thanks for making this.
'on the dodge' cassette demo was first, recorded in a van and an apartment and somewhere else maybe
'christmas dust' cassette was second -- the only xmas present we could afford, given to friends
'transmission, flux' 7" was third -- up records said they'd do an LP if this 7" did alright
'stratosphere' LP was next
then valium aggelein (dweller on the threshold) cassette
then 'apex, trance-like' 7"
then valium aggelein (black moon) LP?
then '1975'?
then 'contemporary movement'
then s/t
Big fan of you guys! Really appreciate the comment and glad you discovered the vid. Your music has inspired a lot of people including myself, very grateful for it!
not sure if you'll see this, but is clay the guy with long hair and a beard or short blonde hair
huge fun of yalls music, i discovered it this year through just browsing and i fell in love. earth/moon transit is my favorite song by yall
I love you
It's its 5.30 in the morning and I'm just binging all yourusic. Love it do much
Helvetia is like the spiritual successor of Duster, totally recommended
which album would you recommend for a newcomer
@@nikolaivanov2112 defintely Nothing in Rambling first, then Gladness, On the Lam and Dromomania, then the rest
@@nikolaivanov2112 gladness is what reminds me most of duster
thats prolly bcuz it shares members with duster !!
@@everlastingflames i think that’s what he meant by their successor lol
duster is an amazing band, im very glad my mom introduced me to their music when I was younger. my mom was a duster fan back in the very early 2000s
cool mom
I was able to talk to Dove for about 10 minutes outside of the Black Cat in DC last year when Duster played some east coast dates. Extremely nice guy. I asked him about 'Interstellar Tunnel'. He told me that is was a song that Clay made as a fuck around track. I asked him if it was going to be on their new album to which he replied with telling me that it was not. After that we chatted about when the new album was going to be released and what kind of gear duster was using to record Stratosphere. Absolute fanboy sort of moment for me but i will always be grateful for that conversation. Love u duster! ❤
did he say what gear they used on stratosphere?
@@familyvoid I want to know too!
@@familyvoid i think they just post it on their ig
I feel like the song earth moon transit is so underated it's easily my favorite duster song
That IS imo the best Duster song.
For me, Gold Dust it's one of the best songs that I've ever listened to, clearly on my top 5. It gives me a pure feeling of happines, nostalgia, sadness and love at the same time. Like I can't but imagine myself kissing someone with that song playing in the background. Without any lyrics, it's so simple yet so beautiful.
Unwound and HOOD would be cool too !
I’ll be covering Unwound at some point for sure! I’ll also consider Hood.
Wow, hood is underrated.
plant70 is that a greaf cover ?
oh man.. Unwound was insane.
Seconding Unwound
Contemporary movement is one of my favorite albums ever
Duster's music easily gets me in my most vulnerable state with their overwhelming rhythm. I've emotionally connected with their music, and I love all of their works a lot. Their music feels like being alone with your thoughts, but also being contented. Empty but fine. "Floating aimlessly in space" would describe it.
Bless up. I been a fan of duster for quite a while. I was very surprised to see them suddenly become quite popular but it's good to see. To me tho their sound is like bedhead and codeine but in space. I am curious as to why bedhead or codeine have not received as much recognition as duster has. Hopefully they will someday.
they’re so good
heard them on a skate video and thought they were bedhead both such good bands
@@revy1x blessed 🙏
@@birdworldist 917 video lol i heard bexhed on blessed
@@revy1x what skate video ? i like skate videos with good music so pls
And also we can't forget, right after Mohinder, Dove and Clay were in a short lived band called "CALM" those eps are absolutely amazing :)
Yeah their Emo band. They're also connected to the Screamo band Indian Summer, at least by other members
Calm, Indian Summer, Mohinder. All great bands. I grew up in the Bay Area and ran in the same circles as Marc Bianchi who played in Calm and Indian Summer. I remember watching Mohinder and Calm at Cupertino Library….
@@Durellwilliamsssssss calm is my favorite of their projects by a significant margin tbh. such amazing noisy music
i feel like i was too late to discover this band- but at the same time blessed that i did at the time in my life. going through a one of the most difficult points in my life, i stumbled across them and wish i did YEARS ago. appreciate the detail into this history.
would love to see a helvetia story mostly because it is more funky and has the elements i (selfishly) need to be inspired to play drums.
thank you for the content.
Just found this band. Somehow missed them, but I’m 45, so I was 22 in 2000, and everything we were listening to sounded like this then. An amazing sound that we thought was here to stay, but was just a moment in music. And to hear it being made now, was a shock to the system. It’s a stunning achievement to hear a 2019 album sound like this. And to a new fan, 2019’s album sounds like it belongs.
Chocolate and mint is a new favorite. Thanks for this video, really helped me understand it. This is where music was going before 80’s nostalgia took the wheel. We needed a pop injection at the time, because even our happiest songs were low fi wrist slitting. But it sounds crushingly amazing now. Reminds me of just road trips and pay phones, beat poetry, the American landscape and packs of blue spirits. And vision.
Duster is so ahead of its time man and the way the music makes you feel is just unreal I love this band
Whoa… just stumbled this. I grew up in the east bay, going to countless shows as a teenager in the late 90s. I had no idea until just now that the Duster i’ve been seeing popping up here and there the past few years is the same band I saw way back then. Truly wracking my brain to remember who they were opening for… modest mouse, maybe? Low? Wish i could remember, if anyone here has any ideas… mightve been at great american music hall, or maybe slim’s? i remember being totally entranced… their drummer had two big ride cymbals as a hi hat and i thought it was the coolest thing i’d seen, they always stuck in my mind partly cause of those hi hats.
Just got in to them and I’m loving it. From what I can tell, it’s basically “darkly contextualized major 7ths” The band
