@@spudsbuchlaw the stuff before break was his take on making up a story so not to be like Matt's fantasy style, he put them in a dream he had right before, then the whole kid thing was prob just a fun aspect for them to goof around with, since he's the one that always says he and his friends act like children, and also to slightly embarrass/mess with them cus he got to tell us about their childhood appearances and photo likeness XD, i could be wrong, but that's my 2 cents

The entire time Robot Liam was talking to his friends, I was reminded of a quote by Anne Frank, that says: "Dead people receive more flowers than living ones because regret is stronger than gratitude."
Thank you Liam, for being brave enough, strong enough and vulnerable enough to openly share your appreciation and love for your friends. He shattered society's rules of "keeping your feelings to yourself". We all take for granted our friends will be there for us but in actuality, we aren't promised a tomorrow. Do your friends know how much you love them? Have you just assumed they know how you feel? What are you willing to risk by keeping your emotions to yourself? By keeping quiet, are you unknowingly risking your friendship?... Or perhaps risking worse?
Suicide rates have arisen because of COVID-19 and I challenge anyone reading this to call your friends and let them know they are loved and missed. Because, statistically speaking, many of us will regret saying nothing.

Part 1: Liam tells them that although they weren't so fortunate as children, they have each other now, and that's enough.
Part 2: Liam tells them that his greatest fear is seeing them fall one-by-one in this ruthless industry.
Part 3: Liam tells them that they are among the important people in his life, capable of finding and saving him in his darkest moments.
Part 4: Liam's pure honest feelings.
I have no idea how any of them made it through that last part without bursting into tears. I was a complete sobbing mess after the second one.

As a DM I always have the best time as a player it's nice to let the weight off your shoulders and just lose yourself in your character
If you haven’t watched Exandria Unlimited yet, imagine this for 8 episodes. Dariax the dwarven Himbo cleric is a mix of excitable puppy and chaos gremlin.
For some reason hearing Ashley say that it’s great that they’re at that age & all friends because she didn’t have friends and at they all pitches in w/ similar experiences feels really healing for me

I know I am super late to the party with this comment, but i just wanna say: As Liam said, it can be pretty scary putting yourself out there and DMing a homebrew session (especially when you're following the genius of Matt Mercer) let alone also telling the people in your life how much they truly mean to you and airing it live on the internet for the scrutiny of millions. I think what Liam did here was not only creative brilliance, but incredibly brave as well. He really shared a part of himself with the world and I think everyone would agree that we are all richer for having experienced it.

This is super late also but Liam has an excellent creative mind, always has. He is an excellent story DM much like Mercer is. Check out all of Liam's One Shots, especially the House Lorellei Werewolf one. Excellent.
Liam is a brilliant story teller that takes huge brave steps to be expressive. This was huge- but you can see it though his characters (campaign 1 and 2 as well as many one shots)- hes an honest and very emotional man that has a platform to express how much he absolutely loves the people he’s surrounded by and it’s amazing and brave
So many props to him 👏🏼
Honestly, Liam is a brilliant DM. He’s done a really good job building the campaigns in terms of story, combat, and puzzles, and he does an excellent job at executing said plans. He’s done a really good job in my opinion with is one shots.

It’s so brave of him to incorporate those vulnerabilities into the story. It made the experience a whole lot more touching.

@Thej Yhome Well Liam did admit at the end that Travis losing it was intentional. It's the whole reason he chose to use that voice.
Ashley was paying full attention from the start, too, and never cracked up laughing about the voice. While the other 4 were fully lost laughing, Matt and Ash-o-lee were in it.

I love how everyone is giggling at Speak-and-Spell Liam...EXCEPT for Matt. That is a DM recognizing a narrative beyond a voice. Seeing past a "gag" to a greater story and by the end we are all balling. This is DnD at its finest
His Speak-n-Spell voice is also fucking incredible. I was in awe for fifteen seconds before everyone's laughter (excluding Matt) broke me and I was laughing too. I really didn't want to laugh, but their laughter is infectious.

@@yooooo8600 There was a child’s toy in the 80’s I think (though they’re still around) called a “Speak ‘n’ Spell”. I don’t remember exactly what it did, but I think it would ask you to spell a word, and you’d type it on the keyboard and with each letter you pressed it would “speak” the letter’s name. It had a very specific and unique voice.

Another layer is that Matt used to have a speech impediment, and so I imagine he did not find humor in a funny-sounding speech.
He had been hinting at it from the beginning. With the way he always said 'im sorry' when the shaking started and their heads started pounding? It was always Liam trying to get them closer to him. It was him apologizing for the pain they were being put through just for him to see them.

I know it's been pointed out, several times. But I love how Matt knew that those final moments with Liam weren't actually a joke. You can see the weight of Liam's words on Matt's face. He had so much respect and humility for Liam at that moment.
Having watched Between The Sheets, I think it may also have a lot to do with how similar Matt’s experiences were to Liam’s. It wasn’t that the others were being disrespectful, they just had a little bit further to go to connect to Liam’s story, whereas it instantly clicked for Matt. It’s also why of the entire cast, Liam and Matt are the two I feel the most kindred with. Marisha is the one I most want to become, but Liam and Matt are who I have been.

I was drinking water and it went straight up my nose at this point, the way Ashley said it just killed me lmao
I know everyone but Matt catches flak for laughing at the Speak-n-Spell, but if you watch all their faces, and especially Taliesin and Travis's eyes - Taliesin looks on the verge of emotional outburst the whole time, and Travis is blinking like he's holding back tears by the time he gets to Laura's part. They may have all laughed at the hilarity of Liam busting out his trump card, but there's a level of appreciation and love from all of them there that I'm sure is lost on a lot of us.
Liam used the voice specifically because it always makes them laugh, so anybody giving them flak is completely off the mark to begin with.

