I don't feel so bad after watching... Trying to catch suckers in a local creek, and I made some many bad throws. But I'm getting better. Hardest part is when they hide under trees or logs. I started throwing rocks to chase em out, then toss the net trying to avoid obstacles.. Best throw I had eight 10-16" fish. I'll get better, but will take practice. I've been using a 5', or 10' diameter net, while walking in the water, so need a bit different technique, as there is length to the net.
Looks like the Keystone Dam on the Arkansas River in Oklahoma. While you certainly got a lot better, that's a fairly small surface area to catch so many fish! Nice job Lance!
Love using a cast net! Good to see you got it. There's an art to it. One of the most overlooked ways to catch bait. Watch out for big carp...very hard on a cast net.
i was going tell you about all the informative and entertaining videos you can see on y-tube but you figured it out . keep up the good work . i do have a quick question though . how large do the gar get in the mississippi . ihad one alongside my boat the other day that had to be 55 inches . any experience with them .
I’m not sure how big they get but I also have seen some giant gar like you described. Personally I have never targeted gar. They are a bit hard to deal with so I haven’t never went after them.
Oh man man you’re a long ways from home lance. You missed the striper and wiper run by about a month. That’s a good spot and I’m surprised you went there. Next time bring a 12ft surf rod and a 4000 series reel. ;)
Arkansas River I believe. I can’t believe the amount of bait fish you can get on 1 throw of that net. Very interesting video. Something I would enjoy doing some day. Would you be able to get shad on the Mississippi using that net here in Wisconsin?
Minnesota residents can get a permit to use cast nets for shad on a large portion of the MN side of the Mississippi. Getting the permit is a cumbersome process however.
Dont worry about the cast net we have all started that way!
Thanks! There is definitely an art to it.

I would’ve looked just as goofy😂 you started to get the hang of it! I’ve never thrown one before
There is definitely a method to it that takes time to master.
Awesome! I have a hard time throwing one.
It’s definitely harder than it looks.

Yes! The river was loaded with fish. Probably the reason it was hard to catch catfish.
Awesome video. We all feel your pain. Been there
Thanks River Rat!

Thanks! I never thought about what would happen if a big fish got in the net 🤔

I was down there for work but brought the poles. It was fun checking out some new water!

👍. Unfortunately cast netting is not legal on most parts of the Mississippi River due to invasive and exotic species concerns.

Just west of Tulsa on the Arkansas River below Keystone Dam.

I was going to guess the Missouri River in South Dakota until I saw the signs.
The signs were a pretty good clue 😁
Lake Barkley dam Kentucky
Further south
Funny but I know I would be the same with that net.

You can't buy experience. So don't think about the money loss and instead the knowledge gained.
Agreed!!!
