As much as I like Poseidon in this series, I find it odd that they didn't just use the Egyptian god Sett for this role. - Prideful King - Brother Killer - Feared By Many Would have helped to give the fights more variety instead of having 3 Greek gods in a row.
yeah this is one of the common complaints in the series. if you look at the list of human fighters there is more variety. but the gods have like too many greeks representing them. no Aztecs, no mesopotamian, etc. feels like the Author just loves Greeks for some reason

Yeah, in the original manga and Japanese version, his name IS actually supposed to be Heracles but they changed it in the dubs and subtitles for some reason.
They also pronounce zeus correctly which is something Mythology guy never mentions, mostly because the difference is so much smaller (zoo-s vs zey - oos)
One little detail about the serpent that I liked was the fact that Adam didn't kill him when he cut him up, but he made him loose his limbs to reflect the original fate of the serpent.
One more thing regarding Shiva, His third eye was suppose to be closed all time. And he only opens it when he wants to do his tandava (dance) to destroy.
The Hercules name is a dub thing. In Japanese, his name is shown as ヘラクレス, as seen in 27:31. It's read as Herakuresu, which, given the ambiguity of the pronunciation, it could either translate as Heracles or Hercules, but I'm leaning more toward Heracles.
@@mirzapramudya1580 Yeah. I went ahead and checked the Japanese Wikipedia article on Heracles. They spell Heracles as ヘーラクレース (Hērakurēsu) and Hercules as ヘルクレース (Herukurēsu). The version of the anime doesn't have the long vowels for some reason, but it's clearly the Heracles spelling, as they use ラ instead of ル.
He does many of these sorts of videos. He knows this is what we're here for. But it's nice to support him if he decides to do a different kind of video for once.
Just wanted to say that even in the clip shown of the anime, the katakana text says Heracles (ヘラクレス 27:31) so the anime didn’t change it, the English dubbing team did.
Krsna wasn't necessarily "slain" by getting Overpowered by some Mortal Hunter. He had caused his one death aswell as death of his proud descendants. I would advise to read the story of Hunter Jara and Krsna. To maintain the Order of the curse Gandhari inflicted Krsna with, Krsna knowingly did it all. Everything in Sanatana Dharma has a predestined Order. Jara was incarnation of Bali, who Visnu slayed by shooting arrow, when he was in Rama avatar
Also, the metal the hunter used was no ordinary metal it came from the body of one of KRNAS sons who was cursed by Durvasa Muni a powerful sage that erased entire civilization.

For the point about Loki calling Zeus grampa, I think it is more of a translation issue than anything else. In Japanese it's common to say "gramps" instead of "old man" etc. even when there is no relation. Probably would have come across easier if you watched it subbed instead of dubbed(my guess, haven't watched it).
I don't know if this was confirmed or it's just fan theories, but I think the reason why Zeus looks so old compared to everyone else is because of his fight with Chronos. It could happen that, since the gods were inside Chronos, time passed slower, and that’s why they look so young. But it could also happen that, during his fight with Zeus, Chronos made time go by faster, making Zeus aged faster.
I'm going to pull Sun Tzu's Art of War out here and say that it was because he was trying to appear weak to fool his opponents into underestimating him
22:14 I think this might just be a direct translation from the Japanese version of the story. Calling an older man Grandfather or “Jiji” is usually a way to show respect to that person, not necessarily denoting that you are related to them, though in other cases the term “Jiji” can be used as an insult to an older man. I think the delivery of Loki’s voice actor is what makes it come across that they sound related, but in Record of Ragnarok, they aren’t related at all, due to being from different pantheons, as you pointed out.
Jiji is not respectful at all, in any context. LOL Jii-san, Ojii-san, or even Ojii-sama are respectful. "Sofu" is the neutral term that directly translates to "grandfather". Jiji is just "gramps" or "geezer".
Record of Ragnarok: *breathes* TMG: InCoRrEcT!! Honestly I'm surprised you managed to fit all this in a mere 30 minute vid. Whenever anime or animation in general depicts mythology I immediately assume it's gonna warped beyond recognition.

