Pretty awesome, isn't it!! Shows that good music is universal! I love her analysis - and there is something special on hearing some of your favourite songs played on a harp!!
It suddenly dawned on me, while i was watching this video, that i am no longer watching this channel for the reactions. I am now being educated by a teacher. I am learning a new appreciation for songs i have been hearing for many years through the explanations and demonstrations from Amy. I am also gaining new understanding and appreciation for tunes i was not overly fond of too. I will be back for the next lesson with eager anticipation.
Amy is an amazing teacher. I’ll never quite look or listen to any song quite the same way as I have in the past. I have a YC88 key board with a multitude of sounds. I’ll going back to re-due some pieces with more changes in layering. Thanks Amy.
Can we just take a moment to recognize what an amazing voice he has, he sounds every bit as good live as in the studio. Just a handful of singers in the world can claim this.
What is even more amazing is that this is after the vocal cord surgery during the making of the prior album Blackout. The initial tracks were done with Don Dokken on lead vocal. It wasn't clear at the time if Klaus would ever be able to sing again at all, let alone as well as he did previously. What an amazing recovery and rehabilitation, that his voice post surgery was even stronger and better than before. Amazing! The rest is history, as they say.
Seeing him live and hearing the effects on his voice on the studio recording is how I learned that recording doesn't capture everything that the voice can do.
@mikepaulus4766 I was surprised how low and less nasal he sounded live. A fantastic singer that just can't be captured with any recordings I've heard.
My favourite fun fact about this song is that it's release caused a baby boom in France. This was actually verified in a study by the French government
I saw them live about five years ago. They were performing in a small town next to my hometown in Finland at a local football pitch. I wasn't really expecting much. I thought it was gonna be some sad old geezers who would maybe sound a bit like what they used to sound like in the 80s and early 90s. Boy, was I surprised! Even tough they were already in their seventies, they looked like they were in their early fifties, they moved around the stage like they were in their late twenties and they sounded better live than they ever have sounded on record! I was truly blown away. And even when it started raining in the middle of the gig, the audience stayed there in the muddy field, cheering and singing along to their beautiful songs.
I had the pleasure of meeting the band, and Michael as well in NYC in 1985. They stayed at the hotel where I worked while they were promoting World Wide Live. One day coming in from the train to work I saw Klaus walking ahead of me, black leather from head to toe in the sweltering July city heat no less!. I caught up to him and explained who I was, and we walked together to the hotel talking about the band and the tour. I'll never forget that walk! I was able to meet them all together as they left and got autographs, because I had kept my promise to my manager not to pester them during their stay! Amazing musicians and people!
Said this before, 2 points about this song, 1. Klaus Meine, the singer, has been married since 1976 (!) and 2. he wrote the lyrics, almost certainly autobiographical and all the better for it.
So I am expanding across so many boundaries. I am a black man, listening to a heavy metal song being analyzed by a Classical music harpist and I am not thrown so far off because we are all making this effort to connect to a piece of music together. Her thinking of this, from her very unique perspective, adding her extensively knowledge to this is composition is beyond fascinating. Seeing her dainty and delicate self, her timeless pearls and lithe fingers extrapolating the notes is such a universal vibe to me. I could honestly say, I could have a conversation with anyone who is trying this deftly to understand someone or something outside of their normal space.
Very well said. I’m a white woman who grew up to this song and I’m still fascinated by this and her. One of the most respectful, intelligent, educated and talented channels I’ve ever seen. She’s a gem. And good luck to you on your rock history! The 80’s are great but the 90’s are my favorite!
I too find something mildly arousing about her deft, congenial, comprehensive analyses. I mean, I too, like her thorough musical investigations. I jest people, chill out.
i love watching the nuances of someone who truly understands music in all it's glory. the eyebrow lift, the rise and dip of the hand and body it just amazes me everytime.
Beautiful, tragic, honest, irresistible longing, a guitar screaming out in pain....... It's like this song never really ends, because I'm dragged into it's state of mind all over again every time I hear it....... So exquisitely unsatisfying! It is uncanny what music can be capable of when it is in the hands of people who know how it works.........
Scorpions are one of my favorite bands of all time and their live performances were and still are absolutely one of the best ever. Klaus Meine has an incredible voice and the band really delivers on every level.
