Scorpions were formed in (West) Germany, and opted to sing English songs to appeal to bigger audiences, rather than German... they became huge fans of 50's and 60's rock n' roll music when they decided to start playing music in their city of Hanover.
Originally formed as a 'beat rock' combo in 1965 by guitarist Rudolf Schenker (who sang lead), he became close friends w/ a local singer Klaus Meine, who was in another band at the time... When Klaus' band needed a lead guitarist, Rudolf recommended his 14 yr old brother Michael Schenker, who was already an accomplished musician as a kid... Around 1970, Klaus' band broke up... so Rudolf suggested that both Klaus and Michael join the Scorpions; Klaus Meine became the lead singer and Michael Schenker wrote the music for the Scorpions' first album 'Lonesome crow' in 1972, which was a trippy 'space rock' record... In 1973, Michael Schenker left to join the UK band U.F.O. and became a guitar hero.
Rather than give up, Klaus (vocals) and Rudolf (guitar) reformed the Scorpions in 1974 w/ lead guitarist Ulrich Roth (now Uli Jon Roth) and Francis Buccholz (bass)... they released a few studio albums in the 70's, but were limited to touring Europe only. Herman Rarebell (drums) joined in 1977 and their album 'Taken by force' went gold in Japan. Touring Asia for the first time, the Scorpions also secured new management and record deal... but Roth soon left the band and lead guitarist Michael Schenker returned briefly in 1978, but left soon after... Matthias Jabs (lead guitar) joined the band in 1979 as the Scorpions played N. America for the first time and scored a gold-selling album - 'Lovedrive' in the US... and then, a platinum record 'Animal magnetism' in 1980.
In 1981, singer Klaus Meine developed vocal polyps and needed surgery... after months of recovery, he returned to the Scorpions as they released their biggest albums 'Blackout' (1982) and 'Love at first sting' (1984)... "Still loving you" is one of their biggest singles from '84. Scorpions were playing arenas by 1988 and became the first German rock band to play the USSR on that tour. In 1990, their ballad 'Wind of change' was followed by the reunification of East & West Germany after being separated after World War II.
In the 90's, the Scorpions found their popularity declining... Francis Buccholz and Herman Rarebell left the band by 1995, replaced by Ralph Rieckerman (bass) and James Kottak (drums)... but they carried on recording new music and touring until fans started coming around by 2007... Pawel Maciwoda (bass) had joined in 2004. The Scorpions considered retiring after the 2010 album 'Sting of the tail'... but their popular demand was still high, so the band carried on recording & touring... Mikkey Dee (drums) joined in 2016. Their latest album from 2022 is 'Rock believer'.
Scorpions have both hard rock songs that appeal to the boys... 'Rock you like a hurricane'... 'No one like you'... 'The Zoo'... 'Rhythm of love'... "Speedy's coming"... 🤘🤘🔥🔥
and ballads to bring in the ladies... 'Believe in love'... 'Holiday'... 'In trance'... 'Wind of change'... 'Send me an angel'... 'Woman'... 🔥🔥

Saw them twice live - once in 1980 so thankful. A daily playlist banger from them is Holliday and The Zoo is nice and mean... Such a great band from Germany. Imagine singing that good as a second language!

That outro solo is played by Rudolph Schenker, who usually just does rhythm guitar. His brother is Michael Schenker though so there's that. Michael was in Scorpions for a awhile, but moved onto UFO and his solo stuff. Scorpions always have killer guitarists. Check out their earlier stuff. Uli Roth tearing it up on Sails of Charon if epic.