22:58 Poseidon's wrath was feared, being the god of the sea. He could make things much much difficult. Odyssey was lost in sea because he incurred his anger. So in a way, it is true.
But the odyssey was poseidon getting pissy and fucking with Odyseus. While great reference, it doesn't fit the vibe of this version of poseidon. Ragnorok's pool-boy would ignore Odyseus or just auto-kill everyone involved
@@vesselthanatos3033 but this video is about mythical inaccuracies. Don't get me wrong, I am subscribed to his channel and am just stating a point which the creator of this video could have easily overlooked.
22:59 Correct me if I'm wrong but Poseidon IS known to be "The Wrathful God of the Seas and Oceans". Like there was actually sacrifices for him to make sure you would not enrage him while sailing the seas (their actual explanation for sea storms during Greek times). That's the exact reason the trojan horse worked during the trojan war. They where thinking it was a gift for Poseidon.
Indeed. What I meant was that he’s not more wrathful than the other gods. Several of the Greek gods have inflicted their wrath on innocent people over practically nothing
Fun fact: in the German dub the names are said accurately, for example Heracles, Hajun and the cleaver of misery or whatever it's called, except Bishamonten which is still Vishravana or something like That, but it makes sense since Vishravana is Bishamonten's japanese Buddhist name as far as I know...
Vishravana is actually his Sanskrit name and is the name used in Hindu mythology, primarily in Tantric Buddhism. The more you know, I learned something new today, thanks 😊
@@theburningphoenix Yeah, what does the English dub have against using Herakles? If it was only one thing, sure. But for some reason you find that quite a lot, that exclusively the English version calls him Hercules.

The only reason I can think of them making Zeus a super old man is due to the anime trope of the super old mentor figure being a huge pervert. And Zeus is a huge pervert so the design makes sense if you think of it that way.
That would be cool but Ragnarok Zeus isn't depicted as some pervert. He's more shown to be a battle-hungry enthusiast not unlike Kenpachi from Bleach or the Saiyans from Dragon Ball. The one time making the old guy a perv would've been fitting and they skip on it lol

I think the water around the arena was for dramatic effect. Yes it also gave that effect, but I think the reason why Poseidon didn't use the water was bcs he was too arrogant and subestimated Sasaki (and humans in general)
@jefferygao3935 happy to know that Bubo has a successful career after his appearance in Clash of the Titans, that's the type of luck alot of former actors need these days!
The Loki referring to Zeus as "Grandfather" is most likely a translation error. It seems like the localization team took it literally. A more accurate translation would have been "Gramps" or "Old Man."

i think the reason for zeus looking like a 90 year old grandpa is that his adamas form crushes his muscles and has drawbacks like we see at the end of the fight so if he used it a lot it would explain why he looks the oldest while being the youngest out of the 4 brothers, also in some flashbacks we see a younger zeus that hasnt used the form as many times so he looks younger compared to his brothers
Vasically when he uses the adamas form he begins to look older each tiime he uses it so he looks much MUChH older than his other brothers in the story@@josho7138
While I like lu bu in ror I can say that they took a lot of creative freedom with him here. While he is strong in the Three kingdoms he's also one of the biggest scum if that era. Betraying everyone he ever served (even fate takes that into consideration) and killing anyone in his path, either friend or foe. He wasn't a honorable warrior, not even close to it and after the battle of hu lao gate he got an endless streak of losing to everybody until cao cao kill him like in the series. Chen gong is well depicted here as a lu bu simp but I felt like they could have brought diao Chan there also.
To be fair, Adam was not naked, he was clad with a fig leave, which implies he had shame and covered up - also Hermes only said it's been several millenias since he played that tune --- doesn't necessarily mean its a tune that can only be played on a violin

I think for series like this that takes lots of creative liberties it would be better to do a "mythological accuracies" alongside pointing the concepts adopted by the series and how it handle things
Not really you should never expect a lore accurate anime in a show with super powers this show is awesome for just doing their own thing having fun with it and the Japanese always have the most creative ideas
I'm pretty sure the reason Posiedon never used his water powers was because of how arrogant the shows depiction of him is. Poseidon's fundamental ideology was that the gods were perfect and needn't change, he saw humans as lesser and thus never believed he could be defeated by one. Even to the end, he didnt want to really go all out because his pride was more important to him, and needing to use his full power against a lesser would certainly stain his pride. It can be seen even after Sasaki kills him, when he calls Sasaki a loser despite being dead.
For your kind information gods do have a strong source of wisdom so they can identify that how much power they have to use ,how to use and when to use and one more thing the greek gods are immortal lol shiva can destroy that whole anime and zeus defeated by a man in his god form 🤡

