Congrats on the new hobby, can't think of a better one myself. Check out the "Honkytonkin'" vids on my channel for more country updates and enjoy the wax! - Lj
It was great to hear from you during Christmas day and I am so happy that you and the whole family enjoyed your holiday as well~ Rob/StillWaitingOnTheSun.....
Thanks John, really appreciate you watching. I completely understand where your coming from as I'll sometimes watch vids the same way! This one really ran long and I knew it would but I figure people can always skip around or just tune out if they want to. Thanks for the offer, I'll definitely keep you in mind if I'm having a hard time finding anything. Meanwhile, shoot me your wantlist when you have a chance so I can keep my eyes peeled for ya. Hope all's well & the holiday was a good one! - Lj
No shit. You're a champ for watchin' this all the way through. I knew this was gonna be a long one, part of the reason I kept duckin' and dodgin' it! Feels good to have it up and done though and I'm definitely lacking some Yoakum on vinyl! Time to remedy that. I have a handful of B&D cd's (and a bunch of other 90's similar stuff) I didn't bother showing. Zac Brown Band isn't bad, I've tried to warm up to them, its coming slowly. Thanks for watching, enjoy the weekend brother! Yeehaw! - Lj
Thanks! Your quite a champ just for watching through this overly long post! Glad to hear your rounding things out in the classic rock section and will be spending some time on the country side of things next. It all comes in time but we share some great common interests in great music. Mel Street's a start, only comes in waves from there! Thanks for watching, hope the holiday was a good one! - Lj
That Joe Stampley comment was probably the earliest country tinged comment anyone ever made and I remember being impressed that you had not only picked up on it but knew exactly what it was! Cool to hear your iTunes is packin some sweet southern cherry's. I couldn't agree more that its just not worth collecting all of the output since it really became singles driven as time went on. I just can't listen to late 70's/early 80's albums through like I can late 60's/early 70's stuff. Sad.
Hey Joel! Awesome to hear from you! Thanks for swinging by and checking this out! I knew it would be a long one, but it's up done and out of the way and I'm always glad to talk country! Glad to hear you dig it too although given that you were once jcashfan, I was sure you would! Thanks again for watching and dropping a comment, have a happy new year my friend and don't be a stranger! - Lj
Again, thanks much Garner. Appreciate the recommendations and knowing you sat through this. Dave, yourself, Todd and Zack have all come through with some stellar feedback and some surely killer finds to check out. As soon as I begin feeling tardy to the party, I just remember this stuff's been around for decades so its impossible to have been on time. Always learning, love the VC and its ex-peerrrr-tease. Stay safe warm and dry and enjoy a nice bit of downtime with the family. - Lj
BioCYTE1 hey man I have some good old country vinyls from Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, George Straight, Hank Sr. And a ton more let me know if you want to put in an offer and I’ll show you or if you are looking for anything in particular I can see if I have it!
Thank brother. I hoped I wasn't stepping on your toes with the text but was thinking of you and wanted to at least reach out quickly just to say hello. All had a great and tiring day, family is all well and hope the same is true on your side. Now that '13 is coming, its our year to connect at some point and spin whatever pleases the ears. Have a great day my Boston brother and thanks again for checking this one out! - Lj/StillASouthernRockBoyAtHeart
Would you consider Neil Young country? I can see a country feel in some songs but I would not label him as Outlaw Coubtry like sirius does with Cowgirl In The Sand.
Wow, now that was awesome!! I felt just like I was sitting in your music room spinning your records. There was such a coziness all over while watching this. Thanks so much for giving such an impressive overview of your collection and 60s and 70s country music in generel. I have the Ode to Billie Joe single by Bobbie Gentry, really dig that song. Guess I´ll watch this video a few more times!
