I did the same UI tweaks on Pop OS. I have to think this flies in the face of the what the designers had in mind. Specifically, they support tiled windows and many of the windows commands are available as hot keys using "Super Key" plus some combination of keys. I personally found vanilla PopOS UI a little too cumbersome so I switch to the dock and other stuff you did too.
Just a comment on the lack of min/max by default--I think the intent is that the user does the Super + m shortcut to min/max the current window. I actually find this to be more comfortable, too.
I mapped my mouse to Middle click -> Minimize Double click -> Maximize Right Click -> Menu I kinda like the simplicity of the title bar without the minimize and maximize button I also downloaded Snap Store to get more updated apps
The first thing I did was install KDE Plasma. It's a MUCH more customizable, better looking and intuitive desktop environment. It has so many options and tweaks, so many useful tools.
I understand the main focus is to stay productive and keep your hands on the keyboard. However Linux is about to get more and more popular and many ppl without much knowledge about computer or whatever are switching over. They are used to windows and don't want to or even can't adapt too much. Giving the option to minimize and maximize windows with a mouse click should be natural, to reach all the userbase, not just the hardcore Linux-vets. I mean it doesn't have to be activated by default. But it should be there to activate.

I can't get my video card driver to install, or even find a compatible driver for a gaming headset, or my controller. Playing games on steam is choppy as hell, probably because the video driver won't install.(RTX 3060) Simple things like creating a text file, requires clicking in wired fields, and it's not intuitive at all... I ended up making a skeleton text file on my desktop, and I copy that to my documents folder... it's clunky as hell, but it's the only way I can create a new document... I can't create a new text document in the actual documents folder, it makes no sense why that's even difficult to do in Linux. I installed two M.2, 1 TB SSD drives, however only one of the drives is accessible, and I can't save anything on my second drive, even if I take possession of the drive. The only programs I can run, are the programs that I install thru the "POP_SHOP" app store... And half of the programs in POP_SHOP don't install, It just crashes with no warning, and it doesn't say why the install failed, it just crashes, and brings me back to the desktop. Pop_OS feels like some 5th grade science fair project... I guess it's okay if your just going to surf the web, but If your actually going to do something productive like make a spread sheet, or edit video, or Blender, or stuff that should be easy, it's just an absolute nightmare with Linux. I wanted so bad to learn and use Linux, so I could finally dump Windows... But unless your a programmer, and you can code, Linux will just frustrate the hell out of you. I still don't get why you can't click on an executable to install a program in Linux, why do I need to go into the Terminal, spend 6 hours searching Linux forums, for code to Copy/Paste into Terminal, and in the end, the program still won't install. I ended up dual booting a Windows 10 OS, simply because Linux is just way to clunky to use in my opinion. I use Linux just for web surfing, and Email now. If someone could code a Linux Distro that actually works more like windows, you would see a ton of people move to Linux, because nobody want's to be spied on by Microsoft. Or maybe the Linux community want's it to be difficult to use, just to weed out the non-programmers?
I see you heavily rely on a mouse. It's my understanding that a main differentiator between pop and ubuntu is that pop works to keep your hands on the keyboard. That appeals to me. YMMV.
Re: maximize and minimize buttons - They're using the default Gnome setup for that as vanilla gnome disabled/hid those buttons on the titlebars. Shouldn't be a knock against the distro :-) You can also use the Pop Shop for upgrades rather than the terminal - this is super newbie friendly without throwing them into the terminal right off the bat as not all first time Linux users are tech savvy.