Auto-Mobile is one of the best songs I've ever listened to. Love duster more than anything.
literally I love duster so much. they make me feeling likee im floating in space, so cool. I love when music does that.
I love all the people that love duster, its like family.
Duster fans are the best kind of fans
I just want to say that I very much enjoyed this video and like this format. Great job!
on stratosphere one of my favorite moments is that super spacey bit in the middle section in The Queen of Hearts. i think it's a keyboard but after the intro part fades and that new spacey part starts it gets to me
Found out about Duster and specifically Stratosphere with this video - this record is otherworldly. Thank you very much
duster has been my favorite band since i discovered them in 2011 in highschool. cannot believe there is now a video on them. u are the king
Just found you channel. I will now continue to watch every video you posted. Glad to see bands like this cover here on YT.
I haven't listened to there discography, you changed all that🐱 Appreciate the time and effort that went into this!
The best band I’ve ever listened to and continue listening to. Duster for fucking life.
Wow, how have I not seen your channel before, your videos are amazing!! Duster will always be my favorite band of all time. Keep up the good work this channel has so many underrated bands that people need to hear. Would love an Unwound video as well
Btw, if anyone's looking for music similar to Duster, Eiafuawn is a band that Clay parton started after duster that is absolutely awesome. I'd highly recommend their album birds in the ground.
I never have agreed more with everything in a RUclips video till I’ve seen this. Thank you.
i don't mean to sound dramatic but honestly, duster has changed my life so much. everything about them i love so much. they just hold such a special place in my heart. i listen to them to fall asleep, study, chill out, and honestly anytime i can. i really hope they have another concert at some point. i would melt. i love you duster
Never listened. Spotify recommended them to me so I thought I’d hear what RUclips has to say. Im stoked great vid!
This channel is beautiful btw. Thanks for this ❤️
Just found duster from a shoegaze playlist on spotify and am so thankful
I remember getting obsessssed with these guys, going to stereobird and donwloading everything i could find about thwm
Duster is one of my favorite bands but their past and identity were a mystery to me until this informative video history, so thanks for the world-class content. Is there enough definitive information about Indian Summer for you to make a similar video, perhaps?
Love this video & channel!!! Thank you
I keep coming back to this video. one of my favorite bands. I first heard of them after buying CM on cassette (the owner recommended I listen to them after I told him some of what I listen to already).
Stars will fall made me cry so hard
Whoa easy there! Duster’s self titled is how I got into this band. I love it just as much as the older material. Their newest is fantastic as well!
Copernicus Crater and Chocolate and Mint off the self-titled, Escalator, Drifter, Sad Boys off the new album, all sublime pieces of art. Nothing else to add to the legacy that Stratosphere and Contemporary Movement already have, but their output since reforming proves that their sound is still prescient, still needed.
Jason's band Helvetia is incredible! And Clay's Eiafuawn album Birds on The Ground is amazing, too. Definitely go check that stuff out if you like Duster.
Fun video, really enjoyed it!
1975 EP by Duster is on the same level as the Stratosphere. I cried many times listening to the ending
just wanted to say this is a great video!!
The world definitely needs more Duster
I like this format a lot, man. And I'd love to see you do a Helvetia video someday.
Glad you dig it! I’ll definitely be covering Helvetia at some point.
i just am speechless how amazing this band is
I went and saw duster this past Friday in Dallas!!! It’s nice to see that duster went from not even having albums printing to going and seeing them and being able to buy vinyls and cassettes from them. Anyways great band!!!
i was expecting you to mention helvetia, either way great video my guy
nothing feels me with so much bittersweetness like Reed to Hillsborough.
it's a song you want to strum as hard as possible.
These videos are great, me and my friends are chuffed we can watch doccos on our favourite bands. I'd suggest checking out modern artists inspired by Duster like Cloakroom, Alex G and sometimes King Krule. Amazing band, great video! xx
I liked duster ... I liked them a lot.
I was into will oldham, dean wareham, richard buckner, red house painters and jonathan richman in the late 90's. And duster helped bridge the gab between me and my taste and some of my friends, who were more into ambient electronic indie stuff.
The Twins/Romantica is my favourite song with a slight edge over Inside Out and Reed to Hillsborough.
Stratosphere got to me while I was listening on a quiet night walking home. They sound like the transmission of lost souls from a failed space mission.
Good video. I love Duster.
Duster saved my life
At this point in my life my favorite band right now
Same
i love duster so much oh my
i love their last album!
please do an update on the 2023 album! I wanna hear what you think now this was a wonderful video

Blew my mind in 1997.

Duster is hands down the best band ever, they are geniuses
Don’t forget about Calm. Other than that great video ❤️

I FUCKING LOVE DUSTER
One of the greatest bands ever
echo, bravo i like the cymbals
Spotify led me to them. I never knew that they were from the 90’s. 😢 better late than never.
nice vid love duster
Today I discovered Duster and Mazzy Star. Today’s a good day.
Holy shit, I had no idea Duster was made of members of Mohinder. That's a pretty wild juxtaposition of styles
If you like Duster you should listen to the band Space Needle, sounds like Duster but noisier at times.
I really want to meet someone who actually listened to duster in the 90s
Where can I find duster's whole discography? Cause honestly I never heard of Christmas dust and I’d like to hear their whole discog
The band hovvdy reminds me of a slightly louder Duster
if you like duster and haven’t heard of Eiafuawn. It’s literally duster but all acoustic
give them a listen
Ok
Anyone want to start like alternative or slow core band ?!
I love duster
Experimental dust is really awesome
This is so cool haha
my favourite duster song has gotta be me and the birds
Damn i really thought he would mention me and the birds in the video