Wow, glad you enjoyed it, thanks Ben! If your really getting into classic country music, I'd suggest checking out my other country vinyl finds which I've called "Honkytonkin" I think you'd enjoy them. I've picked up quite a bit more since filming this and changed things around a bit by really zeroing in on what my ears like and parted with some others. This was probably the longest video I ever posted, holy cow! If you made it through the whole thing, you deserve a prize! Thanks again for the cool comment, have a great Friday night! - Lj
BioCYTE1 Oh I know your Honkytonkin´ videos and I love ´em! Today I watched this video for the 2nd time. I watched it a while back on my smart TV so there I wasn´t able to leave a comment. Btw: cool to see you have some Kristofferson albums. Most of those I also have in my collection. The Me & Bobby McGee is one my mum already had in her collection it´s one of her all time favorite songs and it brings back lots of memories. She often used to sing and play this on the guitar when I was a kid. The only artist of the 80s I missed here was Steve Earle. Do you have any SE-records?
ryanrocks84 Oh, cool to hear you had already seen this! I have a dumb tv (i.e., no internet) but that's fine with me. I'm not very big on technology anyway. Glad you're familiar with the Honkytonkin' vids have one coming up soon after I post the VCLT video later tonight! I'm aware of Steve Earle butt don't have any on vinyl which is something I have to change this year! Love Kris's releases. Been meaning to get his latest from a few years ago but still haven't heard it. Have you?
BioCYTE1 Haha, I´m no technology-freak either. I bought this TV a month ago after to grade up my 7 year old TV station. Steve is going to release his albums Train a Coming and I Feel Alright on vinyl the 1st time since their releases in the mid 90s. Can´t wait for that. His debut Guitar Town is killer! It was my 1st album of his. Yeah, I have the latest Kris albums on MP3.I never heard them through but I had some quick listens. Far as I can say it´s only his voice and guitar. No effects used, very pure and authentic, just like he sat in the room with you. I got to get me his latest albums on vinyl too before they´re gone.
Thanks Dave for taking the time to watch though this long ass post, guide me towards some things I hadn't caught onto (as you always do) and for pushing my ass to get this done and up. Christmas was great, hope your's was as well and you got some new wax under the tree! My daughter grabbed me The Wall reissue which was just awesome. Renee and I agreed not to do anything for each other this year which is fine. Have the kids been influenced by me? Lol, just a little! Start em' young hoss, right?!
That's an amazing country collection you have ther Lj. It really shows a different side of you and very unexpected. I must admit that I like much of this stuff also and do have a few of those. This was my Dad's kind of music so it was always in the house when I was growing up and in my teens. Merle was his favorite as well as Dolly, so I still have a soft spot for they're earlier stuff. Great video!!!
Now that, is a sign of true brothers! I asked myself. If Craig shot a 40 min classical video, would I watch it. Of course...not. Lol. You know I would! I know this one ran long & knew it was going to. At the end of the day, there's lots of other vids to watch and no hard feelings. Def appreciate you tuning in and glad you're at least diggin' Johnny which theres nothing to say about that hasn't been said and said again already! Its infectious though, be careful brother...one day, you'll convert!
There are some great Country artist out there still you just have to search for them. Whitey Morgan, Jason Boland, Turnpike Troubadours, Wade Bowen, Robert Earl Keen, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Hayes Carl, Hellbound Glory...
Just found your video. Totally awesome. So glad to see BOCEPHUS in your collection. You need more country videos. What about Alan Jackson ? George strait ? Ricky skaggs ? Marty Stuart ? Buck Owens ?
2/? Like Mark {beninski707} my dad grooved on some country but I could never get into the duets about Missisippi men and woman but I did enjoy all guitar related country music. Give me Jerry Reed with Chet Atkins and I am all over it. Kris Kristofferson was great as Mace Montana in 'Big Top Pee Wee'. I also dig Cash,B Gentry and Chet was my favorite. You covered most of the older country artists here Lj. You did another spectacular job on this extended explosion of country~ Rob/Boston 2/3 Rob
Nice collection Lj. Like you, I like the late 60's to early 80's era too. That would put me at birth to 16 years old..living with my folks and this is what they listened to. Obviously grew on me. I only have 1 country lp..Mel Street's Greatest Hits but I plan on adding to my collection after I finish my classic rock.. Thanks for uploading this..so much good stuff :-)
I used to have that CW Mcall album back in the day. I think it was the followup to his megahit, Convoy. I have a few Willie albums and enjpy listening to him on occasion. If you want some really good early Dolly, check out "Coat of Many Colours" which is full of great stories from her childhood. Again, Great vid Lj!!