Great video, thank you so much! As I am just tipping my toe to Linux, I have managed to install PoP! into Virtualbox onto my ThinkPad, allocated it 4096 RAM (the laptop has 8GB of RAM) and allocated 15GB onto this virtual machine. It runs VERY slow onto my machine (whereas on your video, also on a virtual machine, runs very fast).. so, and I wonder whether I've set up the virtual machine in a wrong way...Checking system monitor of PoP!, shows that it's using nearly 1.5GB of RAM (1.9GB Cache) out of the 4GB RAM I allocated...is this normal? Could I have done something wrong? Should for example disable 3D graphics acceleration into virtualbox? Thanks a lot !!!!
@@TechHut Thank YOU for answering...the CPU on the laptop is an Intel i5 for laptops; as it was running very slow as virtual machine, I decided to experiment installing it on a USB Flash (as I am not ready to completely lose Windows), so I can boot either directly onto PoPOS from the flash, or always revert back to Windows that is still installed onto my SSD drive. It runs better from the USB 3.0 Flash, not stellar though, but still better (and makes use of the full 8 GB Ram of the laptop). The issues I've had though from running on a USB Flash are: a) bootloader was destroyed at some point so I couldn't log-in to Linux no matter what I've tried to recover, and b) when I re-installed onto the same USB, long boot time, despite asking during installation to "delete everything on the USB flash".. -I can order an espresso from my local, pay it, go back on my table and it has still not booted up, needs a few more mins. I like it a lot though as a system, though I am finding connect problems with Wi-Fi drivers -loses connection every few mins. Thank you!!

Uh, better from the usage side, anyway
-- obviously not better from the communicating-to-you-that-it-*CAN*-be-used-that-way side
(
obvious solution to *that* would be to have it display something when you moused over it I guess...
in which case you could make that display a generalized "did you know?"-tooltip that could *also* tell you the *keyboard* hotkeys for the action...
and direct you to a centralized list of all the bindings to check/modify them....
... and you might think having mouseover tooltips like that everywhere would get annoying,
but if you had a generalized system for it built-in to the desktop-environment,
then each tooltip could just have a "ok, don't show me this again"-button built into it
(
and also have the centralized list include a field in each entry for whether the associated tooltip has/hasn't been hidden away by the user,
so the user can easily find it again if they go "oh damn, I knew it told me what the binding for that was, but I forgot it"
... and also have that list underlyingly read/write to a simple text dotfile,
so that experienced users setting up a new system can just copy it over to get both their hidden/unhidden preferences and their custom bindings back at the same time
(and have the list *tell* the user bout all that...)
)
... considering that all that stuff is obvious to *me*, and *I'm* generally uselessly ignorant and incompetent, it makes me wonder:
why the heck is it not even *more* obvious to the people who *are* actually competent and knowledgeable enough to actually *make* desktop-environments???
(... I dunno, maybe I'm wrong about the fact that it *should* be obvious, but I'm *so* incompetent I can't even see how...)
)

