Beach Worming - how to catch beach worms

    There is something about catching my own bait that is very fulfilling and knowing that I have only caught enough to use for that day without any wastage is satisfying.
    I am certainly no pro at catching these creepy little guys but it is a lot of fun trying. This is a brief explanation of how I attempt to catch them. Some days I catch everyone I lock onto and some days they just keep slipping through my fingers.
    Some people use worming pliers but I prefer not to, I like the challenge of catching them with bare hands.
    Enjoy xx

    very interesting, a couple of those will make a lot of bait. by the way - love your Aussie accent, it so cute. I was in Sydney and Perth years ago and I loved them both. The people were so warm and welcoming. I have never forgotten that.

    Beach worms are great to try and catch with the kids ! They love spotting them and the whole process is a bunch of fun. I can only catch one out of about 20 but we always let them go (bury them) it's just a bit of fun. Anyone who wants to try , all you need is a couple of cans of sardines ( in oil) a stocking and a calamari ring from your local fresh fish shop. It is a real challenge! :-D

  • @tedstriker754

    do you use the whole worm for bait or cut him up in several pieces? I don't recall seeing those on beaches I've been on a lot. That must be a south Pacific, Coral Sea, Indian ocean thing. I've lived in Daytona, Virginia Beach, Naples, FL, LA and San Diego and none of those beaches had beach worms. Or if they did few people knew about them and I never saw one being caught. I've only used earthworms for bait. And they work very well.

      Ps if you haven't ever watched or heard of it, check out fiddler worms, further south of me many still take a piece of wood and use the vibrations to call worms out of the wet ground.

      Cheers, it is pretty cool, hammer a piece of wood into the ground then take a heavy thick toothed file and drag back and forth across the top and they just flood out of the ground, keep up the awesome work.

    Aaaah, you haven't really lived until a pair of quizzical young english backpackers happen by, the curiosity of what the hell that aussie is staring at in the sand gotten the better of them. This is where you highlight that u are catching worms! "Worms? Bollocks" they reply, and need little encouragement to get down really, really close so they can see. This is the perfect moment to withdraw 3ft of struggling pink snake with black teeth from where they've been walking, being sure to mention they're harmless, at worst they might take a little toe!

    We use to catch worms in Maine, USA. But our's had one heck of a bite if you got your fingers near their mouths/Jaws and lived in the mud flats.

    • @Jacksonandjulian
      @Jacksonandjulian 6 лет назад +1

      I live in Maine and am an active beach person I have never seen a worm like this. I do know we have a huge blood worm supply in the mud flats and people have to really dig for them (thankfully.) I really hope they are not right under the sand like this. Ughhhh. I am scared of them I would rather hold a snake.

    • @damieno224
      @damieno224 6 лет назад

      I know that they have saltwater yabbies in the states, collected on the same type of sand flats and methods as here in Oz, so I'm going to reason that brackish substrate worms similar, if not identical to our beach worms are also likely have taken up residence.

    • @fishingbuddyph8786
