I grew up eating a lot of Thousand Island dressing. This recipe is definitely worth trying! Definitely more exciting😄 and delicious sounding. Thank you for these recipes! I've been making my own Russian for about 20 years after I found the recipe in an 1919 cookbook. 💞

Very cool! Both dressings seem to vary wildly from restaurant to restaurant, and none of the restaurant varieties resembles what comes in a bottle.
On the other hand, I grew up with my mother’s homemade Thousand Island dressing: equal parts ketchup and mayonnaise with a couple of spoonfuls of chopped pickle. That’s it. I wasn’t a fan and grew up thinking I disliked Thousand Island dressing. I’m glad I discovered real dressings. Now I want to make them myself! I’ll use chili sauce for sure, although it’ll be Heinz Chili Sauce, which I LOVE!

I grew up thinking I disliked mayonnaise because we bought miracle whip but called it mayonnaise.

@@SelfServingSkillet ugh, yes, my dad preferred Miracle Whip as well, so it was the only "mayonnaise" we ever had. I hated it! Still do.

I like your quality control cat. When I was director of a local animal shelter, we used our house cat for things like that.
To see if a dog liked cats we would allow our house cat to walk by and do a CAT scan. ❤️

rumor has it, on a hot day in the early 1900's, like 1910. a chef had his dressing ruined from humidity so he improvised with what he had...and...WHAM! yep. since the restaurant was near 1000 islands he named it as such. heard that from my grgandma & my old aunt..hey, what do i know, they mighta been there

big spoon/little spoon-related fun fact: in japanese, the words for teaspoon and tablespoon are 小さじ (kosaji) and 大さじ (oosaji), which mean little spoon and big spoon

I'm gonna have to try that Russian dressing, I've never actually heard of it but thousnad island was my childhood fav that was for some reason abandoned. A spicy verion could definitely get me back into it though. Also wow, I really want to know how strong that Russian man is now 😆

Russian and French dressing get confused down here in the southeastern part of the 🇺🇸 USA. They both are very red much more red looking than your dressings.
