Limbo, KOCMOC, Slaughterhouse, Firework, Avernus just to name a few top demons.
I think Acheron is a better top 1 but I like Tidal Wave as a level more and Acheron has been top 1 for a year at this point so a change is very needed, especially since TW is long and not a hell level

When I played through tidal wave in practice, it was the only level in the top 10 that felt genuinely fun to play. Gonna try and pour attempts into it to see if beating it is realistic for me
for me the main weakness of tidal wave is its lack of variety in its sections, if that makes sense. due to it having long stretches where it uses the exact same background and deco style, it only really feels like it has 3 or 4 distinct sections of the level, and that repetition is made a LOT worse due to it being much longer than the average level

I love tidal wave for having a more unique theme but i think even more out there themes would be very fun for top levels. Like celeste where some of the hardest levels themes include "voting in a presidential election", "sucked into a pinball machine" an or "super calm level with no spikes thats still extremely difficult"

1:30 something i dont see many people mention is that basically every level has either a black bg, or black platforms. a huge chunk of tw has neither, so i commend its ballsy-ness. its way easier to create deco while just using black and glow
Acheron was pretty good, it fits the top1 with it's decoration and aesthetic, solid balancing.
But tidal wave is also good, potentially more fun and unique, it's refreshing to have a top1 like this, the decoration isn't perfect but it has a great charm to it.
I guess it depends on which one you like more, I find tidal wave to be better.
I really can't pick between the songs, both are phenomenal.
Honestly, Tidal Wave feels more Geometry Dash than other Geometry Dash levels and I don't know why
I used to be one of the people who didn't like the tidal wave deco, but my opinion changed when it got released. I bot levels for fun and when I actually played the level the deco was pretty decent. Maybe the high detail of the objects made RUclips's bitrate have a tantrum, as such pixelating the block design making it seem lower quality, but it was a lot better when I played it. I do agree it had terrible optimization tho; use the LDM if you have a low-end device.
I literally don’t get why people think the tidal wave deco is too simple. Like bro have you seen the block designs??? I also like how OniLink decided to simplify a few details in order to lower object count while making sure it isn’t that obvious during gameplay. The song is genuinely pretty good and its finally a non hell themed top one. Acheron is a great level don’t get me wrong, but I think tidal wave is such a breath of fresh air from hell themed top 1s.

Tidal Wave automatically has my respect just because it's a beach themed top 1. Every single top 1 is either not themed, or hell themed. Except The Golden. Tidal Wave took a theme that would usually be used in a 4 star and pulled it off in a top 1. Cool as hell.

acheron looks cool and (as a gd boomer who was around for the 1.9 revolution) I vibe with the deco a lot, although the second half of acheron really falls off deco-wise tbh
tidal wave also looks cool and I think the lack of detailed deco in like 3 transition sections is a non-issue, considering the entire other 3 minutes of the level look fine albeit not at the insanely high level of polish that most other recent list levels have
in conclusion tidal wave haters are cringe, acheron haters are cringe, and people should just enjoy levels tbh tbh

honestly I played tidal wave and I really love doing waves because it flows so good and it’s just especially with the 4 speed it creates a good challenge and with the decoration it’s very enjoyable and Acheron is really fun to play aswell because of its hard timings and also very good song :) (especially the mashup hehe) but I gotta say they are both good to me in both ways so they are both good top 1s

I dont even know how you can “hate” a top 1. I mean none of us can really play top 1s so all thats left is deco and how it flows which i think we can all agree that we dont barf seeing any top 1 decos and well obviously all top 1s seem to flow well so like how exactly are people “hating” top 1s???
I hate Tidal wave like top 1 and don't like cuz of bad deco. If Tidal wave was top 10-15 I will ok with that, but top 1? Why?

Tidal Wave is a bit sloppy but it also has that amateur charm that most demon list levels do not nowadays. It is also a prime candidate for a remake in the future, a trend that is pretty popular
I was inside Walmart when I heard the news. I broke down crying hysterically, a crowd quickly formed around me trying to make sense of the situation. Luckily a police officer was on the scene and took control of the situation. He finally had asked what was wrong. I looked up at him with tears in my eyes and said. “Wavix said Acheron’s song is better than Tidal Waves.” Before I finish my sentence the officer started breaking down crying as well. He’s now in psych ward from the trauma of what I said. Thank you Wavix.