I've never met anyone that was familiar with CW McCall beside Convoy let alone remembers or had the Wilderness album. Really, just a great listen and so much fun. I've heard Coat of Many Colors online but will have to hunt it down on vinyl. Like many other things, the earliest material had all the best intent. Thanks so much for watching this overly long but now done and posted vid. It's been a blast getting to know you better this year and hope you had a great holiday. Now lets tackle '13! - Lj
R.E.M. did covers of 'Witchita Linemen' & 'Galveston' and they kick ass. Im a big Merle fan, I credit Merle Haggard's Christmas album and his other albums as making me the music lover and collector that I am today. Ive seen him 3 times. Im sure you know, Merle was in San Quentin when Johnny played there the first time in '58. Merle is my second biggest vinyl collection, second to Sinatra. CW McCall is a fantastic story teller, i have that Juds album signed. I love rock but i do I like country
CollectorOfMusic.....I know that name. Hope all's well my friend and the holiday was great to you both. Miss chatting with you. I had no idea R.E.M. had re-invented Wichita Lineman. There's one to check out. Merle is one I couldn't live without. Just an amazing individual, what a body of work. I'd love to complete (if that's possible) the Merle & Cash studio releases this year. A lofty goal, but they say you gotta have one. Thanks Kevin, great to hear from you brother! - Lj
Really nice vid, I'm more into honkytonk country myself but we do have a few of the same albums. Thanks for introducing to that Freddy Weller song, sounds like a response to Merle's Fightin' side of me. Great stuff!
Hey Jeremy, glad you dug it. I'm more into honkytonk type country myself and have made quite a few of those vinyl vids as well (there's a playlist of them on my channel page). Nothing brings out the country albums like summer, thanks for tunin' in! - Lj
George Jones. The man started strong as hell, love his earlier material and need to find more of it. His later shit is so common but like many other things I'll just walk on by it. Wish I stumbled on the earlier stuff more often. Big Bopper White Lightening....check!
Hi Lj - when I was a kid Hartford was not a hotbed of country music. In fact, polka was bigger. But I did learn to appreciate some country as I grew up. Interestingly, Wolverton Mountain was one of the first 45s that I ever bought. I was probably 12. I might own a dozen country and I think each one is a gem. I also own Murphy's Geronimo's Cadillac album. My musician friends and I used to play that song. Look for Jerry Reed as a villain in Burt Reynold's 'Gator'. Ha! _Marty
Man, ya got some real stinkers in yer country collection! Border Lord is one of the best Kristofferson albums. You're damn right about some Bocephus. Love his 70s stuff. Still one of the most underrated songwriters of all time.
Hey Marty! Happy holidays brother! Nice to hear from someone that not only knows but also owns some Michael Murphy. Great album. A dozen gems is a great start and enough to keep your ears busy. Its about quality over quantity! Polka? Yikes! Now there's one genre I can say I won't be making a video on anytime soon! Saw your PM, I'll drop you a note in a few. Thanks so much for watching, length got away from me on this one! Hope all's well, talk soon! - Lj
Thanks Dan, great comment. I understand what you mean completely like only another VC member could and try never to miss one of your posts. Btw, you made me wishlist Pink Moon which isn't a favorite but watching YOU talk about it made it irresistible. Any idea when Bryter Layter is due? The website says '13 but nothing specific. Hope the holiday was a good one, your a legend among legends for even checking out some of this way too long post. Its done, its up, its over! - Lj
Even when you make a video about music I am not a big fan of I can't help but watch...I think i'm addicted to your video's...but when I see a video made by BioCYTE1 I can't help but watch, man you sure know your Country hope you've had a great Christmas bro... P.S. If you need any Country just ask man cause down in the south we got all you can eat _john
Nice country collection. The only country artist that I really collect is David Coe and I am just a few records from having his whole collection on vinyl minus all of his greatest hits records. It was actually his nephew who is the singer in Pimpadelic that got me interested in David.