I'd like a basic get to know your mythology series.....like bios on all the mythological individuals, yet grouped together. The Olympians in one, the Norse mythology leaders or well known characters and so on.....really love your explanations and breakdowns. 😊
I not sure of that. Poseidon is the "villain" of the Odyssey, while in the Aeneid the antagonistic goddess is Juno (or Hera). Neptune was also not worshiped that much but was a sponsor for the roman calvary and naval forces, but that is it. Now in greek mythology Poseidon have, lets say, a lot of character (like challenging Zeus to a open fight in the Iliad that could lead to a ending world scenario)
19:51 Ngl, it's kinda weird to hear Heimdall scream "Oh my God!", considering he's a diety himself and the fact that this phrase (I suppose) is refering specifically to the Christian God. It's like if a random Roman god screamed "Oh Santa Maria!"
people arent really in helheim. the only two that are (Sigfreid and Nostradamus) are trapped or locked up. demonic entities are the only ones actually there and thus cannot escape
The water never coming into play was intentional. It supposed to convey Poseidon’s arrogance was his undoing in refusing to use it. He just wanted to crush Kojiro using brute strength.
Also Shiva doesn't have his long hair buns ( where ganga resides , ) the moon ( literally the crescent moon resides on his head to avoid death ), the poison on throat ( yeah he drank the most poisonous poison during samudra manthan) , the snake vasuki ( some say to hold poison some say basuki was great devotee and mount of Shiva but he never leaves Shiva until he dies ) . And when Shiva opens his third eye there should be a world ending fire , but it's absent here . We saw Shiva tears as water here but in myths the year of Shiva became either rudraksh a seed or a huge monster , also there are very few times Shiva actually appears with 4 hands , it's mostly two .
You see it kinda depends, for that we need to understand Shivtatwa, Shiva in his purest form is formless Parambhram, and as formed Sadashiva, but the shiva is we see is Neellohit he is small part of Sadashiva Mahakal..... And the Moon is not only there cool him, it's there to enhance his beauty, it was a gift by lord Vishnu .. after which lord shiva took on his Chandrashekhar avatar

According to the anime, the souls in "Valhalla" take their peak form when they were alive, so that's probably why Iori looks like a child despite dying at 65.
It's kinda weird tho, he was still young when Poseidon killed Adamas and by that time Ares and Hermes were already born yet he was this old when Heracles became a God
Honestly, even with the inaccuracies, i still enjoyed the anime quite a lot. Yes, its a bit cliche, weird and not very accurate, but still pretty fun. The character designs are interesting (to say the least) and the stories are, if not that good, at least semi entertaining. And of course, the premise itself is absolutely incredible. I am absolutely willing to excuse all of this for the confrontations of all these gods, concepts and cultures.
Yeah thats mainly the anime's fault with how wooden some of it looks. No joke, If y'all were to read the manga, the attention to detail on some of that stuff is...REALLY hard to replicate sometimes. Though lately thet HAVE been improving with the animation, so there's that at least
My favourite game going into this show was waiting to hear Heimdall build up the reveal and trying to guess who it would be. When I got them right I just screamed "YES!" out of excitement.
If I recall correctly, in the original version (Japanese) the name is in fact Heracles so this error is not to put on the show but rather the english translation
I hope you at some point cover God of Highschool. It's a korean webcomic that starts off as a martial arts tournament series but eventually has characters from Journey to the West appear and then it gets deep into aisian mythology before having an arc where a lot of different mythologies clash like in this show. There is an anime adaptation but it only covers a bit of the journey to the west stuff at the end as it only covers the first few arcs of the comic (also its a horribly paced adaptation). I think you would like how Yeong-jae Park interprets the norse and greek gods. I don't want to spoil it but it does get a bit off the wall like this show but I think it would be cool.
That's why this was banned here, Like Shiva can be considered on this context like primordial gods like chaos and here they shown how weak he was. Plus he is literally the calmest god there is when not enraged.
Well from the origin to the ending and everything about all characters is wrong and mumble-jumbled and that honestly pissed me alot . All in all this anime was just absurd.
In terms of Zeus looking like a frail old man I kind of assumed that since he wasn’t eaten by Kronos like his brothers his body didn’t stop aging unlike his brother due to Kronos time powers
That is fan theory. Also Zeus looks young in the Adamas flashback that happened after, and in another place is said that the god can chose his own appearance so Zeus is just using a older version of him for no reason but why not?
Fun fact about the bifrost in this show (spoilers for anime only watchers) The bifrost DID exist in the series, but was destroyed by Nostradamus, which is why he was sent to Tartarus, and about the show being inaccurate, I get this video was for fun, I just hope you guys get this series is also for fun, and they had to fuse multiple mythologies to make the concept work, as well as adding extra bits to make the tournament more interesting, just don't hate the series for making itself cooler and working with a cool premise. Fun fact 2, Jesus was in the audience of round 6 of the ROR manga, but they cut him out, most likely to prevent controversy, considering how shiva got people in a frenzy
this may come as a complete shock to you, but it IS possible to have a religious crossover that does not horrifically mutilate said religions and yet it still cool nonetheless.