I think both levels are very good :) acheron is just overall super clean, and the gameplay looks pretty good even though I can't play it. Tidal waves transitions suck but everything is super detailed, the theme is really cool and unique and the gameplay also looks great

What I will say is that while I think both levels are great, the second half of it(after it becomes more “sunny”) the decoration falls off for a bit. It just looks, off to me. When it goes to the sunset section though, it looks good(though the background is too static). Both good levels, but Acheron takes it for me.
i love how everyone was begging for a non hell themed top 1, and as soon as we get one everyone starts crying about how bad it looks
People forget that firework isn't a hell themed level and was technically top 1 (Because slaughterhouse was hack-verified, making firework the hardest level at the time) and it also had one of the most unique concepts.
If I gotta be honest, Acheron is just kinda boring, like the first time I saw it it was cool and all but it became so boring to watch after like 3 or 4 times. Its "theming" is just edgy which we've seen a trillion times, I don't personally like Thermodynamix that much I just think it's fine, the gameplay is agonizing according to pretty much everyone who's played it aside from Zoink and Vertop and it being restricted to 1.9 deco does not play in its favor imo, idk why that should be a factor, I mean it could've been better had it used a more modern deco style, the restriction is a choice. Tidal Wave is a solo level and a first project so right off the bat you can't expect something as polished as a megacollab involving experienced creators, but even then Tidal Wave manages to execute the theming it was aiming for really well, it has really good progression and it manages to stay somewhat consistent in decoration throughout 3 entire minutes, the gameplay is very fun according to every playtester, Onilink and Zoink, all of these factors may not be absolute perfection, but considering the fact that it's a first project, Onilink nailed it, and I can't wait to see what his other projects will look like

I do think tidal wave is cool but it would probably be unfun due to its length similarly to zodiac. A lot of people have good things ti say about zodiac but most people dont realize that 90% of victors hate it due to the length and balancing lmao

I love the song way more than Acherons and the decoration is just really nice to me, the colors are amazing and they go really well together, especially the last section of Tidal wave. I don’t want people tryna tell me different I love tidal wave way more than Acheron, it’s my opinion and if you didn’t wanna hear it, so be it 🤷.

I was making a demon level called "Flares" its discontinued though (and I'm a beginner creator so do not have crazy building skills but who cares I've been building for around 2 months) But it did have Thermodynamix as its soundtrack and I also think Thermodynamix is a CRAZY GOOD soundtrack.
imo tidal wave seems more enjoyable to play than acheron because at least every attempt you're getting somewhere, meanwhile acheron is just a gauntlet of frame perfects and fixed hitboxes, however idk, might be more annoying when going for 100% because it's just long, but doing runs could really work

I find Acheron to be more War/military themed level than a hell theme. Yes I do agree with Acheron looks like Tartarus, but I just want to say, the first part has the word "grenade" in it. NOT hidden under/on top the level (unlike the three guns) you can see it and regular gameplay. Look up any show case you'll see the word Grenade.