Cool. I have some Dwight cd's but nothing on vinyl. He's grown on me slowly, I almost never see any vinyl from him. Hank Sr. has never done much for me but listening to some more Hank III this afternoon, I can see he's more enamored with his grandaddy than his father! Dale Watson is kickin' my ass right now, Truck Drivin' Sessions needs to be released on vinyl ASAP! Thanks Dave! - Lj
2nd to last, bringin it home baby! Glad we see eye to eye with Brad Paisley. Just something about that cat has authenticity written all over it. His tune "Ol Alabama' is a favorite and there's a great video on YT with the band as they are today. Nice tribute. Dig the other recommendations with Big Sandy, Wayne Hancock, etc. Agreed that music "real" country now gets squashed beneath Blake Shelton and others which is complete bullshit. Glad you got some recommendations yourself out of this!
Thanks Marc! I'm sorry, I badly always forget if its a 'C' or a 'K'! Cool to hear you grew up with some of this stuff as well. Some of these I listen to regularly, some are just singles kind of material and good for family cookouts, etc. One year, I Dj'd all afternoon on the deck! It was fun as hell but man did it take forever to put them all away!! I see another comment! - Lj
There's definitely a few in here I could do without. Some of the later shit (Alabama, etc.) are great singles albums and have they're time and place. The real ear candy is easy to pick out. Waylon, Kris, Johnny, Merle, etc. goddamn, you just drop the needle on em' and enjoy from start to finish. Thanks for checking this out, damn this thing was long. Hope the holiday was a good one, Happy New Year my brother. - Lj
Thanks for the recommendations brother, Texas country, as you mentioned, does seem to have some southern influences creepin' in. I'm all for it and now I have a few new names to check out. Gotta love the VC, much love brother. - Lj
Mark did have some fantastic comments. I really dig alot of the stuff you mentioned (Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins, Gentry, Kristofferson). Those are the "go-to's" and the ones I'll listen to straight through for the most part. I'll keep an eye out for some of those titles and set em' aside for you when they turn up. In our area, its not always as easy to find quality country stuff as I imagine it would be further south. They're out there though....- Lj/RainRainGoAway
Slaid Cleaves and Caitlin Carey. Noted! Thanks so much for checking this horribly long video out John! I had a feeling it may run long but it's up, done, and finished! Mental note: sprinkle the stuff in over time and a 40/min update won't be necessary! Really appreciate the support and recommendations! I'll be checking them out this week for sure. Nice to hear you have some standards in the collection, never was sure if country was all that big in the UK? Ah well, TGFI! - Lj
Marty generally work well for me with his earlier material and George Strait is quite good as well. George to me was classic American country in a time when it was becoming more and more adapted for tv and commercialism. Dwight has been suggested as well and now hearing it again, I think I need to dive a bit deeper into him. Appreciate the recommendations (I'll check out Jamey as well). Thanks for watching! - Lj
Yeehaw! A slew of activity o'er here from my country brother in the Netherlands! Was hoping you'd drop by although length got away from me on this sumbitch! Sorry! I'd love to see some pics from Alabama! They're not at all spectacular but like alot of 80's country, left behind some great singles that the kids love and always get a cookout going. They suck as far as a great while lbum listen goes though and all of those were dirt cheap. Off to comments 2-10! - Lj
Appreciate the video. Love C&W but really like the same artists but have a different take on what their best stuff is. That’s what makes music so great. Enjoy it.
Thanks Garner! You're a hero if you watched this entire chat fest! I have a couple of Dwight cd's but nothing on vinyl. I don't think I have either of the two you mentioned & will add them to the ol' mighty (almighty) wish list. Patsy & I have never gotten along very well (Greatest Hits forced into my ears since childhood) but if Showcase is your recommendation, I'm willing to dive into an album (rather than a GH package) & see if it settles. Much appreciated brother, keep the coffee brewin'!