We heard grandfather !
Plot twist: This Loki is actually Atreus.

"Golden Ichor running through their veins" is now the official catchphrase of this channel
I guess the Asgardians just exaggerated about the impenetrability of their wall. Also, you've got the calmest "Heracles" correction yet!
Zeus: "I cast thunderbolt!"
Shiva: "I cast heat death."
21:09 Huh. I'm surprised you didn't mention there's NO FREAKING WAY anyone would believe that Eve could've made the same kind of GIANT BITE the serpent took from the apple.
Maybe they thought she just took multiple?
I mean they do say that in the manga that in the court of gods, the chance for a human to win a case was astronomically small so it's implied that they just don't care if the evidence doesn't match.
@@GuyWhoWatchesStuff Huh. I didn't think of that.
@@Eis_Cold Oh, yeah, they said the same in the anime. That's a good point.
There's actually an incident where Thor caught the World Serpent while fishing that happened LONG before Ragnarok even happened, so that quote by one of Odin's ravens is likely a nod to that.
Credit to Record of Ragnarok for also remembering that Thor had red hair.
21:45 i think this scene is supposed to imply that it was Adam that caused serpents to slither on their stomachs, and not God.
In the manga they explained that every character can choose how they gonna look like since this is the afterlife
Odd for a Norse Viking God like Thor to decide to remove his beard.
@@brandonlyon730probably wanted to make himself not look as old
Didn't beards symbolizes strength in some of the pantheons though
Honestly as much as I like your accuracy videos. Records of ragnarok is the definition of "its anime dont question it."
It's like looking for historical in accuracies in the fate series.
Which is literally built upon historical inaccuracies
That’s the point of the video It’s not really saying the inaccuracies are bad it’s just for entertainment.
To be fair most fantasies don't base themselves on real-life events/ mythologies and when they do most try and stay accurate.
True tho this series has some of the weirdest changes I’ve seen, tho some of them are really cool like how they did Buda.
@AmericaChavez710 true though Zeus and Ares are a bit meh for me
No no no, despite this series ignoring a lot of things you can see that the author really put some work into the research, fate on the other hand just takes the name of a historical figure puts it on a hot girl and throws everything else away..
"poseidon isn't a particularly wrathful or vengeful god"
unless you're odysseus that is
I think for series like this that takes lots of creative liberties it would be better to do a "mythological accuracies" alongside pointing the concepts adopted by the series and how it handle things
Not really you should never expect a lore accurate anime in a show with super powers this show is awesome for just doing their own thing having fun with it and the Japanese always have the most creative ideas
I think it could have been done much better honestly
I'm pretty sure the reason Posiedon never used his water powers was because of how arrogant the shows depiction of him is. Poseidon's fundamental ideology was that the gods were perfect and needn't change, he saw humans as lesser and thus never believed he could be defeated by one. Even to the end, he didnt want to really go all out because his pride was more important to him, and needing to use his full power against a lesser would certainly stain his pride. It can be seen even after Sasaki kills him, when he calls Sasaki a loser despite being dead.
Or because the animation studion ran out of budget becuz he certainly uses water powers in the manga
@@CERISTHEDEV He doesn't use water powers in the manga
The water makes waves as a side effect of his attacks but he doesn't use them to attack at all
For your kind information gods do have a strong source of wisdom so they can identify that how much power they have to use ,how to use and when to use and one more thing the greek gods are immortal lol shiva can destroy that whole anime and zeus defeated by a man in his god form 🤡
@@WATCHERaboveallofys myth accurate Shiva would be the strongest in the series yes
But Shiva in the series is actually one of the weaker fighters lol
@@overland_brew8197 I am sanatani myself I pray Shiva and they are showing him like this seriously headache is this if he just opens his 3rd eye creation will end because his third eye represent his destructive form but in this anime he has 5 eye and gods are acting like humans where they should have the infinite wisdom like Shiva but .......
You have my respect for the accurate enough details about Hindu mythology.... ❤❤❤❤
I'd like a basic get to know your mythology series.....like bios on all the mythological individuals, yet grouped together. The Olympians in one, the Norse mythology leaders or well known characters and so on.....really love your explanations and breakdowns. 😊
I like how he mentions the bifrost not being there. But reading the manga, you will know exactly why
13:49 The timing with the black crow was perfect
