Bill Frisell played in Detroit back in 2007. One of the best shows I’ve ever been to. He played a version of Marvin Gaye’s ‘What’s Goin’ On’. Sent chills!!!!
Never noticed Bill using flat wound strings before. Wouldn't matter what he used, of course. Such taste, elegance, creativity and understatement going on here.
I've been aware of him for ages via guitar magazines, but have only started listening to his music lately. This is extraordinary stuff. I love how he's not wed to merely jazz or other genres. He just seeks to create something moving and magical which requires improvisation to reach.
One of my long time favs - Bill. Can’t wait to see Emma Franz’s film about him, if it comes to Cincinnati. I sure hope FBJ has some more recordings in the can. This was so... “Bill...” Love it.

I believe his dad was a chemist of some sort.
