Thank you soooo much for making. This video is absolutely fabulous! In the newspaper article you cited, Kashiwazaki-sensei told that he felt as if he looked at himself when he first looked at her fight. I was so impressed by the fact that even though they live in a different age and have never talked to each other, his newaza skill was passed down to her so successfully. Probably he has never imagined that his best successor would be a heavy-weight woman judoka.
Thanks for the extra information. I had only read some Japanese blog articles and the Japanese version of her wikipedia page, so I hadn't seen that quote.
Most if not all referees are biased against newaza. Newaza is an integral part of judo and referees should give time to anyone who starts the technique before they call mate. Most newaza specialists lose because they are not given enough time to finish off. I took classes from Kashiwazaki sensei and he is starting to teach more tachi waza and very little newaza.
I didn't know she modeled her game after him. Kashiwazaki was amazing and he really embraced ne-waza and took it to a new level. Glad to Hamada Shori taking his ideas into a new era.

What an work ethic lady is hamada 👍👏
Why wasn't she at the 2024 Paris Olympics if she's already a Gold medallist from Tokyo 2020?

I'm surprised Hamada tried Sambo. I understand that the IJF does not allow judokas to compete in other grappling competitions.
IIRC the rule was passed after she won her world championship.
7:32. She has her tied and helpless
Which judoka has the tightest sankakujime technique applied in the women's category ?
I like Mami Umeki's because she gets a lot of submissions with it. I also think Munkhbat's pinning controls from sankaku-gatame are really good.
👍👍👍
