    I just ordered a stereo camera online. This video helped a lot to understand what I am getting into. Thanks for the information.

      Glad I could help. These are fun and easier to use than I made it look.

    The "long tail" leader? I recall that was the "Leica Tongue" which was necessary to properly load a 135 roll into a III-series screw mount Leica. (Some call them "Barnack Leicas.")

    I own this camera, and on my first film only achieved two pair of frames (4x images) It's a clunky camera, I just wasn't sure what the level on the left back was, but now I know it's double exposure. Won't be touching that again! Thanks

      It is very clunky and fiddly, but once you get the hang of it they are fun. I learned not to trust the range finder, i own 3 of these and only one comes close to good focus, the mirrors and arms shift with age and (hard) use. I haven't wanted to wreck the bottom covering so I take the rangefinder reading with a grain of salt. I have also made my own stereo slides, more clunky and fiddly but till fun.

    I used a revere stereo camera and a stereo realist camera and found the revere images were much sharper than the realist.

    Many thanks for the tip on loading and passing the film under the "thingamajig". The Realist manual doen't mention this, assuming that the 1960s-style long film leader would automatically pull the film into place properly. I did not notice that little tab, and realize that failure to load correctly would have messed up image spacing.

      your welcome, you will know pretty quick if you miss that sprocket as it is integral to to the rest of the workings of the camera but if you dont know its there you might think the camera is broken. Happy shooting!

    I am looking for a tutorial on mounting the slides in the aluminum mask and glass. Are they held together with tape? Any kind of tape?

    Can you use this camera to make those "3D GIFs" that are extremely popular

    • @tobroken1965
      @tobroken1965  4 года назад

      I had never heard of them, a quick internet search says, probably not. This camera will only do stills on film (2 images). I am going to guess that the 3D gifs are CGI. I suppose you could do a series of stills to create a moving picture but the logistics seem big to turn analog 3D film stills into anything that moves in a digital format. If you figure out a way to do it I would love to see it.

      @@tobroken1965 ahh I thought these took three shots at the same time at very slightly different angles , I suppose I could move the camera slightly and have the subject eyes follow the lens. That way I have 4 shots. www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=%23&ved=2ahUKEwi6uMS73obnAhXWF80KHZfBBWkQwqsBMA56BAgIEAQ&usg=AOvVaw0VTJzWxrN8ZFOD4xbU2nov if you could watch that video and then maybe that gives a better idea if this could do that. Thank you

      Yes you can.These work just like a nimslo 3D, Nishika n8000, etc As long as you scan the negatives and wiggle them, you will get the same effect of those 3D GIFs, but instead of 4 frames, you have just two (this camera only has two lenses). Not the same, but you will get a nice 3D effect as the space between the lenses is greater than the other Stereo cameras.

      I have only put 2 or 3 rolls of film through it and made my own 3D viewer slides, done right its pretty cool.
