In 1973 I was in Salem Oregon visiting my sister My sister got home while I was in the bathroom showering and she put on the brand new Hall and Oats Abandoned Luncheonette album. It was the best bathroom experience ever in my life, lol. I was instantly a big fan of hall and Oats. I came out of the bathroom dressed and my sister and I started dancing to the music and had a great time. I love their performance on stag!

+Bobby Scott Im from Philly and had dated a girl briefly who lived NEXT DOOR to John Oates in North Wales, PA, back in the '60's and 70's, just next to Lansdale where he says he hails from. She knew him quite well. I don't believe they were roomates. They met, as I understand it at a" Battle of the Bands" at a location in Philly. A fight broke out during a show, and they both found themselves running for safety, and ended up meeting one another on a freight elevator in the building, trying to get away from the fighting. They became friends after that. Daryl is from the Pottstown area, much further west of Philly. But the Philly sound, courtesy of Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff was their major influence. It worked out well for them I'd say!
In reference to Bobby Scott: Paul Farber is correct in the way H & O met. Not College. I have their book, 'Big Bam Boom', a biography of their life, how they met, and their career. They put the book out when the Album Big Bam Boom came out. I bought the book when I bought the album -- still have both.

I just didn’t realize when I was a teenager how good he was. This is so damn good. Always loved this song and this is right up there with Billy Paul.
Hall and Oates were sanitized for a pop audience on the radio. Their recordings never brought out their passion for the music.
He sings this song so wonderful it touches my spirt and makes me feel good about being alive. I know greatness when I hear and see it. I really appreciate him and hus fellow musicians, they are all so highly talented.

The single, included on the album 360 Degrees of Billy Paul, was written by Cary 'Hippy' Gilbert, Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, and arranged by Bobby Martin.
The single became Paul's only #1 single on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, peaking at that position for three weeks in December 1972. "Me and Mrs. Jones" also achieved this feat on Billboard's R&B Singles chart, remaining at the top position for four weeks.[2] On the Hot 100, it replaced "I Am Woman" by Helen Reddy and was replaced by Carly Simon's "You're So Vain". It also hit #10 on the Adult Contemporary chart. For two weeks - 3-10 February 1973 - it peaked at number 12 on the UK Singles Chart.[3]
The radio edit versions were shorter, omitting the second verse, as well as shortening the coda. The video for this song features Paul playing piano in a recording session, with an unlit green cigar, accompanied by dancers.[4]
The saxophone quotes the first seven notes of the Doris Day song "Secret Love", heard in the intro and outro of the song. Both Sammy Fain and Paul Francis Webster sued Cary Gilbert plus Gamble and Huff for quoting the song without written approval beforehand. Daryl was very fortunate enough to be brought in Philli where both his Mother Taught Music & his Father had this Vocal Group who specialized in Harmony Parts.Luckily Daryl & John formed a bond while both were room mates at College & begin to write Songs together that later became big hits.Daryl was very much inspired by the Motown Sound for instance the Temptations as well as many other Soul Groups.Very Few Duets you'll find that has close to 40-years of Musical Experience & while pushing that big 70 they're still amazing many Generations.I Pray God will keep them here for a much longer time to share their Extraordinarily Gift from God with us.They're Amazing! +Bobby Scott Im from Philly and had dated a girl briefly who lived NEXT DOOR to John Oates in North Wales, PA, back in the '60's and 70's, just next to Lansdale where he says he hails from. She knew him quite well. I don't believe they were roomates. They met, as I understand it at a" Battle of the Bands" at a location in Philly. A fight broke out during a show, and they both found themselves running for safety, and ended up meeting one another on a freight elevator in the building, trying to get away from the fighting. They became friends after that. Daryl is from the Pottstown area, much further west of Philly. But the Philly sound, courtesy of Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff was their major influence. It worked out well for them I'd say!

They put the book out when the Album Big Bam Boom came out. I bought the book when I bought the album -- still have both.
