Never fear, Haoko is here! The family can feel well protected with his watchful eyes roaming around the enclosure, looking for any intruders. I agree with you, Karin, that Sumomo may follow in Momoko's footsteps and become an alpha female!😊
07:35 Some great close-ups of Haoko in this video, even though it was filmed some months back. Can you imagine those eyes looking at you? I've always thought Haoko is gorgeous! (If I were a lady gorilla, I'd be headed to Ueno 🤣🤣) Karin, as I've always said, you always capture the very best of Haoko; I truly miss not seeing your work every day or so!
I am fascinated with Haoko's expressions. I also love Momoka's expressions. They share some common features when it comes to how they express their emotions. Haoko is a gentle giant. His love for his females never fades. Thank you, Charlotte, for your kind comment, as always. The pandemic made it possible for me to go see them often, so I was able to share their footage in a timely manner. Now those days are gone, but I will make sure to visit Ueno as soon as I go back to Japan. I still have some footage of the Haoko Troop, which I haven't shared with you. I hope you will enjoy it, although it's old.😊🌸
Sumomo is a sassy young girl, with a mind of her own. A few years ago Haoko had to be separated from the family as he was aggressive & they said it could be the skull's or the TV reflection of visitors. We still don't know what was up. He kept banging on the glass. It nice when they all get on but maybe Toto is intimated by Komomo as she is a big girl. Thanks Karin.🌺
Thank you Sonja for watching the video of the Haoko Troop. I don't think Haoko has ever been separated from his troop due to his aggressive behavior. But you are right about him being annoyed by the reflection of a monitor that was showing his family in the basement (the off-exhibit indoor room). The zoo used to let the gorillas move freely from the indoor room to the outside enclosure during lunch break, but it has stopped turning on the monitor when they are free to move in and out of their indoor room, since Haoko felt agitated by the reflection. In this video, Haoko wasn't so upset like those times. I assume he was just ensuring there was no individual coming to get his females. Plus, there was some renovation work going on near his enclosure at the time I filmed them. That might have fueled his anxiety. Thank you Sonja. I hope you are having a nice weekend.🌸
@@ZoosForConservation That's the time I was talking about. He kept seeing his troop on the monitor & he couldn't understand & was frustrated..He was separated at this time for a few days. Haoko is a family man & was distressed. Thanks Karin, you have a great weekend.🙋✌️
It’s too bad they put a monitor in the basement room. The gorillas need some peace and privacy. I love how Toto takes care of Sumomo. You would never guess that she is an old lady. Haoko looks serious about keeping watch over his family.
I don't think they care whether they are filmed in their indoor room. The good thing is that their indoor rooms are off-exhibit. Yes, Toto looks very young compared to her actual age. She has beautiful eyes. Thank you for watching the video.🌸
I know EXACTLY what is vexing Haoko, and it IS a visible threat (at least to him). Last video I saw, they were still on display, and haven't been removed. Karin was this video from October 2023? Haoko is 👀 5:50, 6:2010:08 staring at those two gorilla skull heads on display in the visitor's walkway towards the gorilla exhibit. I wish the zoo would remove them. If I saw two human skull heads on display in front of my apartment building, well I would be highly disturbed too 🙄. Haoko probably thinks that some random unseen comrade of his has met a terrible demise at the hands of poachers, and further is there a possibility he/his family could be next. Gorillas are VERY sensitive, and their brains are a bit smaller, but similar in structure to that of humans. They're very intelligent. I think this situation should be brought to the attention of the zoo's administration staff at once. I would show your video footage as proof, and request to have the gorilla skeletal heads removed to a different location, out of Haoko's site. This literally is the third time Haoko has been captured on camera reacting to the heads on a stake 🤦. Thanks Karin.
Yes. I agree with you. We have the saying in Japan: When dust accumulates, it becomes a mountain. Thank you for watching the video. Komomo and Momoka need to join a new family. I hope the Ueno Zoo and JAZA are working on the pending issue.🙏
Last weekend I saw Shabani and his troop at the zoo and at my humble opinion Haoko is very big , bigger than Shabani but I think Haoyo looks more sad and Shabani looks more sweet!
That's great to hear. Have you visited both zoos to compare the brothers? To answer your question to another comment, I'm originally from Japan, but I am currently based in Macau SAR (next to Hong Kong SAR), and I film the gorillas in Japan only when I go back to see my parents there. My parents live in Chiba which is part of Kanto region (Tokyo area). I hope you enjoyed seeing the Shabani family in person.
Love it ! My eyes got wet suddenly. So do you speak Portuguese too? I am now in a world cruise and went to Hong Kong but unfortunately I didn’t have time to see Haoyo and troop because we had just a few days in port and I went to see Shabani who is my favorite!
Existen muchos solteros hast tropas de solteros permitan que ellas.puedan tener familia no las dejen solas Momoka parece adulta Toto tiene su cara muy triste
Thank you Sarrah for watching. The zoo found the baby dead within an hour of its birth. It could have been stillbirth. Source: www.tokyo-zoo.net/temp/news/2016_10_13_Ueno_GorillaMomoko.html

Yes! They are safe because they have the king. Thank you Merilynne for watching!🌸
Thank you Karin, I cannot imagine anyone foolish enough to intrude on Haoko's enclosure.🤣
Hahaha! So true.😂 Thank you Bonnie for watching.🌸

Sorry for asking but you don’t live in Japan? I went this last weekend to see Shabani from the states and had to take lots of trains to get there.

Love seeing Sumomo with her surrogate momma Toto!
Thank you Kim for watching the video.🌸

Doesn't Sumomo know that's not her mother that is Toto !
Sorry. I don't understand your question. There may be no concept of a mother in Sumomo's world. She sees Toto as her safe base, I believe.

Haoko is 30 years old. Thank you for your comments.🌸
Nature made their facea look mean so they don't have to be so much. Such cool creatures! Majestic
Are there any videos of Momoko giving birth to the girls and Riki?
There are links of Momoko giving birth to her offspring in my description. Thank you Tammy for watching.