Ah Bret. Happy Holidays brother! Hank, Willie, Johnny.....so mush to love and Jerry Redd. God-damn. There's the man himself right there. There's a great video of him doing Amos Moses live at like a cookout or something on RUclips. What a character. Thanks for watching, great to hear from you, hope all's well! - Lj
I have to say that I am quite surprised to see some of the country albums thta you showed but then again I am not. Because of your attraction to Sothern Rock music I hardly had any sceptic conjectures regarding your love for country music. Did you say "obligatorily" at 12:08? Does that mean that I am kind of obligated to have a few Denver albums in my collection? OK, I will fess up, I do have 'Rocky Mountain High' in my collection. Never much dug his LP covers. More country comments~ 1/? Rob
"Ray" was a great movie. I though Jamie did a kick-ass job. EmmyLou isn't all that common here and almost never dollar bin fodder. Wish she was, I'd have more of her! When you mentioned you were heading to see Kris (weeks before I made this) I could have cried out of jealousy! What a class-act and still going strong. I'll definitely support (and thank you for) The Judds. Same as Alabama man. Some great singles that always get the party going! - Lj
Having grown up in the 90's in that rural environment I suffered through that shit playing everywhere, totally agree with what you said. Glad it didn't totally destroy my appreciation for all country. You were probably asked this earlier in the comments but what do you think about alt-country like Neko Case, 16 Horsepower, Wovenhand, Cowboy Junkies, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy/Will Oldham, Lucinda Williams, Gillian Welch, Steve Earle, Bill Callahan, Wilco, Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt, etc.?
I said "obligatory" and you said "sceptic conjectures". We're even brother! Thanks so much for checking this overly long but now shot up and done post out Rob. It was a lot of fun to run through these and I do listen to alot of them pretty regularly. They can really swing your mood if your not careful though so night time listening is best! Mr. Denver (RIP). Yep. A few are obligatory and I never dug the covers either! Yuck! I see comment two! - Lj
Yes, I actually like Darius Rucker. I remember jamming to Hootie & The Blowfish while cruising in my teenage years. He's got a new album coming out the first of next year, "True Believers". He got inducted into the Grand Ole Opry a few months back. Brad Paisley surprised him and invited him to become a member...Great moment!
as for Slaid Cleaves id recommend starting with Broke Down and Caitlin Careys Im Staying Out which has a great track called When Beauty Fades Away on it - John
Just remembered I forgot to mention Townes Van Zandt. I presume you're familiar with him but pretty much everything he released is essential. I'm done now, honest. Until you respond, so it may be better to ignore these comments.
Looks like we have quite a bit of the same vinyl, fun to see these. I pick up any Johnny I find too, have a lot of his albums even the shitastic 80's releases. The records I spin most by him are the early ones, the prison albums, and American Recordings 1-5. Can't go wrong with those. Glen Campbell's "Wichita Lineman" is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. DAC can get quite nasty, have his underground Nothing Sacred album on vinyl, that's one interesting listen, lol.
Nice collection there! Glad to finally see your Country albums. If you come across any of the Smokey and the Bandit soundtracks 1 or 2, I'm looking for a nice copy of those albums..Who is this Zack you mention? Sounds like I'd really dig his videos...Great stuff, man!
Oh I know where your tuning the radio into! I do too, especially in the colder months! I think we could work out an amicable playlist at a cookout! This years definitely had a lot of country in it but I spiked the shit out of it with southern rock. Hey, I'm the Dj, who's got an issue? Hmmm? What? Shall I play Mantovani and Manilow all afternoon ya beer swillin' free-loaders? No? Thought not ;-) Your welcome any and every time brother! - Lj
I was impressed and obsessed with "Charleston, SC 1966" for a few months a couple of years ago. I hadn't heard anything from him for a long time, mostly because I can't stand Hootie and the Blowfish, and tripped over this disc in the country section at Newbury Comics one day. It was cheap so I gave it a shot and liked what I heard. Haven't listened to it in a loo=ng time but remember it being pretty good. Have you heard it? - Lj
I watched the entire video and was surprised when you got to David Allan Coe, sadly he seems left out more often than not. David is one of my favorite country artist, his unique style of writing and singing is what I like. I remember my mom and dad listening to several of his albums in the 70's. I think my personal favorites are Human Emotions and I've got something To Say. You might like John Conlee (Miss Emily's Picture, Old School, I Don't Remember Loving You, Busted) are some of my my favorites, you might also like John Anderson, he has a lot of good tunes and some cheesy ones as well. Also a note about Wanted the Outlaws, it was country's first platinum album and the "outlaw" movement encompassed more than country. Artist like The Birds, The Flying Burrito Brothers and The Eagles were part of the movement. It was about more control by the artist as to what they were going to record, how long their songs were, if it's 1 album or double album and using their bands for studio albums. In many ways it seems a lot of what was gained has been lost.....
