@@genesismultiverse4896wait it's a real thing??? Sounds like my show. Friends is boring lmao.
Lets be real, Zeus not knowing the correct pronunciation of one of his kids' names would be 100% in character 😅
It's not, though. Zeus is many things, but definitely not stupid. He's said to be smarter than all of the other deities and humanity as well by Hesiodos.
@@Dice_roller Intelligence doesn't mean you can remember the name of hundreds of spawnlings. You can be smart and still be bad with names, especially if you're dealing with hundreds of different people. I speak as someone with an IQ of 139, that took 6 months to learn the name of the guy who sat next to me in a club that only had 5 other members and still doesn't know the names of half the names of the people in the club I manage now even though it's only 12 people.
Also, considering Zeus's track record for doing spectacularly dumb things on a regular basis, I question Hesiodos' sincerity on the subject. I'd be inclined to give the title of smartest god in the Greek pantheon to a more rational diety like Athena or Prometheus. And again, even if he really is the smartest, it's not like he's the god of memory, so expecting to remember the names of his hundreds of kids is asking a bit much of him I think.
@@Dice_roller Being smart doesn't make you good at remembering names. Considering Zeus probably would needed to memorize all the immortal's names, and the monsters, I would not be surprised if he messed up the names of some.

I know for a fact the "gods bleeding anything but gold iquor", "Hades being a villain" and "Heracles being called Hercules" would be on it.
Calling Heracles, Hercules and making Hades the Villian... it just needed a Kraken and it would have completed the "I want to make all Greek Myth Nerds Mad" trifecta
When I first watched season 1 years ago, I honestly thought Hades might not be a villain instead offering a bogus task to taunt the doomed Seraphim, but from what I've heard about Season 2 apparently I gave the writers too much credit.
I’ve mentioned it once before, but if they somehow wanted to make the usage of Hercules somehow accurate to mythology, they would’ve made it so that Hercules kept it because of his trauma from Hera and refusing to be named “Glory of Hera”, since that didn’t exactly save him from her wraith. Then again, he didn’t decide on the name of Heracles in the first place.
It would be inaccurate in name, but much more accurate than Hades being a main villain. Hades is far from a nice guy, but there are better candidates for main villains from Greek Mythology.
@@Larper64 That's a pretty unfair take, Hades is not a villain in season 2 he's an antagonist. And if we are being completely honest he gets more screen time than Heron, and that kind of makes him more of a protagonist than anything else.
@@phantomarceus6387

Nice pfp I also love that idea
I mean, Abrahamic people did have a way to explain Herakles and such. So it isn't far-fetched. Would be fun to see play out tbh.
And turf wars are often. Poseidon, Njord, other gods, and even none gods like Leviathan would fight over the sea. And evil gods like Set and Moloch constantly plan to overthrow "good" gods while Belphegor just causes conflict for fun.

My best guess for why the Roman name for Heracles is more commonly used is because Hollywood made it the more popular version with the earlier movies and then Disney established it in everyone's mind as his one true name. The only time I had even heard of the name Heracles in media was in the movie the Spirit. For whatever reason most people connect more with his Roman name. It might have something to do with the rise of Roman Catholicism over the centuries. Which could also explain why they blend Christian mythology in with Greek lore.
People do the same thing with Cupid too. In Greek myth, he's called Eros, but everybody just calls him by his Roman name.
@@cartooncritique6625 That makes me wonder if it really is Catholics doing that to appease the Western viewers. Because a lot the times even Hades is likened to the Devil and the Underworld to Hell. Despite the fact that in Greek myth everyone goes to the underworld. How you are treated in the Underworld depends on how you lived on Earth and if you feel guilty for the sins you committed.
@@rebal180 It's funny and ironic since it seems like Christianity borrows quite a bit from Greek myth, especially when it comes to the afterlife. The Greek underworld was divided into three realms: Elysium, Tartarus, and the Asphodel Meadows which could easily be likened to Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory respectively.
@@rebal180 Maybe Hercules is easier to say than Heracles, which is why they use the former. If there's one thing Hollywood loves to do it's simplify things.
Amusingly, the Fate anime and games seem to consistently use the name of Heracles.

