Man, wait until this Alex Guy finds out that Toyota didn't actully produce the entire Supra but they still call it a production car... Mind blown lmao Edit* Also, some of you people claiming Dodge built the Viper ACR all by themselves are incorrect. Components were also built by plasan carbon and installed by prefix corporation. Not Dodge. Moral of the story... All manufacturers outsource, Alex has a flawed view because that's not his world. Most vehicles on the fastest Ring time list are (including AMG) designed or have Multimatic parts on them. That's just how manufacturing works these days.
I agree with everything you said Alex except availability to the average consumer. Not everyone can get a GTD or GT3RS. My coworker had to purchase 6+ Porches to have the opportunity to order an RS. So both will cost you $500-$1M+ just for the opportunity to get on the list and not even guarantee ownership. GTD = not a production car but a purpose built car financed by FOMOCO. What makes the Viper time even more impressive is it wasn’t even done by Dodge/manufacturer. It was funded by Viper enthusiasts that wanted to know what the car would run.
I was just about to comment the same thing.. in order to get the gt3rs you have to be on porches invitation list, and like you said, you have to purchase multiple vehicles from them in order to get on that list
Google states: A production car is a vehicle that is mass-produced and sold to the public for personal use, and is legal to drive on public roads. The definition of a production car varies by country and use, but generally includes the following criteria: Retail sale: The car is primarily intended for sale to consumers, not for commercial or industrial use. Mass-produced: The car is one of many identical models that are mass-produced. Street legal: The car is able to pass any required inspections or tests to be legally driven on public roads. Original manufacturer: At least 25 of the cars were made by the original manufacturer. No modifications: The car is not a kit car, nor has it been modified by a professional tuner or individual.
@YDBT4LIFE hand built cars can still be production cars, no matter who builds it. Ferrari hand builds production cars all the time. Ferrari builds tens of thousands of cars per year. A company only needs to build a small number of vehicles with VINs that pass all the government regulations to be considered a production car.
I’m all for all the specialized performance companies having more hands in the segment just going to make things better overall. Production car is simply a numbers game to me, good on whichever company is smart enough to farm out their projects and enlist better people I could care less what name is on a car

Is this even a thing? Are people really defending the GTD as a model within the Mustang product line? It's sold out because it is in fact NOT that! It's an outsourced by Ford kit car. That's all. It's great for collectors. But if it was in fact a production vehicle, it wouldn't sell because people would genuinely cross shop other cars in that price range.
I agree with a lot, however to discredit ford you would also have to discredit all of the other cars. When the amg one accomplishes what it does, it will also be Mercedes Benz claiming the fruits. Same with Aston Martin and their valkyrie they don’t say it’s the multi matic valkyrie. You can try to discredit ford but you would have to discredit all of the companies that use multi matic to make their cars.