I think the fear of poseidon comes from his roman counterpart neptun where he was indeed feared due to his mood
Probably, but even then might as well use the Roman version instead of the Greek version. Not only for accuracy, but also adding in “another mythos”
Wait did Heimdal say Heracles KILLED CERBERUS???? THEN HOW ARE PEOPLE NOT ESCAPING HADES BY THE DOZEN?!
people arent really in helheim. the only two that are (Sigfreid and Nostradamus) are trapped or locked up. demonic entities are the only ones actually there and thus cannot escape
This one i thinl is due to the fact that there are lots of hell manger gods
Not just hades
Because Charon refuses to ferry them back across the Styx.
Apparently there's only one and a half human beings down there anyway.
I always saw the choice to make Zeus old as a way to show an aftereffect to all his "adventures" as he looks so much older than his brothers
@@VeganSanatani it arose from samudramanthan and put on his head for coolness. but you are right
@@swarno2000 well yea there are many stories explaining it, you are also right.
@@swarno2000 but Shivtatwa is really complicated to begin with 😂
@ABST_01 and how am I wrong exactly ?
21:34 I think this isn't meant to say adam killed the serpent, but rather reference the fact that the serpent's legs and arms were taken as punishment, condemning it to crawl for all eternity
Just read through the manga chapters that depict S1 and I'm loving the series so much. I've been waiting to watch this for a while, and the time has come
According to the anime, the souls in "Valhalla" take their peak form when they were alive, so that's probably why Iori looks like a child despite dying at 65.
Hey only brave warriors are worthy for valhalla
23:32 the consensus in the fanbase I think is that the punch Zeus received from Chronos accelerated his ageing
It's kinda weird tho, he was still young when Poseidon killed Adamas and by that time Ares and Hermes were already born yet he was this old when Heracles became a God
You sounded so offended at 20:08, I love it!!
I only wish the fights would have been animated better
Yeah thats mainly the anime's fault with how wooden some of it looks.
No joke, If y'all were to read the manga, the attention to detail on some of that stuff is...REALLY hard to replicate sometimes.
Though lately thet HAVE been improving with the animation, so there's that at least
@@macewindu3492 season 2(atleast the later 2 fights) has better ones
@@Soup_Whale99 Man... whatever happened to standards when it came to this show?
@@macewindu3492reading the manga is a pretty good option
The fights do look quite good there
My favourite game going into this show was waiting to hear Heimdall build up the reveal and trying to guess who it would be. When I got them right I just screamed "YES!" out of excitement.
Idk why but I hate when people stop the vids but you make it good
Oh my god please do season 2. This anime is a guilty pleasure of mine. It's so stupid and so entertaining at the same time.
If I recall correctly, in the original version (Japanese) the name is in fact Heracles so this error is not to put on the show but rather the english translation
Thank you for correcting the Hercules thing, I am tired of doing it myself
All in all this anime was just absurd.
love your content! love to see that sub count going up and up.
@@sonofcronos7831Are you an actual son of Cronos?
Fun fact about the bifrost in this show (spoilers for anime only watchers)
The bifrost DID exist in the series, but was destroyed by Nostradamus, which is why he was sent to Tartarus, and about the show being inaccurate, I get this video was for fun, I just hope you guys get this series is also for fun, and they had to fuse multiple mythologies to make the concept work, as well as adding extra bits to make the tournament more interesting, just don't hate the series for making itself cooler and working with a cool premise.
Fun fact 2, Jesus was in the audience of round 6 of the ROR manga, but they cut him out, most likely to prevent controversy, considering how shiva got people in a frenzy
He mentioned Jesus in a short, gonna call that a win
this may come as a complete shock to you, but it IS possible to have a religious crossover that does not horrifically mutilate said religions and yet it still cool nonetheless.
26:57
Well I guess since they depicted Poseidon as a prideful god
He didn't feel the need to use his actual powers
This anime is an example of why I love historical fiction and mythology
You get some of the strangest yet interesting things when they’re used in media, even if they aren’t accurate to the source material
15:23 Apollo might be the god of music but ngl I feel like that tune goes hard tho (well for me at least)
I’m just happy to see record of Ragnarok get recognition. It’s been too underrated for too long.
I remember when the only recognized it got was that one video that said Netflix’s multi million dollar mistake
Back with another Mythology inaccuracy video! Even if I have not seen the movie he is talking about, I still enjoy these videos
