Something about a steel guitar and vinyl that just works man. It may not have the ladies linin' up at the door but really, most of us wouldn't know how to talk to em' if they did anyways. Thanks for swingin' in! - Lj
Nice, glad to see you have some Haggard in there. 'The poet of the common man' never disappoints I been lucky enough to see him a few times before he passed.
Interesting video, Lj... as I probably told you in another Honkytonkin' video of yours, I don't listen to country music very much, only when I visit my sister, my brother in law is from Tennessee and he loves it, so I listen to it the whole time I'm with them... Great video as always, bro!
IQ! Apologies for the serious delay responding to this one. Really appreciate you settin' some time aside to catch this as I know country isn't necessarily your thing. Still, glad to hear you get some exposure to it though the extended family. It's not hard at all to hear the rock n' roll roots throughout the music, the genre (after the 50's) was heavily influenced by it. Thanks, as always, for settin' some time aside to stay connected, always great to hear from ya and ope the week is a fantastic one! - Lj
Hooray! Honkin' Tonkin' Lj is back! I don't listen to a whole lot of Country, but I do have some have tucked away in the basement. Once I have the Music Room done, those albums will be added to the collection. Like you, I heard it growing up and to me, at that time, my narrow little mind couldn't get passed the depressing lyrics that, back then constituted a hit song. You definitely showed the classics of Country music, Hank Snow, Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Johnny "my name is Sue" Cash. Great video Lj! Hope all is well there, all is well here. Take care! - Maria
A Boy Named Sue is a classic, great choice! Hey there Maria, nice to hear from ya and see a couple vids (which I need to circle back to) hit the feed as well. Sounds like our young ears both experienced the same sounds. Little did I realize at the time how long lasting a hold it would have on me as the years ticked by but in hindsight, I'm thankful Grandpa spun these and that I was there to absorb it. Appreciate you settin' some time aside to catch this, hope all's well! - Lj
No Waylon Jennings LPs? OMG, can't believe that one! haha Love his Fantastic Album, *DREAMING MY DREAMS* I really enjoy your vids, you have an excellent channel.
No Waylon here doesn't mean there's no Waylon in the collection. There's plenty, only missing a small handful. Goin' Down Rockin' was one heck of a swansong. Glad you dug the vid, appreciate the kind words! - Lj
Watch out! When we are treated to a country update completely with a New England style delivery, you know you are in for something swell. > Now wait a minute. How did you get Johnny Cash to do that four word promo? I have to agree with you Lj, 'Ragged Old Flag' has some fantastic album art. I could not name one song on the whole album but I love the looks of it. It still happens. That's all I have to do is hear Buck Owens name and my mind reverts to Creedence's 'Looking Out My Backdoor'. "A dinosaur Victrola listening to Buck Owens". You have to love that song. I have only heard one of these albums. I will leave it up to you to guess which one. It is a pretty simple guess really if truly think of it. I will give you a hint. It wasn't Boston's own 'Dukes of Hazzard' who back him up on the album. Excellent update once again Brother Lj. I always feel like I got to wear a cowboy hat and boots when I watch these Honkytonkin' updates. Love the country feel~ Rob/Boston
There he is y'all, the man that owns The Man in Black's Def American lp's with a smile and can't say I blame ya. Those lp's give me the chills everytime. Stark, honest...I honestly don't even consider em' country which is kind of wild but they just strike me as a man makin' peace and damned if Rick Rubin wasn't the perfect cat for the job. The man's got some kinda magic in his soul and it never ceases to amaze. Can you imagine had Johnny not capped his legacy with those records? They are absolutely timeless. Ragged Old Flag contains nay a hit and it don't need to. As a while, it speaks it's message with an honesty that's not all that dissimilar to those very same Rubin recordings albeit 30 years earlier (and naturally, a bit more countrified). Creedence, Dukes and Owens, rock n' roll is strung throughout country music, has been for decades, it's easy to hear and easily covered by the sweet pedal steel for anyone not willin' or wantin' to hear it. Shocked, really, that it had been near 2 years since I'd made a country update. Shame on me n' my banjo. I apologize to your cowboy hat but I'd love to see it atop your noggin' in a future video! Thanks as always my New England brother for settlin' in to yet another round, another stack. It wouldn't be the same without your pen drippin' n' prose perfection. - Lj
Howdee Lj, Nice of Ben to pass along that Steve Earle & The Dukes album and glad to hear it was right up your alley and a real keeper, I have a Bobby Bare album that I found years ago , bought it for the humerus song That An't No 10 " and was my first introduction to Bobby. Jonny Cash, Buck Owens ,Hank Snow all big hitters that I remember from growing up because my father loved his Country music and Hee Haw. Great seeing a new Country Update video from you buddy , enjoy the rest of the evening and the rest of the weekend. Take care and talk to you again soon. ~ Jeff
Bobby in the collection and an upbringin' full of country classics to pass through your ears. What more can ya ask for? Country was a bit of a staple here as well, mostly in Grandpa's cabin conveniently located in the middle of the woods...I didn't realize it at the time but I'd come to greatly appreciate all three (the music, the remoteness and Grandpa) tremendously as the years ticked by. Really appreciate ya settin' some time aside to catch another round of wax Jeff, it means as much now as it did last time and as I know it will next time. It wouldn't be a video without ya and always look forward to hearin' from ya. Hope the week's treatin' y'all fantastic and I'll catch ya on the flip side brother! - Lj
