One thing I like about these guys, is that they don’t try to act all gangster, make out that they had a hard upbringing or even say they hate their parents (Tahiti literally shouted out his dad) The majority of them were just bored & didn’t want to fall into a regular, mundane life of being an adult.
I also really enjoy their music, it’s really good music to work out to!

Yeah bro dressing cringe like transwomen and wasting your life on drugs while making meaningless music is so fire. It really is living proof that anyone can become a cringe degenerate and pretend to be black and hiphop because they have no original or independent thought of their own. I'm hella hella inspired too, like HELLA x2. It's really hard to follow the trends of pop culture and throw your life away, but it's amazing how these guys did it.

"I just hope we can get a house and all live together.." "I hope we all stay friends, stay together..." "Hopefully we make it so we can all be ballin..." etc. So jealous of what they got together!

I was reading an article about this group and while their music isn't my taste of genre, I came away impressed after watching this and one of their videos. They are talented, artistic and pursuing their passion.... doing it their way. And I'd party with these peeps anyday. Gotta wish em nothing but the best. As an outsider to this, I gotta say I appreciate it! No matter whether you're into a certain type of music, it's important to still experience it sometimes and you'll find new perspectives while supporting artists who are pursuing a passion and delivering quality material.

I grew up around Atlanta, the city that birth trap music hip hop pioneers and culture icons, so I'm intrigued by what these kids are creating in Japan. It's interesting seeing all the different influences of Black American hip hop music, Black English (aka. "AAVE"), and Black American fashion in this underground culture of Japan. I had no clue it was this popular out there. I definitely got to check out this scene when I visit Japan one day.

Hip hop is just too big atp. But if you look at what all the kids who would’ve been punks or something 20 years ago are listening to it’s all influenced by the people who really pushed the sound in the 2010s. Like chief keef, yung lean, future, lil peep x and all the other SoundCloud kids. Also edm and hyper pop it’s all a mashup. Traditional hip hop or gangster rap will always have a spot in the US and other places but now those sounds are incorporated into more artistic avenues. It’s just the way culture works same w blues and r&b.

Cultural Exchange between US and Japan has been huge in the underground electronic scene for the past 10 years or so. The story of Vaporwave is a wild one. Invented in the West, then popularized in anime circles which mixed the genre with old Japanese music samples, which then led to the revitalization of City Pop in Japan. See also what happened to Future Bass and Nu Funk, which started with acts like Flume in the West and now has a very cutesy anime aesthetic because Japanese producers got a hold on it. Now it's an extremely popular subgenre of music, being used in things like Sonic Mania. The rate of East-West cultural exchange is crazy r n thanks to online music platforms.

There was amazing cinematography in this video and its use for this hyper pop subject was a great one.
I think it always interesting seeing how different slang words and lingo from then”west” or US and rap, permeate other cultures.
Also interesting to see the different subcultures that emerge from young people in Japan, and they all seemingly have similar values in that they defy the status quo and collectivist ideal of Japan. This hyper pop, harujuku culture, and probably many others as well.
It’s aesthetically pleasing to see these colors pop, and it works because they live in the city, so the aesthetic is very coherent and a beautiful thing to see.
    Thank you for this.

I often feel confined with my creativity and expression of self, like people see me as a serious person who studies and gets good grades so the crowd of people who are considered "different" "ragers" "weird", etc... often don't think they can be friends with me. And although I have friends I really like, they're completely different than me in like style and shit like that. I have friends who like anime and k-pop and shit, but the type and what they like within them are completely different than me so I feel a bit excluded no matter where I am. When I find people like Starkids online, I feel accepted. Like there are people who are like me that just want to fuck around, express themselves, and that are really into music, fashion, and just being. What they said talking about the crowd of people that go to their concerts I can completely relate to because when I'm with my friends or people I can't be 100% me, listening to Starkids and finding spaces of people that like the same shit as me honestly helps me so much. I feel like I'am the most me when I have my headphones on listening to different types of music and pursuing creative things like photography and art, so when I see groups like Starkids doing exactly that, it really makes me happy and accepted. Thank you Daze for doing a video on Starkids.

@@blackrpatz holy fuck buddy wrote a whole paragraph once again completely missing my point.
YOU DONT NEED TO PROVE TO ME THAT BLACK PEOPLE PIONEERED THINGS
This isn't a critical race theory class, I know that they did PIONEER things, and I'm all for celebrating that, but once again you are COMPLETELY missing my entire point and just want to argue something I'm not even talking about or has no relation to the question.
I am saying that Hip hop influenced them yes. But saying black culture influenced them as well would be like if I said, italian culture influenced white people food, yeah no fucken shit, but you don't need to put that there, they are influenced in some way by black people, but that's not the fkn point, you just would like for it to be the point.
I can tell you get along "perfectly" with friends and family by the way you type and act like youre but this "evidence" that has fuck all to do with the arguement

Just a nod to those in comments talking about cultural exchange for the past ten years. Sorry but shits been going on for decades. Originally one way from US + UK to Japan, then later both ways. These guys are just the latest in a long line of Japanese artists. See Mighty Crown + likes of KOWICHI, AKLO, Yokohama, Osaka scenes. More refs see Miles of original Massive Attack was in Japan + New York in the 80s. Soul: Light of the World vs Yasuko Agawa. But it all started for Japan way back with Jazz. This is just evolution. Other refs check Dex Thomas aka Dex Digital now of VICE, 2000s. Fashion now Reggie Casual.

I'm 36 never been to Japan and slowly teaching myself japanese I have always loved the culture but I will probably never get the chance to go because I'm at the lowest part of my life I'm like one step away from homeless on the streets but I love music and making music and studying different things all things. But teaching myself japanese has been a hurdle I been trying to jump for years even if I never really get to use it I believe I was Japanese in a past life.
