You are welcome. Glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you I have been looking at the one way jigs for sharpening my gauges and just cannot bring myself to spend that type of money but what you shared is great and as good if not better than the store bought.I subscribed to your channel last week love watching you turn and teach while you turn Blessings to you and you wife and keep up the excellent work
Thank you for subscribing Wade. Really appreciate it. Helps the channel to grow. Glad you found the video helpful. Happy turning. Toodle pip for now. Glenn & Liza
Thank you sir. I keep looking at their systems and the price thinking that I should be able to make my own. After all, I have a home machine shop along with my wood shop. This was an absolute epiphany. Thanks.
Hi Robert. Welcome to the channel. Glad the video helped.
Great video. I learned alot. Thank you.
Thank you Jack. Welcome to the channel. Glad you found it helpful.
This comes in handy as I watched your swept back roughing gouge video and I wanted to give it a try. I got a high speed steel roughing gouge for a little over $20. The problem is it is too big for my wolverine or Tormek jigs so this will work great. I have my CBN wheels set up to use my Tormek jigs. What I learned here is to put the roughing gouge jig between the tool rest and the grinding wheel. Tormek has the jig on the other side of the tool rest and what I found for me is as I lift the handle to put the gouge to the wheel the spinning wheel pushed the gouge away and I got small facets on the edge. Maybe I was not doing it right but you made a lot of sense the way you did it . Thanks. I will give your method a try.
Glad the video helped mate.
Thanks Glenn, very helpful, but I just wish I had seen this video two weeks ago could have save my self a few bob.

Very good advice all around. Since I worked in machine shops in a previous life, I'm very comfortable making and sharpening my own tools but this was still a huge help.
Welcome to the channel. Thank you James. Glad it helped.
Great video very Refreshing and innovative which is how our Hobbys should be Thanks
Welcome to the channel John. It should also be fun. Thank you for your comment and feedback. Happy turning. Glenn & Liza
I've only been turning just under a year, if only if I had seen this fantastic video soon, I wouldn't brought my, grinder. I'll brought more wood for turning lol. It just proves you never to old to learn, and I've just turned 65. Glenn it's a video I'll watch again and again thank you.
Thank you so much Grenville. I’m so glad it’s been of help to you 👍
Chisel Whisperer! I can do that! You rock, my brother!
Welcome to the dark side Archie. Welcome to the channel. Excellent. So cheap. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Brilliant video Glen and Liza! Will be making this while finding myself a motor and shaft that I can modify, as a stand alone sharpening station. Thanks mate, subscribed

Very Cool Thanks for sharing.
You are welcome. Welcome to the channel.
Hi Glenn, Great video, ive just bought my first lathe and getting set up. Im going to adopted your sharpening method. Its brilliant. Ive just subscribed to your channel and looking forward to working my way through your videos as well as your new ones.
Thanks again, ive learned a lot from this one video alone.
Many thanks, Ewan.
Welcome to the channel. Glad you enjoyed the video. Plenty for you to catch up on. Glad you have found them helpful. Happy turning. Toodle pip for now.
What a top, top video Glenn.
I’ve finished my Glenn bowl sander system - fantastic.
Saved an absolute fortune.
I’ve never ever used my traditional tools I inherited with my ‘new to me’ lathe as, I couldn’t afford ‘any’ sharpening system.
I can now, anyone can now, anyone can. 🎉
Magic, thank you once again Glenn.
Glad it can help you Peter. I look forward to seeing yours when you’ve made it. Happy turning 🤪
Excellent that is mate, thank you 👍 subscribed and appreciated

Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Well that was a story detour but certainly important to hear. It really isn't fun to find out the manufacturer of the new machine you fancied hasn't thought anything through but the selling itself. Thanks for sharing.
Very practical advice.
I will definitely be following you for more tips and tricks.
Blessings.

Thank you so much! I have been struggling with trying to free hand sharpen on a belt sander. I have a mini lathe that's just sitting since I've gotten a larger one, so I will for sure use this tip to repurpose it to sharpen my chisels!
Use it on the slowest speed and you won't overheat the tool. At a later date if you can upgrade to a CBN wheel, you will have a perfect sharpening system. That's all I use.
Absolute pleasure to listen to you Glenn. Informative as well as entertaining. Thank you. All the very best to you yours . Don
Thank you Don. Much appreciated. Happy turning 😊
Thank you bro, for good ideas, watching from ZANZIBAR ISLANDS

Absolutely brilliant video again mate, and congratulations to you both
Thanks Barry. Much appreciated by both me and Lisa.
youre awesom man
Some great tips and techniques Glen thanks.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Happy turning.
Glenn what a great video! Simple, honest, to the point and very helpful. Thanks for sharing.
You are welcome. Thank you for the feedback.
Nice one Glenn, I've got used to using your carbides but really should have a go with my traditional gouges again.
Yep give them a go. It’s nice to combine both. Happy turning 😄
Hi there Glen I have been turning quite a while and up to now I’ve not found any sharpening system especially tormek what a price they are to get all the jigs!that really fits everything Thanks a million for your sharpening setup I have just got to get making one especially as i have a 406 lathe like yours and it won’t cost what a vary grind does either well done my friend bye for now Ron.
So glad you found the video helpful. Happy turning.
Bloody good video it's helped me so much the jig is so easy to make cheers
Thank you David. If you have a CBN wheel it makes an even better sharpening system, without the cost of the grinder. Happy turning.
Super Video Glen - Wish I had found this sooner! Very Useful indeed. Always nice to see a truly practical worker.

