Was recently shown this by one of my best friends. I LITERALLY cried, and have been shaken to the core by this piece, both the original and this arrangement. I LOVE THIS!!!!
The music really captures the essence of brass - the layering and resonance. I haven't played in an ensemble since 1980 DCI Finals but arrangements like this were the reason I played and what I miss most about playing. Unfortunately there is no other place where one can be part of a talented, well disciplined, and powerful horn line than in a drum corps. Not to disparage today's corps but with music like this why does anyone need electronics, singing and spoken words?
I captured the whole warmup, but royally screwed up the audio on this amazing rep (my biggest regret in 5 years of this project). So instead of trying to juggle a complex edit w/ varying levels of audio quality, I decided to just expedite this small segment so people who haven't heard it know their exhibition performance at DCI Finals this coming Saturday is truly one of the highlights of drum corps this year.
So dark, so rich, so warm...simply and utterly fantastic! Reminds me of that sound that first caused me to fall in love with corps in the early 90's. Absolutely beautiful.
Oh my...I was brought to tears. So dark, so rich, so warm, and absolutely gorgeous. Here's a little reminder of that tone that caused so many to fall in love with drum corps. Thank you for keeping the G Bugle relevant!
Gorgeous! Looking forward to any other vids coming down the pipeline. Overwhelmed with Flo’s ridiculous number of drumline vids, and much less pit and hornline coverage.
Good Lord that G Bugle sound just cannot be replicated... I marched DCI 87-92 on G bugles (2 AND 3 valve) and then most recently in 2016-2019 on Bb with an all age corps in the UK... What I can say is that it is a hell of a lot easier to play loud with that wide open conical bore the G bugles have. On Bb I simply cannot play as loud. Back in the 80's-90's average Open Class (now World Class) hornlines were between 62-68 brass. These days its a MINIMUM of 72 all the way up to the mid 80's. Granted corps sizes have incresed from 128 to 155, but I think you NEED all the extra brass players to simply replicate the volume.... What modern lines can NOT replicate is that rich, dark, punch you in the gut POWER sound of G. I promise you I am not ragging on modern corps.. I actually prefer todays show to back in the day... my comments are simply saying it as I see it.
I need a 20 minute video of this
This is when I love RUclips's "Loop" feature
The only Hornline that Crown Brass will always look at and say "we should be more like them."
Yes! The power of real buGles in the hands of men and women that know how to play 'em! Semper Fi!

I could listen to that all day. And that last cord....

I never got into dci until 2015 and never experienced anything with g bugles but I can’t stop listening to this it’s so good and sounds so powerful
Wow why is this only a minute? My ears haven’t bled this way in a long time

Incredible! Oh how miss that sound! That was absolutely fantastic.
G Bugles!!!! The power that can't be stopped or recreated with synthesizers. Thank you to the Commandant's Own for keeping this sound alive!

Hey Jeff, the USM D&BC only just switched from 2 to 3 Valve in Feb 2022. And they Remained/Continued to play G Bugles, thank goodness :)
Just wanted to point out that there are fewer holes in this sound than most DCI hornlines can manage.
Oh man those overtones though!
G FORCE BABY!!
That last chord gets me everytime 😩
Yes, Courtney!!!!!!!
YES COURTNEY!!! 💚❤️
There should definitely be a lot more lot videos of them because this is amazing
YES G BUGLES! Semper Fi!
Damn. G bugles, that is some raw power. What an awesome sound. Bruckner perhaps?
God I wish they'd hold that last note longer

A corps needs to bring back G bugles. Is there any rule against it in DCI?
Could you post of the Commandants own? They sound too good.
that release tho
Please tell me there's music somewhere for this. This is beautiful!
is it okay to cry
Corps-tney!!!!!!
Marines have best drum corps out of all military forces. Would like to know what drum corps these young horn players marched with 👍👏🍻

that last chord tho
Does anyone the the names of the notes on the very last chord
Contras play a F, euphs play a C, altos play C, and sopranos play A (concert pitch)
Now that’s a real drum corps sound. G bugles all the way