I've always really liked this song, but I just loved the way that you got into it, developed it and fell in love with it too. I love hearing you on the harp, that was epic.
It is pieces like "Still Loving You" that makes us 40+ year old listeners ache for the days of the old bands. Can you imagine a modern band releasing a track with so much soft parts as in this? Or such a simplistic bass-line as The Scorpions' "The Zoo"?
I was a teenager when this came out, and this song's beauty used to draw tears out of my eyes. They came out again, listening to Amy play the beautiful moments over and over. Thank you 😍😍
Im 42 years old now and when i was a little child around the age of six or seven years old, i listened to this song on a cassette tape, when i played with legos in my room on rainy days. Great memories of worry-free days. Ohhh the lovelyness of your harp play of this songs melody. Love it!.
Best episode yet! Watching Amy rock out as much as she's ever done before is the big payoff, the major reason I subscribed and watch regularly. ROCK ON AMY!
I've listened to this song hundreds of times over the course of five decades. And yet I still heard something new with this video. Thank you, Amy, great analysis!
This is one of those songs that the live version (off of "World Wide Live") is really the best version. One thing to keep in mind about early hard rock and metal singers is that they weren't all rough and growly like today, they were often almost operatic. Singers like Klaus Meine (this singer) or Ronnie James Dio, or Rob Halford or Steve Perry (and many others). They were usually singers with a lot of power and a lot of range in their singing (something that I actually feel like is lost in today's metal where its more about who can growl the best). The idea was to have a singer who could hold his own against the loud music and "virtuoso" guitarists.
It's so nice to see someone being genuinely moved by this song. I'm 52 now and I remember being a big Scorpions fan back in the days in Germany. They are among the very best when it comes to rock ballads. I don't know the first thing about musics technicalities, but this song is so full of surprises, full of emotions, it evokes real feelings and makes you think. Thank you very much for bringing this song, this mood and this feeling back after all those years.
You probably already know ; you are quite pretty. and that you are a very talented and influential musician. Thank you for your incredible demonstrations with the Harp.
it‘s 1986 me 16 years old, when I heard this song for first time. Immediately I was a big fan of the Scorpions and I heard this album hundred of times, great memories for me.
My personal interpretation of the lyrics: "dude cheated, girl broke up, dude regretted and is now trying to win her back, but she isn't getting none of it."
This song should be dedicated to all people who, without it, would never have been born. It is one of the most famous slow-dancing songs in the world, and one of the most effective! At that time, everyone was waiting for it at dance parties. This couldn't have worked with songs like Child In Time or Stairway To Heaven cause the end can't be danced on. Scorpions knew what they were doing for both music and lyrics. Closer, tighter, cheek to cheek then... nine months later 😊
Ok, I’m tripping out on Amy. I watched her Doors video on “When the Musics Over” and she must be around my age (40’s). I never thought I’d be watching ANYONE sitting in a studio full of harps, etc that didn’t know The Doors and also would be playing a Scorpions song on her harp. I am a guitar player and understand all the theory as she plays (non musicians might not) so that is very interesting to me. RUclips is seriously wonderful for music and many other things. I did not know there were people like Amy in the western world that didn’t know these bands and this music. Ok, Amy, u got me! I’m subscribing…..:) P.S. your facial expressions are fun to watch. I think u really liked this one.
The Sails of Charon! Great song with Uli on guitar. I think, just the guitar intro would lead us to 20 Minutes of analysis.. that should be your next Scorpions song…
Scorpions are the top of live performance in arena Rock. They are all masters of their craft and it shows! Klaus the vocalist has a fantastic range, with clarity and richness of the voice. Rudy the guitarist projects the tones most pleasing to the ear. This band is world class and loved everywhere.
Oh my gosh, a 50 minute reaction to my favourite band? Just stumbled over your channel and already love it. I admit I have not the slightest idea about musical theory and can't read notes, but it was still really fascinating to listen to you dissect the song, and watch the joy on your face as you discovered this wonderufl piece of music. And if you ask me, this is not even their best song, even if it's one of their most known ones. Neither is Wind of Change. If I had to choose from that incredible amount of incredible songs, I would probably choose In Trance, and We'll burn the Sky. Those songs just blow you out of the water. Especially the older live versions. Thank you for this video :) I really enjoyed it and sent the link to a fellow Scorpions junkie.