Great video what I like about your demo's you tell it as it is, explain what you are doing ( not like most demo's no explanations and you have learn what they are doing by music) thank you will keep watching.
Thank you Charles for your comment, much appreciated
Thanks you for all the good video you give to us 1:21:40 ❤
Thank you Andre. Glad you find them helpful and entertaining.
Brilliant video mate. I use only carbide but really want to get into traditional as well. But the price of a sharpening system versus upgrading to a bigger lathe is a bar but now I think I can give traditional a try. Thanks a lot. 👍🏻
My pleasure. Use both carbide and traditional. Both have their benefits. Happy turning 😁
Most of us have those beginner machine laying around, so to put it in use for sharpeningstation is 👍
Every wood turner needs to learn it. Or maintain any of your tools!
Thank you so much, really helpful
Thank you for the info ..great video full view/Like/Subd

Top draw Glenn going to make one of these thanks for the information great watching your channel learnt a lot 👍👍👍
Nice one! Let us know how you get on. Glad you are enjoying the videos and find them helpful. Happy turning. Toodle pip for now.
I would like to know what model of face shield you are using
We did a video on it. Check out the link ruclips.net/video/HRskMIZEj4E/видео.html
Super Job !!!👍
Thank you. Welcome to the channel. Yes a CBN wheel would be better but this video was for those who don't have a sharpening system, who need a quick, cheap and easy solution, until they can get a system in place. This is a dry grindstone used on the video. I have a few systems already in place for me. I use CBN wheel.
Just found you

I have an old walker tuner drill press that makes new drill presses look like garbage so these days I look for vintage gear for my shop.. Also throw a rag down on your ways while grinding stuff. grinding dust won't be good for the machine..(takes own advice, sometimes)
Cheers and a handy tip, done that many times,,making handy mandrills and gluing on sandpaper..
Great jig Glen, love your mask, where can I get one?
See the video I did on it. ruclips.net/video/HRskMIZEj4E/видео.html
Thank you Glen for sharing your knowledge and skill.
One question, where did you get your face shield?
Phil Clark - Canada.
Hi Phil. I did a video on it. Please see link. ruclips.net/video/HRskMIZEj4E/видео.html
What gradation do you recommend for such rolling? No water for stone?
180 grit. No water. It's not a water stone.
@@glennteagleofukwoodcraftca5308 thank you very much
Great video the finish off the tool you could start sanding at 400 grit.
Thanks for sharing this! Only thing I would be concerned about is the wear from your grinding wheel falling onto your lathe's pristine bed. I would put something there to collect that abrasive dust and protect the bed - especially when dressing the grinding wheel with a diamond dresser.
This was for demonstration purposes only. I already have my sharpening set up. This was a cheap alternative for people who can't afford one etc.
I know you also meant to warn about the dangers of those sparks and that you should clean up all shavings around the lathe before attempting to sharpen your tools. You have recreated a slow speed grinder which is preferred over the cheap grinders.
No, not at all
@@glennteagleofukwoodcraftca5308 eh? It dry grinds at slow speed with a version of a wolverine jig is it not? I do not understand your reply. It was not a criticism of your idea as you said it's a get you started method. Especially as sometimes you can pick up a small lathe cheaper than most of the sharpening machines and you have made it work as you want.
I have trouble with my skew it won’t open my tin’s properly 😂
That’s because you’re scraping and not cutting it. Lol. 🤭
Kool❤😊
How do you sharpen a skew?
Already did a video on this. I don't use a grinder but a sander for doing mine. See link ruclips.net/video/D3c3jd7wyZ4/видео.html
Your video was good but if novice turners can't afford a sharpening system surely they can't afford a chuck to hold the stone
Thank you for your comment Ivan. Who said they have to use a chuck? I don't believe at any moment that I said you have to have a chuck. There are many other ways you can hold things on a lathe, ie between centres. To make a point clear, a chuck can cost as little as £50. Even cheaper second hand. Many people think a chuck is essential and then think about sharpening. So, I honestly can not see any point in your comment. Toodle pip.

Замечательно! Очень доступно и полезно! Но, я сделал бы приспособление ( в которое зажимается резец) из металла..мне, это быстрей и проще..😁👍
