Regine's voice is thicker, a lot deeper, much feelings and emotions. She belts out without much struggles, she hits the note accurately, not as if she's climbing to reach there just like sohyang. Regine's high notes are still comfy to listen to unlike the other one who's screaming and struggling which tends to be annoyong, while regine belts it all with ease.
Regine has her Proteges (Children): Jona, Angge, Mori, Katrina, Aicelle, Julie Ann, and so on. You have to go through them first before you can battle the Queen.

I’m a vocal coach and I personally pick Regine. I studied both vocals and asked my students which of the ladies they are more comfortable to listen with and showing them different videos including Regine's raw and HD videos and SoHyang’s raw and HD videos.. most of them picked Regine. It’s a matter of preference people. But as a vocal coach, Regine’s voice is much okay to listen for me.. she has this heavy belts and lovely tone that is good to listen with. Sohyang has power too and great technique. I just prefer Regine, talking about overall technique, it will take us for about a couple of weeks to come up with the conclusion why Regine is better. Kudos to these Asians.

I made my honest judgement and out of 11 songs, Regine from Philippines slayed 7 songs. Her high notes are so clear and wide. Her strength is hitting high notes. While Sohyang slayed 4 songs and her strength is singing mellow and musical songs. They are both great singers.
Most of the comments I've read went on bashing Sohyang entirely. I appreciate your honest judgment, John. Though I did not listen without prejudice (you can say I'm a huge Regine fan), I found Sohyang's rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow quite touching. Let I just say Miss Sohyang has good range in singing also.... But there is something missing... I feel locking of Right Emotional Expression and Message of the song.... But in terms of Miss Regine singing is always place in right emotions and right timing where she give here high notes and lowNots in singing...... Sorry, but as a neutral Indonesian, choosing which is better is easy. Regine wins hands down. It's not just about which voice is better ( still Regine ), Regine seems to understand the songs better. I strongly agree. Sounded very cheap when compared to Regine.. even Amateur singers in the Philippines sounds better than her.. Her diction is quite poor but she confidently mocked and made fun with some Filipinos she heard (Filipino accent she calls it). Maybe she heard Filipinos who were unfortunately given the chance to have decent education to learn proper foreign accent but given such comparison, she is really keeping this consistent nasal sound and poor diction. Regine has a very versatile voice, runs and riffs are on point, tone is impeccable, vibrato is so beautiful, chest voice is so full, resonant and crystal clear. Regine easily wins this in my opinion.

When So Hyang sings, you need to look up for lyrics of that specific song online. While Regine, on the contrary, every word is understandable. So Hyang belts a lot. I don't feel the emotion at all. Yet Regine conveys the perfect and exact emotion in every song she sings. Stop comparing, this is not even debatable.

I'm glad that the video of these artists chosen for this comparison is really good and the voices of the 2 singers are clear. But for me Regine is the best i will never get tired of listening to her voice and the power is superb chills.
The difference between the two is regine's belts has clear word and tone that sounds so powerful chesty while sohyang belts is pure mixed voice which can't create pure vowels. But they are both good in their own way. Plus regine can still do vibratto in lower notes shes like speaking but singing a story teller that full of emotion. Sohyang has also good tone in falsetto.
That is true, a heady mix sounds gobbled and the sound which sohyang always use the placed above the mouth or nasal twang "ng" or adds it with "e" in 0:41-0:42, 0:46 then 7:35-7:36 and this lowered larynx "o" which she adds "w" infront of it like "Wooohhh" in 0:29-0:30. There's so many that i dont wanna even check anymore.
Regine has a quite high tessitura too in contrast to her deep sounding connected lower register up to her blooming upper register. Thats why Regine opts for chesty belts in some of her performance to enunciate the vowels better esp. the phrasing of each syllable can be understood than a mix which she will only use if the song demands it. Bec lets be clear a mix is only used if you need to go higher

I’m a vocal coach and I personally pick Regine. I studied both vocals and asked my students which of the ladies they are more comfortable to listen with and showing them different videos including Regine's raw and HD videos and SoHyang’s raw and HD videos.. most of them picked Regine. It’s a matter of preference people. But as a vocal coach, Regine’s voice is much okay to listen for me.. she has this heavy belts and lovely tone that is good to listen with. Sohyang has power too and great technique. I just prefer Regine, talking about overall technique, it will take us for about a couple of weeks to come up with the conclusion why Regine is better. Kudos to these Asians.

I made my honest judgement and out of 11 songs, Regine from Philippines slayed 7 songs. Her high notes are so clear and wide. Her strength is hitting high notes. While Sohyang slayed 4 songs and her strength is singing mellow and musical songs. They are both great singers.
Most of the comments I've read went on bashing Sohyang entirely. I appreciate your honest judgment, John. Though I did not listen without prejudice (you can say I'm a huge Regine fan), I found Sohyang's rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow quite touching. Regine's version, while also touching, wasn't presented properly due to the annoying credits on the screen😂

When we sang song it's not always the baseline of how highest notes you can give and and it's not also okay to here someone singing that has lot of bending of notes while singing... Sorry, but as a neutral Indonesian, choosing which is better is easy. Regine wins hands down. It's not just about which voice is better ( still Regine ), Regine seems to understand the songs better. I strongly agree. Sounded very cheap when compared to Regine.. even Amateur singers in the Philippines sounds better than her.. Her diction is quite poor but she confidently mocked and made fun with some Filipinos she heard (Filipino accent she calls it). Maybe she heard Filipinos who were unfortunately given the chance to have decent education to learn proper foreign accent but given such comparison, she is really keeping this consistent nasal sound and poor diction. "Memory" song of Ms Regine is one of the most legendary songs she sung. 😍 best rendition of her
The difference between the two is regine's belts has clear word and tone that sounds so powerful chesty while sohyang belts is pure mixed voice which can't create pure vowels. But they are both good in their own way. Plus regine can still do vibratto in lower notes shes like speaking but singing a story teller that full of emotion. Sohyang has also good tone in falsetto.
That is true, a heady mix sounds gobbled and the sound which sohyang always use the placed above the mouth or nasal twang "ng" or adds it with "e" in 0:41-0:42, 0:46 then 7:35-7:36 and this lowered larynx "o" which she adds "w" infront of it like "Wooohhh" in 0:29-0:30. There's so many that i dont wanna even check anymore.
Regine has a quite high tessitura too in contrast to her deep sounding connected lower register up to her blooming upper register. Thats why Regine opts for chesty belts in some of her performance to enunciate the vowels better esp. the phrasing of each syllable can be understood than a mix which she will only use if the song demands it. Bec lets be clear a mix is only used if you need to go higher

They both great singer. So hyang is good in hitting high notes mid notes but low is quite poor need soul and passion in singing..while regine low mid and high quite good everytime she sing you can see passion nd soul artistic voice..
Regine high notes is thick while so hyang is so thin painful to my ears..and accept it all over the world filipino were known as a great singers.
Regine is more relax reaching the highest notes.While Sohyang forcefully reaching it.While watching Sohyang singing i felt worried that she couldnt belt it out.Her face tells it all how hard for her to reach the tone.