Great analysis of what has to be my #1 power ballad of the 80's! I've always loved how this song builds, Klaus' vocals (going from very soft & almost a whisper, to the powerful, soulful belt we know and love). I would highly recommend The Sails Of Charon as another Scorpions reaction/review. It's more steeped in their 70's sound (a bit more progressive, but still rock/metal). Love your channel.
I love all the Scorpions music, but my absolute favourites are their power ballads. They are so beautifully composed and realised. This might just be my favourite reaction that you have done. I am super stoked that you appreciate it so much!
I have a son that just graduated high school that was conceived to that song. That's a true story, I could go into more detail but probably not necessarily. Lol. Ended up married
😂 It was actually written about the Berlin Wall, and the people who were on each side of the Wall, the star crossed lovers were a metaphor for the future reunification of Germany.
Scorpions are a top band, but still underrated... this maybe the reason why almost all metal band have their "soft" moments. There are very well know for their ballads, but for me they have much more to offer.
The Beatles wrote the song, " My Guitar Gently Weeps"; however, the Scorpions (entire discography) put that song title/terminology/meaning into a Masterclass of Epic Proportions!
❤Absolutely loved this!❤ Thank you! Welcome to your first 'power ballad'. Maybe the best of all time. Scorpions were my favorite band during my teen years! This style of song composition became widely copied and heavily used during this era. In large part due to it being a format that was more radio friendly/accessible for a hard rock/metal artist and appealed just as much or more to female gender as well. Record companies liked the power ballads because they were more likely to be successful hits. Guys liked them because the girls liked them and helped create common ground musically and, of course, also helped to set the proper mood. I've seen the.Scorpions live multiple times, but my favorite was always this tour, which was recorded and later released as the album World Wide Live. I was just 15, almost 16 at the time. It sounds silly, but as I watched your reaction and listened to your comments, I found myself moving between joyful tears and celebratory fist pumps. I feel music so strongly that it's hard to find others who can appreciate and experience it on the same level. Of course, you also understand it and are able to express it from a compositional perspective, better than I could. I'm so glad you recognized the greatness of it and that you enjoyed it so much. I'm curious, if you had listened to this much earlier in your musical journey when you were still adjusting to the sound of rock guitars and other instrumentation, would you still have been able to enjoy this as much? I think you are now able to recognize this more like a strong dramatic movement in a classical piece. Some people actually come to the conclusion that you can actually draw some strong similarities between the two. You've come so far. It's been quite a fun journey to take with you. Thank you.
Still one of my favourite songs of all time. I had 2 speeding tickets because of the scorpions. They used to play Holiday on the radio back then and for some reason I just sped up listening to it. They owe me money!!!
I enjoy the Scorpions, and Winds of Change is one of my favourites. A fun fact is that the band did consider retiring , and did actually stop for about 12 months then they started again. They released the most recent studio album in 2022.
This was the song that made me fall in love with rock when I was a kid. And the craziest thing is: the version I used to know was the one with the fadeout on the start of that repeat before the solo, so CAN YOU IMAGINE how blown off my head got years latter when I heard the solo for the first time????? I can't even explain
The first time I heard this song I was going on Christmas leave from the army and I smoked pot for the first time sitting in the barracks waiting on my ride to the airport. It’s been a favorite ever since. Good times
I discovered Scorpions in 1980, they became my favorite band and still remain. This song, I believe, was a love song to East Germany. "....break down the wall someday, I will be there", And they were there when that wall came down. I am so happy for you that you discovered this song and this band, they are a force for good, as are you.
I love your enthusiasm Amy. I'm just again amazed how long you can go into this song without commenting on one of the most unique voices in Rock. I know you're focused on the music, but hardly no one does not react immediately to that voice right from the get go...
One of my favorite songs ever made. It's such a crescendo, such a ride. It's amazing in a great car stereo as well. I can't imagine how they felt in the studio when they were finishing this. They have said this song solely was so popular that it may have increased the population of the country of France.
I love the Scorpions. They really rock. And this song. It really hits my heart. The crying guitar solos just bring the feeling flowing every time. I would never call them metal, but hard rockers 100% for sure. None the less. They are an awesome band. This song is what really put the Power into Power Ballads.
