    "Absorb" and "Drain" aren't the same thing, by the way. Thought I'd say that here since it's SUPER confusing, they sound the same
    Drain is Destruction magic and it's far cheaper to cast. Absorb is Restoration magic so we're allowed to use that
    Also I didn't make the chapters, RUclips automatically did them. I could turn them off, but they're hilarious so I'm keeping them. Like, it literally called a section "Skarmory". The Pokemon.

      one thing you should have kept in mind is that welkynd stones fully restore your magica, are easily acquired in large numbers and aren't potions so they don't interfere with your healing potions.

      Yeah, that was always the biggest confusion with them. But the drain effect is way cheaper. You can make a Drain health 100 points for 1 second and it kills almost everything in one hit.

    Personally, I'm not opposed to you using a mod to address level up issues. I use a mod called realistic leveling for dealing with level up, it has a few options for how to configure it, but basically it makes it so attributes just gain points based on how high you level associated skills. I recommend it, it's very lightweight and designed to not impact the difficulty curve as much as possible.

    • @patathatapon
      @patathatapon Год назад +7

      I might need to look at that, because I’ve always found the “level up fixes” tend to be a bit overkill. Getting a guaranteed +5 to all skills regardless of what you do feels bad to me. Casting summon skeleton constantly shouldn’t make you punch harder, so I feel like a medium between the two would be nice.

    • @TheJackOfFools
      @TheJackOfFools Год назад +8

      Yeah, I'm 100% in favor of this. Limiting your level ups in Oblivion has always felt really bad, and if he is going to do a lot more of these, he def should address it.

    Hey, nice run! The grinding sounded way too tedious for my liking, don't know why Bethesda makes Restoration leveling so freaking slow in every Elder Scrolls game. Either way, great job! :)
    You can get a "Fortify Skill" spell effect easily without relying on RNG by visiting a Doomstone. Some of them give you a once-a-day power that fortifies your skills, and while you have that power available, you can make custom spells that fortify skills. Example: Apprentice Doomstone, very close to southwest wall of Skingrad, gives you a power that improves your Illusion and Alchemy.

    Weird idea for a run that popped into my head watching this (specifically the wacky quest reward): Oblivion with only 'Gifts'. You can only use items, weapons, armor, est. That are given to you by an NPC WITHOUT first giving them money. IE. Quest rewards, story items, things given to you when you join guilds (could allow for anything someone tells you is yours like items appearing on alters or being put in rooms that NPCs explicitly tell you you can use like guild items and daedric rewards) BUT you cannot use items you buy, steal, loot or find in the world that do not specifically belong to you.

    You only need to be level 5 and a have a low personality stat (which you can just chug a bunch of cheap wine to temporarily achieve) and all you do in the quest is shoot a spell at some priests while other people kill them.

    To bypass the Oblivion leveling system, I install the "Oblivion XP Update" mod. This mod changes the game's leveling system to be similar to the Fallout system. Everything you do will give you the traditional RPG EXP, kill monsters, craft new potions, successfully perform lockpicking/pickpocketing, completing quests, etc. Every level up you get some points to distribute amongst your attributes and a bunch of points to distribute among your skills, favored skills and class skills will cost less to upgrade.

    Little tip: You don't need Spell Tomes to obtain Fortify Skill. If you have the Spell Tomes DLC, chances are you'll also have the Thieves Den DLC, meaning you can buy some Fortify Marksman/Sneak/a few others from some purchasable vendors.
    If you don't have any DLCs, though, you can just take a Doom Stone to temporarily unlock one. The Apprentice Stone is like a 30-second walk directly south of the stables outside Skingrad and provides Fortify Illusion and Fortify Alchemy. You can just quickly grab it and make a custom spell with Fortify Skill in case you want to take a different Doom Stone.
    If you want to unlock it while also KEEPING that same Doom Stone, I'd recommend the Tower or Warrior stones. The Tower Stone provides a 20-point Fortify Armorer and an Open Hard Lock Greater Power. It's directly northwest of Pell's Gate, which is directly south of the Imperial City Waterfront. Meanwhile, the Warrior Stone provides a 20-point Fortify Strength and 10-point Fortify Blade, Blunt and Hand-to-Hand Greater Power. It's southeast of Skingrad and east of the Apprentice Stone. Just try not to be confused when you inevitably collide with the map border.

