+Manuel Rocha That's amazing that you played that's awesome. I've been playing the flute for 7 years now and I have never played a song like that. That seems really hard. lol do you get private lesson just wondering if not or either way that's amazing that you can play that song. I just looked that song up and it looks hard lol. I have never played something like that and I need to play harder songs lol. But I just like to say that is amazing that you did that great job😎
HOLY SHIT?! HOW GOOD ARE YOU! ive been playing 6 years. im taking my grade 8 next year and this piece is my dream. admittedly i haven't hardcore studied it but it is hard to play up to speed.
That's kind of annoying when people get so onto flute players about that. It's not really significant. It's not really natural to hold your right arm up that high, and there's no harm in tipping the head a little to the side. Pretty much everybody that I played with in college held the flute down a fair bit.
i always hold my flute down it makes it much more comfortable like when i started 4 years ago i always held it up and my arms would get tired but now it’s way better like
I remember my band teacher told me she would give me an 100 average in band in middle school (For my full three years) if I learned this over the winter break. So I did. And I was DAMN PROUD.
Ok its official, you win middle school band. When ok was in band we ended up getting a new teacher my second year so I didn't even get to learn enharmonics or kniw that flutes had head corks
😂 I don’t see how band is hard to get a good grade in. I’ve had a 100 average for all three years no problem. Because it wasn’t about how good you were. It was about doing your best so pretty much it was about practicing, playing during rehearsals, and attending concerts.
Actually his flute angle is a natural flute angle. It's bad for your shoulders and back to hold it up completely parallel to the ground, and you get a tighter sound. If you hold it in a more relaxed position, your sound will sound more relaxed and your body won't be as tense. Marching band always makes people think that the flute has to be parallel to the ground, and in marching band it does, but for anything else it shouldn't be. It's like stopping notes with your tongue, good for marching band, but bad technique :)
Your shoulders only hurt in the beginning of holding the flute parallel. You get used to it. And the whole tilting thing was more based on the problem of the flute tilting, but not your head too, which is a bad embouchure. And it’s also because it’s easier to move around on the field when your head isn’t sideways.
I'm a flute player and I love this man! I love it how he doesn't take a breath that often and to believe that playing a flute takes way more air then a tuba, trombone, etc. Because the air escapes everywhere I love it!
OMG!! A Gold Flute!! WOOOOOW!! Never seen a Gold one before!! That perforance was amazing too!! WOOOOW!! "BRAAAAVOO BRAAAVOOO!!" It apears obvious he's a complete professional and has been playing for years probaly. I have my own flute. Wish I was that good. Hopelly one day I will be. :)
I reckon he just watched a youtube video on the way to the concert and just by chance they plucked him from the crowd and asked him to play. Not bad for his first go - no wonder he got a round of applause.

The best flautist the world has ever seen and a very difficult piece. I've been playing for over 25 years bad am finding this piece very tricky. You are my absolute Hero James. Many thanks.
@@corbeaudejugement In the UK the term flautist is a valid word to describe one who plays the flute. James would back me up being from neighbouring Ireland. Flute player or flutist perhaps would have in hindsight been a better international choice. I will certainly bear that in mind for the future. Many thanks.
pandalover1234567896 Marching band is not pointed downwards like concert band. In concert band you have it slightly downwards but not straight like you explained.
pandalover1234567896 He keeps it pointed slightly downward because that is his most relaxed playing position: your sound can change just because the angle of your flute
It depends on what kind of thing you are doing. In marching band, it’s all about straight lines, you keep your posture straight, as well as keeping your flute parallel to the ground. In concert band, you should have a slight dip in your flute, but not too much. If you point your flute down too far, your posture will suffer. It’s the same with classical flute!
Also, it's only a minute. He only needs to circular breathe once to be fine. Alternatively, it's not exactly impossible to hold your breath for a minute; I've done it before on saxophone and if I could, I'm sure he can.
Air resistance on saxophone is much greater than flute. That would make playing longer phrases without a breath on flute more difficult and problematic unless the stream of air was slowed considerably. There's enough space to take a conventional breath in some spots. Still very difficult though. James Galway is a master.

Angle smangle. Differrent flute players play different angles. There is no right angel for a flute player. That's an urban legend.
Totally agree. Parallel to the ground make the right shoulder tense which is not ideal.
