- This is one complete drift session at Gatebil Rudskogen 2014 with Alexi Smith behind the wheel of a Driftmonkey Supra.
It really shows how insane it is to drive at Gatebil. The smoke, speed and amount of cars on the track makes it both exciting and challenging.
I was driving with Anders Klerud and Formula Drift guest driver Ken Gushi. The aim was to put on a good show driving all three cars together, which we did well enough to win the "Best Team" trophy on the weekend.
Overall, I'll admit my driving was extremely conservative. There was a big range of driver skill, a lot of yellow cautions, it wasn't a competition, and the car had to last three days of drifting in every session and had a bit of a misfire at wide open throttle. The fact I was a guest driver (lots of excuses in here!) also meant that I took it a bit easier than I might have liked.
Despite all that, Gatebil was one of the most enjoyable events I have ever attended, and hope to make it back one day soon.

The whole open drift, free-for-all, track day-ish format of Gatebil's drift sessions is both really relaxed and super sketchy. lol There's a LOT going on.
Like being in a public lobby in GT6 or Forza lol

Insane! Drifting a loaned car in conditions like that, definitely takes some skill and cojones! Love it.
This looks like hell, so many cars on the track and trying to roll through the pits with a heavy duty clutch with people wondering around not getting out of the way but looks like a cool drive

Not normally a fan of the "turkey gobble" turbo sounds. But that has won me over!
Man the sound of that starter motor brings back some bad and great memories
gatebil looks like it would be awesome to attend, but it seems like its too much of a free for all. flags get ignored, you're driving around 500 other cars on track, even in the paddock area it seemed like nobody could be bothered to get out of the way. hopefully this is something that gets addressed before something terrible happens and cool events like this become a thing of the past.

Gatebil has been around since 1993, and has had very few incidents at all. This year we had Liam Dorian acting like a toddler, pluss the huge crash of Tor-Anders Ringnes who absolutely destroyed his car. That is the black GT86 you can see in this video. video on his youtube channel.
Other than that, there was one guy hit by a car two years ago. His car caught on fire, and he had to get out. Car behind hit his oil, and could do nothing. Asim (the guy who got out) lost both his legs, and is now back on track in a gold Skyline with hand throttle and brakes.
Other than that, it has just been engines blown and drivetrains destroyed really.
And that is with five of these events per year, and roughly 40.000 attendants per weekend
So if you ever get a chance to come, I highly recomend it.
Insane! Must be terrifying when you cant see a thing with all that smoke!

Man that looks sketchy with all that smoke. It's kinda cool thay everyone can go out together but in some cases there needs to be a few minutes set aside for the big dogs to put on a show for the hobby drivers. Awesome track though!

Not only the founder of Drift Monkey, he was the founder of many other companys, he help't with alot in the drifting scene here i norway and sweden, he was à great Guy! Couse of him alot of thing changed for the better good of both gatebil and alot of drifters and such - We Will always remeber him. - the feels when knowing all and seeing him in the end here :(