The song is also considered a thinly veiled metaphor for a still divided Eastern & Western Germany. "Your pride has built a wall so strong that I can't get through, is there really no chance to start once again?" and "Yes, I've hurt your pride, and I know what you've been through, you should give me a chance, this can't be the end, I'm still loving you" were clear references to the Berlin Wall and the despair many Germans felt about their divided homeland.
You've come such a long way since you began your rock journey last year! It feels like you're really starting to understand the "language" of rock music. Your channel is similar to that of one learning a new language. You're finding how to translate your native language of "classical music" into that of "rock music", and as a "native speaker" of rock music myself, it's impressive to witness your journey to fluency!
When you do go down the road of the Scorpions library you're going to be amazed with the progression and style changes in each album. Not to mention discovering the talents of three incredible lead guitarist Michael Schenker, Uli Jon Roth, and Mathias Jabs.
@@Tzunamii777 - I have been trying to. I bought a couple of new guitars/amp/etc a couple of years go and try to practice when I have time. Too much work and other life tasks get in my way too much .. LOL .. still working on it though.
Scorpions were the pointiest rock. Sharp as a razor, with very little warmth to their production sound; they punched through on the radio like nobody else.
Well Amy... you just got there one of the GREATEST, STUPENDOUS BANDS in rock history... I absolutely love Scorpions, is one of those bands that should have never ended, EVEN better than "THE ROLLING STONES" the forever band (still rocking in their 80's), Stones are great but Scorpions even better. I am positive this would be one of your bands for ever and most of their songs will be in your play list, that is what I call a GREAT rock music.
I welcome the nuances you tease out and display before our wondering ears, but I am still here for the reactions; your "That's *beautiful*!" really made me smile, and I could see it in your face before you stopped to say it. :)
Well Amy, you can sleep free of angst...that was a guitar! And later on 2 guitars. I very much enjoyed this, I am learning, from you, perspectives, view points that I hadn't come to without your reaction. It is a beautiful and great song, I've heard it before and will enjoy listening to it in the future, for sure, although I have a few critiques. The Scorpions are off my radar screen. I know of the band, I know their big hits and I've even watched a few RUclipss about the band. I don't have their albums. This song sounds impressive, it is impressive on the strength of the voice and I thought that the voice carried the entire song but later in it becomes quite a guitar centric song as well. It is both a ballad and an anthem. I can just imagine the very strong speakers in a large dark-ish arena ringing this song around and people holding their lit BIC lighters or cell phone flashlights in their arm swinging it from left to right along with the music. And there's nothing wrong with that. The song does suffer from some profound 80's quirks! It sounds very clinical (maybe because they're German, Oops!) It is also quite over-engineered in the studio and while sounding very impressive, after some time it starts to sound typical 80's "sappy." I still think it's a great song but for these reasons it is also profoundly not the greatness of, let's say, The Rolling Stones, or Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and the likes. Great video, thank you guys again.
Thanks for this wonderful reaction and analysis. The Scorpions are one of my absolute favorite bands, together with the Beatles and Pink Floyd. I'd be glad if you include some more of their music on your channel. Some songs I'd recommend to you are: Fly To The Rainbow (a 9-minute psychedelic rock piece) The Sails of Charon (a heavier song with a neoclassical guitar solo that influenced Yngwie Malmsteen a lot) We'll Burn The Sky (a 6 and a half-minute piece, Uli Jon Roth, their lead guitarists at that time, once decribed as a sort of mini symphony) Holiday (another beautiful ballad) Blackout, Rock You Like A Hurricane (classic Heavy Metal) And while a lot of Scorpions fans don't like it as it goes more into a pop rock direction, Wind of Change is still a beautiful song.
To the "fans" that dislike Wind of Change: This song is historical in meaning, not just to the band, but to the world. Who cares if it sounds like pop music. The importance of a West German band singing about being in Russia, on the other side of the wall, is absolutely amazingly historic in scope. The song basically helped to define the end of the Cold War. 51:25
Honestly, I want to know how lucky someone is to wait until their early 30s to then experience - at their leisure - 60 years of the greatest Rock music. It reminds of when living in Shanghai in the early 2000s. All the world's great musicals began showing up 2 or 3 per year. The Shanghainese just soaked it up like it was business as usual, only it wasn't. Now Amy sits down and gets to sample, for the first time, all the great rock acts. Amazing.
