  • The active arsenal of takedowns in modern grappling and MMA has been significally narrowed due to the risk of losing position when doing some techniques. However grappling arts are as diverse as life itself and there are situations when it's absolutely comfortable to use some classic throws. One of them is lateral spin. Watch Kirill Sementsov give a breakdown on it in this video tutorial.

Spinning motion, being tight and using his forward movement are the mechanisms that work in this throw. You don't have to lift him up in any way, if that's what you mean brother.

    Good for gi too ?
You could show a repetition in slow motion ...

+Nico Contreras Absolutely. It is widely applied in gi or kurtka.

In the gi / judo, it's gripped a bit differently, but has the exact same mechanic. It's called ude gaeshi and it absolutely works in the gi (just won a tournament with it recently actually!)

+theskorpian yeah, it's proved to be efficient in different grappling styles throughout the years. Thanks for watching!

Just don't change the camera angle in the middle of demonstrating the move, makes it much harder to understand.