Hey there Michael - This was filmed quite awhile ago so I don't remember everything that was shown or said but absolutely agree re Coe. Some of his stuff is a bit over the top but on the flip side, there's a lot of really great stuff he's done and he's definitely not mentioned enough. The collection has grown and changed a lot since this was posted and I've made a few 'Honkytonkin Vinyl Updates' to share some of the new finds. There's a Conlee album or two here now, Anderson doesn't do much for me. Thanks for settin' some time aside to catch this, good chattin' with ya. - Lj
Congrats on the Buffet score Peter, that's awesome! My favorite track is Ringlin' Ringlin'. Just an awesome album overall, glad its now part of your collection! - Lj
Ok, that Jimmy Buffet album shocked the hell out of me! I was like "huh?!" There's nothing to be said about Johnny that hasn't already been said. Just damn. Playing prisons, cutting a new path in country music, the man did it all. Same fate for the prison recprds here, tricky, but not impossible, to find in nice shape. They sell for around $5/ea or so but sell fast! Merle, Bobby, David Allen Coe...now that's an afternoon of pure bliss, good beer, & plenty of piss. Eyes open for Bobby for ya!
Shit Chad! I had no clue Coe's nephew was the singer in Pimpadelic. That's badass! Congrats on nearing Coe completion! That's one killer catalog right there brother and one to be proud of. Thanks for checking the vid out, I know it ran long but what the hell. Hope all's well and the holiday was a great one! - Lj
I know your not a big Hank Jr. fan but I love it. I'm still way behind on digging into H3 and never really dug HSr much. Maybe one day it'll all click and we can have a Williams Family BBQ. Country Boy Can Survive is a great tune. I have 2-3 Hank Sr. lp's, I'll give em' a 2nd chance.
Glen Campbell , aahh that voice , my personal favourite of his is the Jimmy Webb song "Where's the Playground Suzie", im not a massive country fan but i have the basics Campbell, Cash and recently some of the modern ive started liking lsuch as Sunny Sweeney! Anyway you wanted recommendations so here's mine (im really out of touch with country so i imagine this wont be cool at all but so what!!!) Slaid Cleaves and Caitlin Carey are 2 of my favs from the last 10 years -- intresting vid Lj - John
Love me some Waylon. Like DAC, an authentic badass. I'll Google the pics of him and Buddy, sounds like a good read. I can only imagine how a comment like that could just haunt you forever. Eerie.
Different track listing but I see why. Peaks is a live album. I'll put it on as soon as I get home. I think the "Cosmic Cowboy" track is worth the price of this record alone. I got mine decades ago but its a promo.
Weirdos rhinestone line dancing in the middle of nowhere....oh John, you need a hug. No one should be exposed to that! Thanks for the recommendations! - Lj
Elvira and so many more "hits" of that era are exactly what I'm talking about. One offs, singles, no real depth but they play well at cookouts and shit and keep things rolling. Sitting alone and listening though, it's the last stuff that comes off the shelf. S'alright, that's why I bought it and CHEAP! Had a feeling you'd dig the Marty Robbins lp and remember you showing it. No Louvin Bros on vinyl yet, but the gospel lp's I do have are great listens.
This sumbitch ran way long for sure, you're the champ of all naked champs for sitting through it! Marie and Solid. It was a metaphor man, I swear. Lol. Sounds like you have your finger on the pulse of the stuff I like best as well. Keep it outlaw and anything post '80 is mostly just singles. Definitely wise to tread carefully less ye wind up with 500 slices of shitty wax! Wait, Country-rock collection? Fuck. Can I catch my breath first ;-) Thanks for watching D, hope all's well brother! - Lj
Easy on John Denver. The first couple are alright although they don't come out often. They're crowd pleasers and every now and then Renee or a little set of feet wander in here. Gotta start em' somewhere. Elvis in Memphis is freaking essential. I remember being blown back in my chair by that album and later read some well known critic writing that it and his debut were his 2 best ever. I still need to catch up on his earlier material and think I have quite a shock waiting for me when I do!