Scorpions are the kings of 80s metal ballads. All of their ballads are basically anthems. Even if you’ve never heard their music it sounds very familiar.
I will never listen to this song the same way I did before, because now both, the song and I have changed forever. Thank you, Amy.
Ikr. I'm glad I stumble upon her channel.
I did not think I would be watching a classical musician deconstruct a scorpions song (with a harp!) but here we are. I love the internet.
I know man it's weird and educational at the same time.
It IS bizarre, but so refreshingly welcome.
I so agree! ( but what the hell I give it a chance!)
Pretty awesome, isn't it!! Shows that good music is universal!
I love her analysis - and there is something special on hearing some of your favourite songs played on a harp!!
Yeah, this is crazy and it’s great!
You and The Charismatic Voice would be a good collab. You dissecting the music, while she dissects the vocals.
YES!!!!!! I would definitely watch that.
I enjoy watching both
Definitely
Don’t leave out the daily Doug. The three have interviewed each other now its time to join up like a Voltron

He also still sounds great after losing his voice and having two vocal chord surgeries

Oui. C'est vrai, mon vieux.
So... 9 month countdown starts now!
😂😂😂😂😂
That,umm.... that was me😊
After listening to that song, i could'nt help myself, sorry !
finally someone who knows the music. I'm tired of the people reaction videos with no clue of what they're listening !
Have you heard that guitar speaking ? That is Scorpions magic.
I saw them live about five years ago. They were performing in a small town next to my hometown in Finland at a local football pitch. I wasn't really expecting much. Finland? Man you're surrounded by the best bands on planet Earth
She listened to it once, and then replays it on the harp minutes later. That’s impressive!!!!!
She has the sheet music, it's the least to expect from a music teacher to sight-read this ; )
All my favorite reactions are from people who love music all the way down to it's fundamental construction. Music is life
As a guitar player of 35 years ... I all the sudden want a harp.... that riff is beautiful.

She's almost head banging. Couple more songs and she'll get there.
In my opinion, the best rock ballad ever composed.
I agree....how many songs end on the chorus? Not just a great song but unique as well.
I'm a huge Zeppelin fan, among other bands, and I absolutely agree!
Yes top 2 all-time Rock ballads , check Led Zeppelin "Baby I'm gonna leave you",it will bring you to tears and climbing emotional scales
Beautiful, tragic, honest, irresistible longing, a guitar screaming out in pain....... It's like this song never really ends, because I'm dragged into it's state of mind all over again every time I hear it....... So exquisitely unsatisfying!

Hands down, the best rock ballad of the 80s. Beautiful heartfelt vocals and Amazing guitar work. Timeless.
My personal interpretation of the lyrics: "dude cheated, girl broke up, dude regretted and is now trying to win her back, but she isn't getting none of it."
Yes you played that piece SPOT ON… ✨😉🇦🇺👏👏👏
Still Loving You is THE BEST power ballad in the history of mankind. No other comes even close to it.
Their songs, also ballads, Send Me an Angel and Winds of Change are also great songs. 🤘
🎵 The greatest rock ballad of all time! ❤

I did not know there were people like Amy in the western world that didn’t know these bands and this music. Ok, Amy, u got me! I’m subscribing…..:) P.S. your facial expressions are fun to watch. I think u really liked this one.
the word you are looking for is passion. it was on the tip of your tongue
Klaus is one of the greatest Rock Balladeers ever.
I learn so much about songs that I've listen to for 30, 40, 50 years on this channel. Thank you for doing what you do!
She's pulls out the harp and says "something like that" and yet it's absolutely note for note perfect. Humility, I love it. This song is timeless.
Scorpions, while a hard band, also had some of the best ballads in metal ever. Those songs are still fantastic.
The definitive power ballad of rock 👏🏼👏🏼
Such a detailed look at a quite simple song. Still loving YES
When I was stationed in Germany, I lived in the barracks. When I listened to the Scorpions, so did everybody else. Soooo good.
Omg, I think I saw Amy doing a “stink face” to that blues guitar break. 😁👏
There’s no going back now!
Thank you.
Thank you for sharing this Joel. Well said!
