This one isn't making a lot of arguments for choosing it over something like the Pentax-F 70-210 you reviewed! Huge and unwieldy for the privilege of a really bad 2.8 performance.
Im shocked how it differs from the next model after this one. I’ve had two copies and optically they had been some of the best lenses I’ve ever used. I actually got rid of them in the end as they had been to sharp for video work. The mark 4 with two rings I didn’t get along with. It was closer to the results from your review. A lot of chromatic aberration wide open and an ugly bokeh
@@MarcoAries I have seen opinions that the quality control wasn’t great and people ended up sending new expensive lenses to be recalibrated. Tbh from all the nikkor lenses I’ve tested I didn’t get along with the mk4 of this and two copies of 28-105 3.5-4.5 that could not be focus to infinity. Other than some age related issues they have been some of favourite vintage lenses.
tyvm!

Yes, I agree!

Zooms are always tricky and Nikkors have been a constant 50/50 for me: either great or subpar 🤷🏼♂️

@@LiveMyJourneyTom how do you identity version 4?
@@heroaomedia it’s very similar to this but it lacks that top mf/af ring.
Would you recommend for shooting this lens only MF on a Sony body?
That's what I did and what the owner does. If you like the results you can get, it is perfectly doable.
It is deffinately an ugly looking lens. Clearly built to function and not winning any awards for form.
I kind of stopped caring how a lens looks, handling is more important to me 🤷🏼♂️