Finally got a chance to watch this, well probably will watch it in parks. I heard you didn't like Hank Sr., which is kind of the equivalent of saying you like metal but not Black Sabbath, but you're a good dude, LJ so I'll let it slide for now. My relationship with country music can be a bit love/hate since I grew up on a farm out west in a small town and it was everywhere. I've always loved the classics like Johnny, Willie, Merle, Kris, Waylon, Hank Sr., etc. though.
It was interesting seeing your collection but mine centers on earlier country. I have over 10000 lps,eps,78s,10 inch lps ,12 inch lps, scrapbooks, etc. 95 percent is in near mint condition. My kind of country is Ernest Tubb, Hank Snow, Lefty Frizzell,Buck Owens, Kitty Wells, Maddox Bros. and Rose, Carl Smith, Johnny Horton , Flatt and Scruggs, Johnny Cash, Louvin Bros., Eddy Arnold, Hank Thompson, Reno and Smiley, Roy Acuff, Blue Sky Boys, Jimmie Rodgers and a ton of others. For me, early George Jones is is honky tonk 50s recordings for Starday and Mercury. Thats my kind of country. One day I'll make a video of my collections. I also have some 60s through 80s country thoughts marginal.
We could talk and spin records all damn night! I have a handful of Hank Sr. lp's in the to donate bin. Didn't work for me. Maybe I should give him another shot. I totally need a Waylon injection! Never see him in the cheap seats around Boston. Too shi-shi. I live way out in the country where he would be if there were any damn record stores around here! Just checked out Dale Watson, holy shit! F'ing trucker country revival! Thanks for all the great feedback brother, much love from MA! - Lj
Yee Hahh! How do potnuh! Dat der be some good old picken's! Tanks fo sharing! Love two steppin' to some good old boys! Happy trails potnuh. LOL.. I am so gonna lose my brotha card. Actually, I think that happened way back when I purchased that first Wham album lol
Thanks Josh! Appreciate the feedback and your time for sitting through this seriously bloated video! I knew it was gonna run long but at the end of the day, people can watch whatever they want right? Just subbed (can't believe I wasn't already!) and sent you a link to Zach's video. Thanks for watching! - Lj
On we go with number seven and I'm lovin it so far by the way. I'll most always go Loretta over Patsy Cline everytime but I do have a couple of Patsy albums in another box of country I haven't even gone through yet. Blue Bothers Stand By Your Man, I'm sorry, is the only version I can get behind, lol! Damn tv in the 80's ruined me! Oh I have to check out the CMA video your talking about. Willie's new book "Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die", in title alone, says everything. Consummate badass.
Ah, Loretta. Like Johnny, not much to be said that hasn't been already. Those earlier Decca albums are a bitch to find in nice shape, I lucked out on those ones at a yard sale a few years ago. Dolly's "other talents" LMAO! She definitely brought some of that on herself but those earlier albums are kick-ass and I need more of em'! You'll dig Silk Purse and I'll look for a copy for ya. Easily Linda's best solo lp, pur country and a hot young brunette in the mud in a pigpen. Does life get better?
"Tackle em' one at a time son". Dad's advice when it came to women being applied to each of your comments. I see this comment was the primer, now I get to back track through them and see what the country scholar I may one day become thought and more importantly, recommends! This video got way longer than I had envisioned but the more I talked, the less I gave a shit. Looks like you stuck it out, that's my boy. Maybe I'll give the VC a rest from Lj for a day or so ;-)
You may like Marty Robbins, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Dwight Yoakum, Chris LeDoux. As for modern country: give Jamey Johnson a listen. I reccomend That Lonesome Song, Guitar Song, and Livin For A Song for his albums
Alabama is pure ear torture, I don't care what you say! I agree that those early Jimmy Buffett albums have some strong country songs on them. You'd probably like his release High Cumberland Jubilee too. Love Loretta, got the vinyl pressing of Van Lear Rose last year, one of the best country albums in forever. You don't have Phases & Stage?! Willie had some solid albums in the 90's but unfortunately they're not on vinyl. Love that truck driving country, Red Sovine especially.
country is one of my favorite genres. i just recently started collecting vinyl. I'm loving it so far!
