That's interesting, because this method actually causes a chemical reaction that removes the sulphur from the silver sulphide tarnish. Gold isn't reactive and doesn't tarnish.
I now use a ultrasound cleaner for my gold,my brother has a silver bracelet thts tarnished i tried to clean it but didnt really work,do you have any suggestions on how to clean the silver bracelet?.@KenLord
@@reo-julie8865 ultrasound gets the dirt off ... but silver tarnish is from a chemical reaction, silver sulphide bonded to the surface. You can either polish it off, which takes away some silver, or you can try to reverse the chemical reaction. That's what is happening in the glass with boiling water, aluminum foil, baking soda, and vinegar. If its important or valuable jewelry, get a jeweller to clean it. Or use a silver polish. If its junky jewelry that doesnt matter, try the chemical reaction.
You'll have to Google it. But it has to do with converting the silver sulphide tarnish back into silver metal. The Aluminum picks up the Sulphur. The baking soda, vinegar, and salt facilitate the transfer.
Yes, but dont forget the salt too. it reverses the chemical reaction where Sulphur reacts with the silver making the tarnish. Pulls the sulphur back out. But don't expect the surface to got back to its original quality.
thanks, i'm no chemist, but silver tarnish is silver sulphide. Aluminum is more reactive, so it provides a destination for the sulphur when its released from the silver.
@@Monk-eee if everyone did, the video wouldn't be as interesting :). They aren't expensive, and they're pretty handy, especially if you wear glasses. They clean them up nice.
Metal detectors don't work based on the metal being magnetic. The detector creates an electromagnetic field that induces eddy currents in the metal target, which create their own electromagnetic fields which are picked up by the detector. Gold and copper aren't magnetic either, but are also easily detected.
@@maryleung1425 this one may only be 10's of years old ... But spinner rings have been around for centuries. The earliest examples come from ancient Egypt. :)
Wow, so you've never heard of the hobby of metal detecting? What do you expect old silver jewelry to look like after digging it from the sea at low tide? Freaking idiot.
Bro was wearing that since the start of the stone age
For real 😂
925 is the marking to mean it’s silver, not a year
It’s another of these fake videos

Awesome cleaning video! You make it look easy! I just spent all of Saturday night cleaning 5-6 items we’ve been collecting and finding !
The ring will teleport you to Elden Ring world 😂
From my experience, that ring would be circa 1995.
White was probably calcium stuff from the ocean, incredible how much the levels need to be. I started keeping a reef tank few months back
WOW! That’s amazing!! Great find. Love love love the video!!
I also used Colgate toothpaste. You will be surprised how fast it works.
Do it really work with toothpaste what's the directions.

It will scratch the crap out of your silver though.
Good score.... being that tarnished it must have been lost quite some time ago.
Can you do this to 24k gold plated sterling silver that oxidized without removing the gold plated layer?
Hard to say, I wasn't concerned with damaging this ring. It might be risky. If the ring is important to you, take it to a jeweller for cleaning.
Works brilliant for gold too,I always clean my gold this way!!

Why the aluminium foil, baking soda and salt? Someone pls explain the chemistry behind it.
You'll have to Google it. But it has to do with converting the silver sulphide tarnish back into silver metal. The Aluminum picks up the Sulphur. The baking soda, vinegar, and salt facilitate the transfer.
When using baking soda and hot water you also need to like the bowl with aluminum foil right?
That's right, boiling water, aluminum foil, baking soda, vinegar, and a bit of salt. I'd suggest googling instructions for this, for the amounts etc.
So this is what Fromsoft meant by “tarnished” and “Elden Ring”.
It might not have been that old. Being in the ocean may tarnish it very well. Probably could get that way within 5-10 years just as much.
Yup, that's true, although this probably had the thickest tarnish I've seen in 9 years of hunting.
Might of said Mexico .925, Taxco silver is a common stamp on Vintage Mexican Silver
Is it true Boiling water in a bowl with aluminum foil inside and baking soda actually removes tarnish on silver

I've seen that if you use boiling hot water in this mix it will speed up the process
Yes, thanks for the tip, I usually pop the water in the microwave, but it doesn't stay hot very long. Maybe some time in an oven would do it.
Baking soda, water and foil is the only thing u need.
Awesome 😎 🎉
don't get what the foil does but nice job :)

Salt? Only used foil-hot water-baking soda. Usually works!
interesting, I've done it on other pieces, accidentally forgetting the salt and it's failed.
I mean it came out great but it's not like everyone has an ultra sonic cleaning device at home 😅

Spinners where not around 40 years ago. Mid to late 90's is more like it.
How you found it if silver is not magnetic

I need this cleaner. I mistakenly put my silver jewelry to hang in my bathroom. I didn’t’ know lol
Brushing with toothpaste will work on slightly darkened jwellery
You can get a 6 dollar bottle of tarn-x and it will look brand new. The stuff is very strong so dont soak for more than a minute or two.

Baking soda and water I think