They use one armor which you can get by slaying the guardsman who walks up the golden coast near that aleyied ruin if you walk towards weynon along the road, they use destruction magic, restoration, bows, long swords, great swords and axes. They also use steel armor and a mage hood, as well as staves for the battlemage. I would also love to see a run using the knights of the nine gear, you can only use their armor/weapons from before you recruit them and after the questline you can use the crusader gear but then you have to beat the main storyline as the crusader.

    Watching your challenge runs is always a fun time. Sucks you couldn't find those scrolls tho. sounds like things could've gone crazy if you had.

    Great run, I really love these! If you ever need a fortify skill spell for a future playthrough, some of the birthsign doomstones can grant you a fortify skill higher power so you can craft to your desire

    I love this beautiful janky game so much and your challenges make it so interesting to revisit. I never did much experimentation with magic myself but the challenges always make me want to try out new stuff for myself.

    Another nice run! Your Oblivion challenge videos are making me want to play Oblivion again, and maybe actually finish it this time. And I approve of allowing a mod to set the minimum attribute bonus on level up to 3.
    Also here's an Oblivion challenge for you, but I'm not sure how good it'll be: Can you beat Oblivion with only staves? Since you can pick one up from the tutorial area, you can start the challenge from the start. I'd also say allow casting Soul Trap manually, so you can easily recharge the staves as needed.
    Another one I thought of, though I'm not sure if it's possible in Oblivion specifically: Can you beat Oblivion with only Followers? You can cast whatever spells you want on yourself and allies, but you can't damage any enemies directly or use summons. I don't know if there's any permanent followers or quest-specific followers you can drag around like in Skyrim, though; haven't played enough of the game to remember.
    And also while I'm thinking about it, thoughts on doing a Morrowind challenge run at some point? I used to love playing that game, with all the shenanigans you can pull off with Alchemy and such.

    comment for the althorithm! maybe an oblivion challenge where you do everything you don't normally do! like levelling up to kill Umbra, or agreeing to join the Mythic Dawn, or killing someone you normally talk to, etc

    Just to clarify, wearing armour doesn't make offensive spells less effective (on npcs or the player) unless the equipment you/they wear is specifically enchanted to resist magical damage, so the MD gatekeeper simply had too much health for you to oneshot him :D

    Oblivion is my comfort game. Thank you for keeping doing those challenges!
    And I think it's ok to use a mod for level progression. It would be more entertaining since you don't run around as a low-level the entire time

    oh awesome, i love these non-pokemon challenges! don't stop the pokemon challenges of course but i really do like these, they're a wonderful change of pace and i watch each one that i notice, they're a great treat.
    if i could give some feedback though, since i know you read the comments: it's hard to notice non-pokemon videos from you in my sub box and recommended videos because what i normally watch for and what my brain uses to tell me "that's an MDB video!" is the red dot in the video title, but there's nothing in the thumbnail that can tell me that it's not a pokemon video, and since i'm usually not in the mood for those i usually keep scrolling. most of my watch time on your channel is audio-only. i actively go to your channel to play one of your pokemon challenge videos when im doing something i can't listen to. but when it's one of these videos i ALWAYS want to watch them because they're more visually fun, but they're harder to find because the titles and thumbnails look the same. maybe changing the thumbnail border color depending on what kind of video it is can help people pick them out from pokemon challenge videos more quickly?

    Great video, gotta love the weird dialogue system in these games.
    As for a leveling mod, in Morrowind my favorite one keeps track of where your attributes would be if you maxed your relevant skills, and continues to raise the attributes you picked up to that number between levels as the relevant skills increase. Maybe not the best for making videos, because it would still require grinding, but it makes it nice for players who want to take the game naturally, without carefully planning level-ups around grinding sessions.

    idea: what if you beat oblivion (or maybe a different questline, that would be interesting) *exclusively* using magic. as in, all damage has to be done via magic, any increase in disposition has to be done via charm spells, all locks must be unlocked with open lock spells, all stealthing must be done with chameleon/invisibility spells... generally, if an action can be substituted for a spell, you must use that spell.