After hearing Ashley talk in her Between the Sheets episode about struggling with getting close to people and forming relationships (a problem I definitely have as well) it was so beautiful to see her reaction to Liam's kind words. If someone ever said things like that to me, I would probably break down immediately. I want a friend group like this one. For now, I'm holding on to someday.
I noticed in the Dalen's Closet one-shot, she used the phrase "richer for having known you" in Pike's speech. I love that it stuck with her for something 2 years later.
I feel like if CR had failed as a channel/company, the only difference in timelines would have been the show wouldn’t have been streamed. The eight of them would be in Marquet fighting the apogee solstice right now, telling amazing stories.
OMG! the way Liam tackles TABOO topics like depression and the (implications) of suicidal thoughts are heart wrenching. This episode had me hooked from the start and made me cry by the end. this is I believe, the first time i have commented on a RUclips video ever, but something so special like this made me break my silence. The love and brotherhood the cast have and show for each other is worth being envious of. I really enjoy CR and can't wait to catch up with season 2.

@@mikafizz1022 During the time of this one shot Liam had lost his mother a couple months before. He was going through a very, very dark time.
The story of this one shot is Liam telling his friends all of what he feels about them. Because he missed that chance when losing his family member so he wanted to make sure that it didn't happen again.
He hasn't publicly talked much about how bad he was during that time but you can draw your own conclusions.

Am i the only one who noticed what Liam did with the ages. Basically he reversed everyone. If there the oldest then they were made the youngest in the DnD campaign. Talesin is the oldest member and he was the youngest in the campaign. Marisha is the youngest member but was the oldest in the campaign.
Either that's a cool plan, or he just asked everyone for pics of 'when they were kids', and that's the ages they ended up. Sometimes shit's just random :)

I know this comment is 2 years late, but I'm not so sure they didn't save Liam. I mean Liam outright said they had to kill him to save themselves, but they refused and ended up being sent back anyway. So the way I see it, Matt's gambit worked and Liam was able to send them back to a point in time before he was taken.
I think I like the ending they chose over what Liam was going for.
They chose to die together or not at all. THAT'S what family SHOULD be. THAT'S how you treat a true friend, especially a self destructive one, as I've been in both sides of that. "Together or not at all" is often a great way to show how much you care.

I've noticed that going back with his reserved expressions with Caleb whenever someone (spoilers) talks about burning someone alive or killing a family member. like dang. We know his poker face now!
Okay, I know this three years old now, but there is something I think is important to say. Yes, this is a very touching and beautiful way for Liam to tell his friends what they mean to him and how they have helped him through his hard times. But I want to say if any of you are ever in a situation where a friend does something like this after going through a very hard time, it does not mean it is over and something like this could very well be someone's actual goodbyes before they attempt to take their own life. If you have someone in your life who has gone through great struggle and is one day very 'happy' or going out of their way to appreciate those around, please do not assume all is well. The decision to end things can often make someone look as is they have returned to normal.
In these past year with covid I've dealt with 3 suicides of friends and it is so true. The sad silence broken by a sudden burst of happiness can make you feel so good that whatever crap your friend was dealing with is over, but hurts so much more when you realise its not. You speak the truth

This was so beautiful in the twisted, genre savy way that could only leap out of the brain of Liam O’Brien. My heart first dropped when Ashley said that as kids they were the age where they didn’t have many friends (which how, they’re such cool weird ppl lol) but it makes my heart swell knowing they have found each other and have become and built the family that they are today.
Also, I want to say how much I love Ashley even more, not only was she metal af but also how she fought so hard to help Liam in the end she truly is a pure soul.
Please tell me I was not the only person sobbing like a baby when Liam was giving his "final words" to the others. And Sam's mentioning of Liam being their heart.

I've always been impressed by Matt's storytelling and craftsmanship, but holy hell if Liam doesn't crank it up another notch with his gothic horror showpiece... and then the heavy emotions at the end, this is truly a masterwork.
I think, what with the reality-bending, that this is more a cosmic horror. The Briarwoods Arc is a good example of gothic horror.
I think my favorite part of this video is watching Matt respond to Marisha's weirdness with complete adoration. They are just so damn cute.

So he was taken shortly before 2020 and then lost his friends and then the whole world a little while later. His power of foresight is impressive. But thankfully losing everyone turns out it just meant sitting at different tables

Y'know, just now seeing this after binging campaign 2. (And let me just say, this is superb work and also one of the most heartbreaking yet heartwarming things I've ever seen, and a beautiful testament of this deep friendship they have, which I envy with all my heart. I wish I had this kind of chosen family)
I've read many comments saying that Liam's monologue has vibes of a suicide note, and I just wanted to point out that while Liam had full on admitted to suffering from depression at that time and it is well known, he had also mentioned in several shows that at that point in time, in addition to losing his mother and other things that really amped up his depression, he had been experiencing his ear problem and has admitted that at that time he was thinking he might have a terminal illness or something of the likes because he didn't know what was happening and it took time to get it diagnosed. (I think he talked about it in Between the sheets as well as a few mentions in talks machina, I think?)
So rather than a suicide letter, it may have been more of an "in case I'm going to die" letter. He was experiencing existential dread at the time so that might be more of what caused these vibes, as well as his need to thank his friends for being there, and telling them how muhch he loves them. And I adore the way he did it, even if it broke my heart a little. I truely wish him happiness and all the best.
