This is my absolute favorite song of Reba's. Reminds me so much of my Dad - he was such a wonderful man, but he was just like this. My Dad's generation was not demonstrative - they didn't tell us they loved us - I asked my Dad about this later in life and he told me that the way they showed their love to us was keeping a roof over our heads, food on the table, etc. Which, of course, they did. He was stunned when I told him that I didn't feel like I was loved growing up. While I had everything I needed and even spoiled, (we even had horses!), they didn't give out the hugs or "I'm so proud of you" accolades. He explained that their generation didn't grow up with it either and they just parented in the same way they were parented. My Dad was always there for me when I needed him - he just didn't know how to express it. It took a long time for me to understand that. The best thing about it? I showered my kids with so much love and praise - always their biggest fan! It just took a long time for me to realize how much my parents really did love me.
This song describes my relationship with my daddy perfectly...I was almost 30 before he told me he loved me (the day he lost his daddy)...and he never said it again so I am glad I got to hear those words from him at least once since he is no longer with us. He was killed so suddenly in a car accident & I never really got to say goodbye. Hmmm...apparently I wanted to cry some more! 🥲
This song is on "For My Broken Heart" the album that followed the plane crash that took the lives of most of her band in 1991. The entire album was about "their broken hearts".
Tasha, this song strikes my heart very hard. This sounds just like my daddy. I took care of him the last 5 months of his life. It was during this last 2 weeks of his life that my daddy shared his feelings for me. See, he chose to be my daddy when I was 7-1/2 years old. I’m honored to have cared for him in his last days. He truly was the greatest man I never knew until the end. I love your reaction!!! LadyGator1983🐊🐊🐊
Reba Nell McEntire (born March 28, 1955). She is often referred to as the Queen of Country, having sold more than 75 million records worldwide. Since the 1970s McEntire has placed over 100 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. 25 of which reached the number one spot. Thanks Tasha! For a great reaction video.
Another heart wrenching song by Reba is: "If I had only known". It's on somewhat of a similar premise to this one. Reba wrote it after a plane carrying her entire band, crashed. Tragically killing all on board. How she went on with her career after that, is a true testament to her strength, and her love for them. She then wrote it as a tribute for them, but, the message is universal. May they rip. 💔
I had this very talk with my father after I married and had children. He did not realize how hurt I was and he told me he loved me. We both had a good cry(I had only seen him cry once until this day...when my mother left him)He lived in another state and every time we spoke on the phone he never ended the call without telling me he loved me until the day he died. I took care of him for his last 6 months of life and I was so happy we had talked about our feelings...which helped me feel better about our relationship. He was the generation that believed showing you cared... was taking care of you. Divorce was hard on us because he never lived in the same state as we did.
As a father myself, I believe this story is utterly tragic that the songwriter's father was so introverted he could not express his love even to his children.
Reba said that this song always got to her because her own father was a very quiet man who didnt show a great deal of affection. She always loved her parents very much. Unfortunately, they're both now gone. To me Reba is an angel .
I've always LOVED this song. It took on a new meaning for me in Nov 2019. That was when I lost my dad. He grew up in a different time than it is now. I was one of the very lucky ones. He was affectionate and did always tell me he loved me. Spring of 2019 he was diagnosed with terminal cancer and given 6 months. It was hard getting through the holidays and other key events, birthdays and our annual father-daughter date, that was started when I was 9 and continued til his passing when I was 39, knowing it was his last one with us. We were able to create great memories even though they were very bittersweet. The night before his passing, the next morning, his last words to me were "I Love You Baby Girl" He passed the next morning before I had a change to go see him that day. I'm so thankful that I got to have what so many other people don't get, and wish they did. Thank you for doing this reaction.
One of her most beautiful songs is also about her fathers death… Just Like Them Horses. The official video has her mom in it as well. Also ⚠️ it will tug at you something fierce
This is such a poignant story sung by such a great voice. As a father of a half dozen children, I feel this song so strong. It makes me want to cry also. Thank you, Tasha for this reaction.

I played this at my granddaddy funeral. He raised me.

Connie I’m so sorry to hear that. I’m glad you got to hear him tell you that he loved you, but I’m sure he showed you more than he could tell you ❤️
That last line will always drop kick me in the gut...

He never knew how to say the actual words but showed it in other ways. Glad my Dad said the words AND showed in other ways. Miss you Daddo ❤️

Reba didn’t write the song.

Rena’s vocals send chills down my spine in the best way possible. This lady could sing the phone book and get me to cry.
The song reminded me of my dad Tasha he raised me in five sisters and he worked six days a week and I don't know yet I really miss him
This song describes both my parents which is why I made sure my daughter knew I loved her each and every day when she was growing up and I still do.
Reba said that this song always got to her because her own father was a very quiet man who didnt show a great deal of affection. She always loved her parents very much. Unfortunately, they're both now gone. To me Reba is an angel .
She's talking about her father I love reba
its not my fav reba song, but its very emotional. she's good at that
My Dad's parents never said "I Love You" so he made sure to always tell us and still does.
It refers to her father being down the hall meaning his and her mother’s room

This song came out around the time my father died. It still makes me cry. 😢
They are always there until they aren't. Make the most of each day and remember, hugs are free and so are I love yous.
I love this song it’s beautiful and so sad
She thinks his name was John is another great Reba song.
I appreciate that you allowed us to see how this song really affected you on a personal level, hard to expose our inner selves
Yep, that's a tear jerker!
I just took my wife and two stepdaughters to see this live in Utah last night and this song always gets to me what a great voice
This song makes me cry. I always think of my late father.😢

Probably my favorite Reba song, you should watch LeeAnn Rimes version, it’s great
One of my favorite Reba songs!!! Reminds me of my grandpa. I don’t know why cuz he wasn’t like what she describes.
This is such a poignant story sung by such a great voice. As a father of a half dozen children, I feel this song so strong. It makes me want to cry also. Thank you, Tasha for this reaction.
A Favorite 😍
Another Reba song you need to review is Maggie Creek Road.
Lovely song! Amazing voice 😢
This is a song about a father
So sad… Just like real life story
It's not about her dad, it's about a guy in the apartment building her friend was in and how her friend never got to know him before he died
I think her best song was Whoever's in New England.