I would like to point out that eating “forbidden flesh” and turning into a demon is in the loosest of perimeters something that happens in Greek culture with the Vrykolakas, the undead vampire werewolf zombie demon thing created when a human lives in sin or eats the meat of an unjustly hunted lamb…
HOWEVER, these are more medieval Greek folklore than anything ancient. So there is a kinda and also kinda not related thing. No matter what it’s still inaccurate
It should be noted that the war with the Titans and the subsequent war with the Giants is told from the perspective of ZEUS. According to me, much of the backstory was changed to his liking…

Just so you know, from ancient times up until today, there are no unique names except the ones used by the gods.
(Although now that I think of it, the past decades even some divine names have become common names.)
There can be multiple Elektras living at the same time. So, just because someone is named elektra in the show doesn't mean its supposed to be the same Elektra as Agamamnon's daughter.
10:36 wouldnt it be possible that zeus would be attempting to maintain his disguise as the old man by calling him phobetor instead of icelos?
Also since Mythology guy point out "The closest thing would probably Lycaon, who tried to feed his own son to Zeus, and was turned into a wolf as punishment" For the people who doesn't know King Lycaon or Lycan, he's basically known as being the first werewolf. Lycanthrope also means "werewolf", despite lycanthrope was after King Lycaon. I think?
Apparently there are many versions of how Zeus and Hera married. One of them has them together directly after imprisoning their father. Maybe it was a reference to that?
Tyche blessing me on my birthday with an upload from the Mythology Guy! Let's go!
Happy birthday!
One thing I’ll say for this inaccuracy is that Electra is also the name of like a hundred other different figures in Greek Mythology typically in a far more minor role than the famous Electra including 3 different Nymphs, a Peasant and a possible member of royalty.
23:42 That would actually be pretty in line with how much of an a**hole Zeus is...
25:38 Maybe Apollo had Helios take over so he could fight...
Or Helios never give up... why people think Helios stopped being the sun god when he never stopped? Unless Apollo was the sun god in this show but i dont think that was never stated.
Not only that, but there is no story with Apollo riding the sun chariot while doing other stuff. During the day he is always on Earth doing stuff, for example in the Iliad he was a active participant of the trojan war, while Helios pulled the chariot. The same goes for the Odyssey and this is in the very end of greek mythology. So Apollo never took the sun chariot since Helios is the sun god during the last stories of greek myth.
What a coincidence. I just finished season one. Thank you mythology Guy ❤

I do think its important to point out that it makes sense for some characters to have similar names to other greek mythological characters, realistically you can't expect a single person to have their own name exist in a vacuum because people historically and presently share similar or the same names. Also I do think it makes sense to have some abrahamic influence on the show, mainly because Abrahamic religions were heavily influenced by Hellenistic religions and borrowed allegories and concepts from Classical Hellenistic philosophy.
And the Greeks did a similar thing by linking older deities with newer ones, like making Pan the son of Hermes even though Hermes was likely an offshoot of Pan who eventually became his own deity. So I kind of like seeing it a lot.

Some of the reports claim that the "therapist" had other people in the room listening to the session, eating while in session (a whole meal), leaving mid session only to come back at the end of session and end the call, etc. It's along the same lines as the "become a laird" by buying this square foot of land-sponsorship. Anyways, all the best.
I have been waiting for this day!!
Okay, that was a really clever intro to your video and sponsor. Two thumbs up MG.

"What demonic cult leader would have an angelic name"
You mean like...LUCIFER?
Kidding, love your videos btw, I just thought this sentence would be a funny answer.
Even though Lúcifer/Heosphoros _(Ἑωσφόρος)_ is a title of Iesous and not an evil demonic force like ʿĂzāʾzēl for instance.
I have waited a long time for this
We can just be glad Hades isn't the main villain again!
indeed.
Not in this season, but judging from the teaser for Season 2 both him AND Persephone are going to be the villains of Season 2.
@@cartooncritique6625 According to the writers there maybe 5 seasons, I wish I was making that up.
Fun Fact: Hades will be voiced by Fred Tatasciore, who played Beast in Wolverine and the X-men.
Cant wait for your season 2 video hope it comes out soon
Brilliant work. You need to make such as this my man please.
7:25 wait how many people tried to feed zeus their own children, is that a trend?
Weirdly yes
Yyyeeeeesssss I've been waiting for this
I do love this show. Everything inaccurate cracked me up while watching it.