Hey Liam, long time no chat! Glad you dug the vid, agree entirely that 50's Jones is simply unbeatable. Thanks for castin' some time aside to catch this, great to hear from ya, hope all's well! - Lj
Hey LJ, I'm a long time subscriber and have just started making my own VC videos. You were the first person in the VC I ever watched and you were one of the people who inspired me to make my own videos. I agree with what you said about post 1977 country music and Ryanrocks! I'm a big fan of Merle Haggard and Bobby Bear but the Louvin Brothers top my list. Do you have much of their stuff? - Take care - Brad
Hey there Brad. Congrats on startin' up your own channel, that's fantastic. I'll make a note to swing by, I'm sure it's great. Ben's channel is amazing. Hes been here as long as I have and his collection / knowledge are off the charts. The Louvin's are fantastic and what a story too about their career. Satan is Real is of course everyone's introduction and man, I'd have loved to have been a fly on the wall when that cover rattled America when it was new. Thanks for the kind words and support and for castin' some time aside to catch this! - Lj
hey LJ,what's up? great video I love the Garth brooks debut on shelf. I have to say, today's what they call country makes me get bad headache!!! the Johnny cash album cover is pretty cool catch ya later-jesse
Hey Jesse! Today's country music isn't even worthy of being called that. Straight up garbage, every song soundin' exactly like the one before it. There's a pretty cool vid on RUclips that runs a bunch of em' side by side, the results are hilarious! Should be easy to find, something like "all modern country songs sound the same". Thanks for swingin' in bud, always great to hear from ya! - Lj
lj outstanding my man garth brooks i just got his blame it all on my roots 5 decades of influences 8 disc set i got it at my local ollies store its a blast
Congrats on the Brooks pick-up Todd, sounds like a great set. I'm not a huge fan (little too commercial for me most of the time) but he's got some decent stuff out there for sure and a huge fan base. Thanks for swingin' in! - Lj
And here it is the loooong awaited Honkytonk update! And it was so worth waiting! Lots of phenomenal artists and albums brother! I´m so glad you love Exit O as much as I do (I knew you would) Thanks so much for the great shoutout. Branded Man is a great great album, I got me a copy of this at the end of last year as you may remember. What a great album this is! Yeah, can´t go wrong with early Buck! I don´t have either of the albums you showed but I´m convinced they´re all killer. Epic update Lj, hopefully it won´t take another 2 years til the next one haha. Rock on -Ben
I can't say enough good things about Earle or Exit 0. Absolutely fantastic, thank you again brother. Not sure when the next Honkytonkin' update'll hit but man was it a blast to yank out a dozen and spin em' through! When that pedal steel hits, seriously, note one, and I'm all done. I'm such a sucker for it, it just makes a good country album a great country album. Lookin' around as we speak for some things to sweeten up a package headed your way soon, I think we can make that turntable do some singin' and some honkytonkin'. Thanks for settin' some time aside to catch this and the push to get it done (finally!), hope the day is a fantastic one! - Lj
Awesum, Lj ! ! ! The Country Edition.. We live so far out in the Country, we have to use UPS once a month to ship us in some birds.. We have to pack a box lunch, when we go off to the mailbox..And can't put Mayo on the sandwich, cause those 110+ afternoons spoil the fool out of it..Beanie weenies, and fried bologna...Love it bro, you just showed me my favorites, and you can't go wrong with that bunch ! Do you have the soundtrack Merle did for Killers Three? I put some on the station awhile back..He played a Sheriff in the movie, if you had never seen, it is for sure worthwhile... Dick Clark is in it as well ! ! ! Great job, bro, thanx for posting this, have great week..KEEP PLAYING THE MUSIC !
If you can pick one up George Jones debut album on Starday is a heck of an album to pick up.I have roughly 2000 mainly country albums with 94 different Jones albums.Nice video keep them coming
All's well, just behind on all things RUclips. I have a new Boston based video in the que though and I'm thinkin' it's right time I swing by and check it out. Thanks for checkin' in brother, always good to know there's a solid set of eyes lookin' out for ya. - Lj
ok here i am commenting on one of you country vids. Just was thinking about your channel and why ive noticed a decline in uploads. haha (no pressure). seriously though. hope everythings great with the dude who was essentially the 1st vc guy i discovered. and the exhaust on your truck sounds ummmm not stock. right on. cheers bro
Whoa, I roped Brother Lee into a (gulp) country.....video! Now that's dedication! I'm totally behind in video makin' dept., no doubt. Box set review and recent finds comin' soon, time to jump back behind the wheel with ya. Thanks for checkin' in, don't blame ya if this was nothin' more n' a vehicle to check for a pulse and not necessarily an end-to-end watch for ya! Snowin' and blowin' with 12" of fresh snow on the ground, hope all's well up north! Exhaust....hmmmmmm. Ha! - Lj

Nice list of Doors favorites Miguel. Amazing band. I don't listen to them too much these days but I was huge into them in high school in the 90's. Every now and then though, I'll pull the albums out and they're a blast to spin. Jim was an absolute wildman. Not a big Gene Loves Jezebel fan but I don't not like them. I dig synth pop stuff every now and then but never really got too into them. Will check out Heavenly Bodies at some point, thanks for the tip and for tunin' in! - Lj
This is why I collect Vinyl, Great Review! Thank You!
