Thank you for this video. I haven’t been to Sekiya’s since the 1980s. I recently saw this video and gave them a try last night. My Won Ton Min with Vegetables and BBQ Stick was wonderful. My family also liked the Tonkatsu and Teri-Cheeseburger. My wife could also get her favorite Chocolate Coke which is hard to come by nowadays. Definitely will go back more regularly.

Jennifer Ha, what a perfectly good reason to come visit our islands. We still have some old mom and pop saimin stands around, but it seems like the ramen shops are taking over the world. Eating at a old time saimin stand brings back memories of what we call "small kid time". If you ever come to Oahu, you have to eat at one of the old saimin stands to get a true feeling of what it was like back in the day.

great choice of local dishes from HI.. but next time you have a craving for those same dishes, and have the time to drive around..
heres the upgraded list for those same dishes.
not promoting restaurants or anything.. just giving you the real inside scoops.. lol.. even alot of local people here dont know.
..guess you could call some of these places the real secret spots.. i pretty much know all of the best spots for whatever local HI dish desired.. comment n ill let you know.
saimin - may be hard to believe but zippys zip min or won ton min is one of the top saimin in HI.. as for ramen.. theres alot of authentic / semi.. lol ..around the island.
-FRIED NOODLES / SAIMIN hawaiian style..
SATOS in WAIPAHU.. one of the best.. or LEEWARD DRIVE INN down the road.
..also HOUSE of DRAGON in PEARL CITY..
dry gun lo mien but made HI style with egg, char siu, green onion etc.
teri burger - just right up the road from sekiyas ..they been around for a while.. W and M BBQ burger
..or the teri burger @ NEWTOWN GOLF DRIVING RANGE ..really good also.
as for the beef n chicken sticks.. i would suggest goin to JIN JOO WAIMALU.. rt down the road from the driving range.. just get the KALBI PLATE.. sorry no sticks.. but you will thank me when you try it.. I would say even better than those expensive korean bbq spots in town.. or even LA K-town
...these spots should fit right in with "DINING ON A DIME" anyone in town.. try these spots.. i have alot more..
    your welcome ! )