Congrats on the new hobby, can't think of a better one myself. Check out the "Honkytonkin'" vids on my channel for more country updates and enjoy the wax! - Lj
Amazing video I get so inspire of people who talk about their favorite artists and their favorite music genre
It was great to hear from you during Christmas day and I am so happy that you and the whole family enjoyed your holiday as well~
Rob/StillWaitingOnTheSun.....
Yeehaw! - Lj
Great to see you love country music,me to,and the same kind.Don't see very many VCs on country.
Sad.
Nice collection! Much the same taste when it comes to country...Gotta love Hank Jr, Johny and Willie oh and hell yeah Jerry Reed was the bomb !!!!
- Lj
The artwork is definitely amazing. Gotta love lp's! Full blown 12"x12" artistic glory......most of the time! Thanks for watching!
I love country music
- Lj
BioCYTE1
Oh I know your Honkytonkin´ videos and I love ´em!
Have you?
BioCYTE1
Haha, I´m no technology-freak either.
I got to get me his latest albums on vinyl too before they´re gone.
we both have very similar taste in country music era and styles...
All the classics
There are some great Country artist out there still you just have to search for them. Whitey Morgan, Jason Boland, Turnpike Troubadours, Wade Bowen, Robert Earl Keen, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Hayes Carl, Hellbound Glory...
Lovin' the country records man got me excited to do my country video real cool stuff
Just found your video. Totally awesome. So glad to see BOCEPHUS in your collection. You need more country videos. What about Alan Jackson ? George strait ? Ricky skaggs ? Marty Stuart ? Buck Owens ?
Very cool. Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for checking it out. Now go build a playlist and let those southern vibes set in ;-) - Lj

You did another spectacular job on this extended explosion of country~

Rob
Nice collection Lj. Like you, I like the late 60's to early 80's era too. That would put me at birth to 16 years old..living with my folks and this is what they listened to. Obviously grew on me. I only have 1 country lp..Mel Street's Greatest Hits but I plan on adding to my collection after I finish my classic rock.. Thanks for uploading this..so much good stuff :-)
Nice collection
- Lj
Thanks for the comment, recommendations and links. I'll definitely add them to the list to keep an eye out for. Thanks for checkin' this out! - Lj
R.E.M. did covers of 'Witchita Linemen' & 'Galveston' and they kick ass.
Don Williams "Country Boy" is the first country album I listened to - still love it. By the way, you've got an awesome collection.
Don Williams and classic country in general...they just don't make em' like that anymore. Glad ya dug it, thanks for swingin' in! - Lj
Thanks Zach, likewise to you, lots of great recommendations in yours, a top ten for me. Stay warm. - Lj
- Lj
Thanks Kasey! Glad you dug it and got inspired to go dig it! Lookin' forward to the post!
- Lj
What do you think about Darius Rucker (AKA) Hootie's Country stuff he's been coming out with the past few years?
- Lj
Impressive collection but I would invest in sleeves to keep the covers looking nice.
More country comments~
1/?
Rob
LMAO! I howled all the way through that comment! Seriously, some great humor there and thanks for watching (and the laugh!!) - Lj
Very cool Rob, great minds think alike! - Lj
I'm not much of a country music fan, but i really enjoyed this video. Definitely gonna DL a few songs. Thank you! :D
as for Slaid Cleaves id recommend starting with Broke Down and Caitlin Careys Im Staying Out which has a great track called When Beauty Fades Away on it - John
Thanks Trish, Happy New Year! - Lj
Just remembered I forgot to mention Townes Van Zandt. I presume you're familiar with him but pretty much everything he released is essential. I'm done now, honest. Until you respond, so it may be better to ignore these comments.
Amazing album, you have to get it
Looks like we have quite a bit of the same vinyl, fun to see these.
- Lj
Some nice albums there. All those DAC are good records but you need to get some of the earlier records to really hear his best.
- Lj
I have the same EQ as you have but mine s branded technics.
- Lj
Lj---did u ever hear the david allan coe and pantera album ? well- minus phil...rebel meets rebel was the name and it is great...-gary/texas
- Lj
Love this collection
Next video on deck!