I suggest you swap "who has a better song" for "who has a better music sync". This way people won't blame you for your music taste/bias/preferences. No one will be able to say "how can you not like that song" or vice versa. But, if you take sync, that is more "general" let's say. What I mean is: If a song is good is always a matter of personal taste, but sync cannot be always personal taste, as there are plenty of levels who just don't have sync or they suck at syncing the gameplay or the sync is way too "synced" to the point where you click at any note or sound in the song.
Tldr: Sync is better to judge as people won't blame you for musical taste :)
I think that onilink should keep this version of Tidal Wave as a LDM and he should work to revamp it.......
2023 has been a HUGE year for GD. Edge of Destiny, KOCMOC, Centipede (pls make video about it), Vehemence (still waiting for the video about it its the best top 1 also terraria byass I dont care), MINUSdry (yes its good shut up), Codependence, Silent Acropolis, APT, futurilly Barracuda (gl on the verification wavix), Flamewall (pls make video about it), and in some way the SpaceUK situation, and many more. Tidal Wave is just one more banger. My only problem is that, even do I love it, for me Acheron fits better as a top 1. Im early on this community, and joined basically last December, with Tidal Wave being the first ever top 1 verification that I keep up with. Overall, Tidal Wave is a much better level, even more considering its a solo level (Kyouki better tho), but for me Acheron fits better as a top 1.
Acheron is better in my opinion but i like tidal wave, its solid and while it may not fit the top 1 spot alot, the gameplay is cool and deco is good, but i think its heavily unoptimized for how it looks
Also thermodynamix song really goes hard tbh, but I would like in a different style of level a little more :)
honestly, my issue with tidal waves deco is not that it's overly simple, quite literally the opposite, a lot of it's block deco looks like some old shitty core style level and the air decoration in a lot of parts is sometimes none existent and nearly always lacking or patchy, the spike design is so garbage, it stands out a ton and not in a good way, it's very, very overdecorated in most parts and sometimes the spike decoration affects the gameplay as well, but the worst for me personally is the glow usage, it is actually horrible and sometimes it's alright like in some of the blocks but on the spikes it is way too bright, and sometimes the colors just feel off, i get that the theme is "unique" although i don't really care for it, but it still uses decoration techniques that are used in tons of levels but it does them badly, optimization is horrible as well but i wont even touch on that, i'm not saying this is surprising tho, onilink is a pretty inexperienced creator and i do think it's better than a lot of the top levels (especially all the nerfed impossible levels i hate them so much) but for me acheron definitely wins, theming only can carry a level so much, i think the feeling a level gives off is way more important than people think, i do think that tidal wave is more original but not "that" original tbh, if they used more interesting decoration techniques or effects than it would work out better, but most importantly if they fix the glow it could easily be considerably better imo

only one part in the level has basically any sort of strong foreground and the rest are completely lacking any sort of foreground
the background spike pillars that are throughout the level look weird, this might be improved by making them brighter or honestly just removing them tho sometimes it looks good

structuring in general is pretty bad but i think it's possible to make any structure look good it just takes creativity, i don't think they managed to pull off the structures in this level very well and it stays the same throughout the level
i really like "some" of the block designs especially the wavey looking ones at the drop and the variations in them
the backgrounds are neat (tho i think could be improved) and they add a good backdrop to the level tho only in some parts
the colors in the block design are very good for most of the level tho sometimes it looks out of place (like the wave are 3:06 because they feel disconnected)
i know this seems like a heated post about why i hate this level so much but not really, in general i like tidal wave as a level far more than most top 10's, but i still think it's not that original and there aren't very many hard levels that really try to do that, the idea around tidal wave was "ocean level" and that's kinda it

i like acheron better, i think tidal wave is way to messy, i only like the first wave part, everything else is way too empty, its pretty closed in but then you look above of the gameplay and there's nothing, not a single object above the structures, onilink could have put at least some sorta seaweed to make it less empty, but it just seems unfinished maybe because the creator wanted it to come out before 2.2

Idk if tidal wave even deserved a point for decoration. What you used to excuse giving a point for decoration you also used in giving tidal wave a point for theming. If you're going to have theming then don't give a point for deco. Especially when many players consider theming as part of deco. And the problems with Tidal Wave's deco extends further than the polish. The main thing that makes Tidal Wave's deco bad is the seizure inducing colour combinations.

My only issue with tidal wave is that it is just a copy/pasted wave challenge with no regard in terms of optimization, transitions, cleaning, and having way too much AND not enough going on at the same time. Acheron is an ass level, ill give you that. But I'd rather watch Acheron because even though it's tartarus 2.0, it's short and accomplishes what it was trying to accomplish. Tidal Wave is a sloppy, 3 minute mess that makes me cringe both from the repetitive deco and the superbuffed gp (...zoink). As for theming, it's a cool idea. A day at the beach that progresses into the sunset, which is great, and original, but WHY WOULD IT NEED TO BE TOP 1 (...zoink AGAIN)?? I just don't want a level that was made by a new creator that watched a few deco tutorials as the face of Geometry Dash and it's standards.