Wow dude, that's kind of how I felt when the Scorpions opened for Pink Floyd the wall, Berlin 1990. Awesome
Still one of my favourite songs of all time. I had 2 speeding tickets because of the scorpions. They used to play Holiday on the radio back then and for some reason I just sped up listening to it. They owe me money!!!
I've listened to this for a long time but now at least I have some understanding of how the music works, and so, greater appreciation.
Yeah, extra pleasure!
Scorpions are so good, the lead singer is great. They had some good stuff in the 1970's as well.
The first time I heard this song I was going on Christmas leave from the army and I smoked pot for the first time sitting in the barracks waiting on my ride to the airport. It’s been a favorite ever since. Good times
One of the best ballad ever written
There is a rock girl living inside you, just admit it. Great to watch. Thank you.
I discovered Scorpions in 1980, they became my favorite band and still remain. This song, I believe, was a love song to East Germany. "....break down the wall someday, I will be there", And they were there when that wall came down. I am so happy for you that you discovered this song and this band, they are a force for good, as are you.
Klaus' Voice is so absolutely amazing.
It is. Hes a very accomplished singer
This is the quintessential rock 'n roll power ballad.
I love your reaction/discovery of this song. Their 1979 song "Holiday" is similarly structured.
Holiday is another great song.
I love your enthusiasm Amy. I'm just again amazed how long you can go into this song without commenting on one of the most unique voices in Rock. I know you're focused on the music, but hardly no one does not react immediately to that voice right from the get go...
So true - my favourite singer ever. Incredible voice.
Two more german 70th songs - I suppose - that may surprise you: Am Fenster by City and Die Tänzerin by Ulla Meinecke
Great suggestion for her..
For me, the single word in English that best describes the feeling this song imparts is "longing". The singer longs for the person he loves.
I used to play the guitar parts of this song for years. Had it down pretty well perfect for a long time. I really like this song.
I hope you pick it up again 👍
Another beautiful Scorpions ballad is "Lady Starlight" put it on your list. You will love it!
Right after When The Smoke Is Going Down ;)
@@nassirmreyoud4415and Holiday 😉
The Scorpions are the greatest band to ever come out of Germany.
Rammstein is way greater...

I wonder what she'd think of Kraftwerk
I could not agree with more!
Scorpions have the best rock ballads. Cheers 🍻
29:09 Do you recognize how distant this guitar sounds?
Like 5 miles away or so - and the did that live in the 80's!
So goosebumps!
My god would I love to hear you play this on harp with Klaus singing!!
Another beautiful song by the scorpions is always somewhere 😊
Sails of Charon is the Scorpions track that really blew me away when ran across it 3 years ago for the first time.
I welcome the nuances you tease out and display before our wondering ears, but I am still here for the reactions; your "That's *beautiful*!" really made me smile, and I could see it in your face before you stopped to say it. :)
Well Amy,
you can sleep free of angst...that was a guitar!
It sounds very clinical (maybe because they're German, Oops!) It is also quite over-engineered in the studio and while sounding very impressive, after some time it starts to sound typical 80's "sappy."
I still think it's a great song but for these reasons it is also profoundly not the greatness of, let's say, The Rolling Stones, or Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and the likes.
Great video, thank you guys again.
Thanks for this wonderful reaction and analysis. The Scorpions are one of my absolute favorite bands, together with the Beatles and Pink Floyd. I'd be glad if you include some more of their music on your channel. Some songs I'd recommend to you are:
Fly To The Rainbow (a 9-minute psychedelic rock piece)
The Sails of Charon (a heavier song with a neoclassical guitar solo that influenced Yngwie Malmsteen a lot)
We'll Burn The Sky (a 6 and a half-minute piece, Uli Jon Roth, their lead guitarists at that time, once decribed as a sort of mini symphony)
Holiday (another beautiful ballad)
Blackout, Rock You Like A Hurricane (classic Heavy Metal)
And while a lot of Scorpions fans don't like it as it goes more into a pop rock direction, Wind of Change is still a beautiful song.
aahh, Yngwie should be a good video for this lady.
Neoclassical metal.
hi, this was my wedding song every year 1988 to 2023. thanks for the breakdown.
Never ever did I think about this melody on the harp. Thank you.
Thank so so much for the explanation. I always felt attracted to the intro not knowing what was about it that drew me in❤
One of the best "rock" song ever written.