You do know you don't need to type the Y if that's capitalized anyway, right?
So helpful, thank you!
For the update command, does that include GPU drivers as well?
My keyboard doesn't work with my new Lenovo Slim Pro X and need to install the Linux Kernel Mainline 6.0-rc5. This is the first time I install and use Pop Os! I have an external keyboard and want to install the Mainline Linux Kernel 6.0-rc5 since it should resolve my keyboard issue. I need to know how to do this... It's been awhile I haven't compiled , make and install a Linux Kernel. Any help is appreciated.
No mention of firewall?
I need help...So I installed gnome tweaks, but when I open it up..the sidebar options dont appear for me. What should I do?
How do I find your videos after this one where you have used it on your laptop and made a review of how well you like it? Great job. Thanks!
Still using it overall positive experience. I even reverted it how it was and removed the minimize and maximize buttons to use it as intended. It's working very well as somebody else mentioned I made it so you right click to minimize and double click to maximize. Full review still coming soon.
I have a problem you may be able to help with.... when i hit the windows(super key) to bring up the dock i would like to resize those icons smaller im running the flat remix theme and have tried editing the .css on all themes listed in the folder and i can not get the icons on the dock smaller (i am editing with nano in sudo) and they changed are shown in the .css file but nothing changed, have tried looking in dconf and changing everything relatable nothing worked and im alt+f2+r after every change to check im out of ideas i havent installed dash to dock because i didnt want a dock on desktop but it looked like you could change size in your video by doing that?
Lol he liked it but he didn't reply
Ram isn't the primary concern. What's the CPU? Sorry Rayyan. I didn't see the Read More option when I first saw the comment.
@@TechHut all is well. You helped me dual boot Pop_OS in one of your videos, can't thank you enough.
Thank you!!
I installed popOS recently, and now anytime I try to download an update the WiFi will drop, any suggestions?
hi , your youtube video is not 1080p. Because linux doesn't support 1080p, I think. Due to you captured a low-resolution video. right ?? I did your advice completely. but I can't play video (h.264 codec error). How Can I fix it and how can I fix the OBS studio record. Because My recorded videos are too blurry. by the way My configuration amd ryzen 7 and radeon rx580 graphic card 8 gb. the same of yours.
gm man.why when i do install sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras dont let me pass the ok,i do press ok space whatever and dont move?
Hi Tech, I am using POP! OS in the latest version 20.10 but I want to move my repositories and ppa from my elementary OS 5.1.7. I can not find the app that controls (the program that you launched in Ubuntu to configure the repos and ppa) that if I can install in elementary and be able to install the software that I use in elementary to POP. Thanks !!!
Did trimming active by default in pop os or i should activated this.
because i use ssd and hdd
i have dual booted with windows 10 all works pretty good but pop os turns on only if charger is connected !!!
any solution could be a great help
No minimize and maximize buttons strikes me as odd. Simply for the fact that it's a pure downgrade from windows for the sake of aesthetics. Having to do 1 extra click to do something which is already standard is just bad UI. It's not even preference.
1:56 Windows sound detected)
i've installed pop_os today for the first time and I was wondering: how do you enable/use the search bar like you did at 4:50 ?
You can use the super (windows) key, click on activities, or click on "show applications" on the dash/dock to use it
Good tweaks, but would be better a Remote Desktop Utility from the cellphone connecting inside the home LAN.
Also, mister, for the 5th part, I faced this error when i cut pasted the terminal command, error: E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend. It is held by process 6081 (packagekitd)
N: Be aware that removing the lock file is not a solution and may break your system. Plz help me with the same, thanks :/
Why is a desktop modification a browser extension?
@@LilAlbus Still seems an odd way of doing it. Will installation of extensions work in the absence of Firefox?
bro i used your tutorial but my wifi network doesnt work, it says that it's connected but it has a question mark in it and no connection to the internet
I hah a strange problem with pop os that made me reinstall windows :( . It seemed like the graphic drivers were not not working properly! I have an Intel and an Nvidia. The system was slow and there was screen tearing and some glitch time to time. The fan was also working all the time. What can I do to fix this problem?
for some reason tweaks just show general not the rest of the options
HOW DO I DSABLE THE INITIAL SCREEN IN POP OS? IT KEEPS BOOTING UP
How do you Install Dash to Dock or Dash to Panel using Terminal (not Firefox)? Thanks
Good video. It would be great to see how to actually connect remotely to a pop os machine with remote desktop enabled .
I installed Pop os but it was slow and looked like the graphic cards were not installed though the system recognized them and the hybrid mode could work! there was a problem with frame rate and there was a glitch time to time on some parts of the display! the fan was also working all the time so it felt like the graphic cards are not installed properly. What should I do?? Thank you.
p.s. I have a laptop with two graphic cards, one Intel and an Nvidia
after installing gnome-tweaks I still had no options for the buttons. had to do it manually:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences button-layout ":minimize,maximize,close"
Just wanna confirm which is best to download using popshop flatpak or deb? and why?
Flatpak is new application framework.Apps like whatsappQT and Freetube only available in this framework. You can use deb if available, because it is faster in speed
How do you get Pop!_OS on a chromebook and remove ChromeOS?

Am I missing a ppa? This command does nothing in my Pop OS
ubuntu-restrcited-extras is available in the multiverse repository, so you have to enable it
sudo add-apt-repository multiverse
I tried to install gnome-tweaks but it still only shows me general.
