Back in the old days of MF Nikon cameras, 52mm was the standard Nikon filter size. (And also the size used by the current Z 40/2 and 28/2.8.)

In my head, 52mm is THE Nikon filter size. Everything from 1970s primes to recent DX kit lenses all take 52mm. Plus one of my LUMIX lenses as well.

I own this baby. I mostly use it with my ZF. But when I travel, I take my Z8 with the 24-70 F2.8 and I toss this little lens in my bag for lazy days when I just want to walk around NY, Vegas, etc... with only the Z8 and pancake.

The best thing about having multiple cameras is that they can restrict you, enable you and inspire you in different ways. I finally got my Leica Q3 in November and I love how it reminds me of shooting with my old Nikon FA film camera from 1983 (but without the hassle of processing film). It is great for casual things. At the same time though, I love my main Sony system, and I almost prefer the A7R3 paired with the Sony 35mm F1.8 for similar situations as the Q3. I also love a proper pocketable camera,.... one that fits in a jeans pocket...

As already mentioned by others, the 52mm filters were the standard for Nikon MF lenses ranging from 20mm f/3.5 up to 200mm f/4.
Only the very expensive lenses with higher f-stops required larger filters, but the 50 mm f/1.2 was also compatible with 52mm filters.

I shoot a Z5. I was debating on getting a ZFc or Z30 and picking up this lens for it. I have the Viltrox 24mm but i still think the Nikon 26mm would be good on apsc. I love your shots with it!

I use the Nikon Z8 w/24-70 2.8S / 105 2.8S for my woodland photography, but when I'm out with the family I bought a Canon 6D + 50 1.8 STM just for the fun factor. Both cameras make me want to shoot. So ill probably pick up the stellar Z 50 1.8 S for the Z8 & let my son use the 6D.

I have the Nikon d200 and ZFC, both great love them. I use the TTartisan 25mm for the zfc which is 35mm equivalent it’s a fantastic lens all manual though but gives out amazing photo quality. With my d200 I have a zoom lens and 50mm prime both are great, tend to shoot with the 50mm more often but the zoom is always a great option just kinda heavy.

Back in the 80s, 52mm filters were common. On the top of my head, my Canon 50mm f1.8 FD lens used this filter. lol I think this will go well on my Zf camera.

1:03 - sensor-guard shutter doesn't close so either you set the camera to not use that shutter, or you left the camera powered "On". Nikon want you to set it to "Off" when you swap lenses. And so they make this shutter dependent on the On/Off situation.
Is that important? No and yes. When you switch power Off on the camera, this also locks moving parts in your lenses (floating elements, motors, and VR parts).
I'm inclined to think that it is more important than not to switch off.

I did photography a few weddings back in the day with Nikon film cameras and no one had a issue with the lens noise. But keep in mind we did not take a lot of photos like we do today with digital.
Most weddings photographers took about 250 for 8 hours of coverage.

I thought it would be the 26mm as soon as i read the title
    Good kit 💪🏼
Edit: Kinda cool to see you shoot more Nikon again. Been following since 2017, so I remember the good old Nikon DSLR and Sigma Prime times.
I got myself the even cheaper 28 f/2.8 on the Z6 and it feels pretty solid. Yet the 26mm is the one to go for a higher mpx camera, but in Austria it goes for about 600€, which is 3 times the price I paid for the 28mm😐

I tried a little bit of everything to be a suitable replacement for the Q2 including this setup. I think you hit it towards the end that the setup is all about making you want to take pictures. That being said...I did eventually replace the Q2 but with a Q3. This definitely hits above it's pricetag but there is just something visceral with the Q's I still adore. I lasted a week with the X100v and really have no interest waiting in line to try the x100vi

I'm at a crossroad, i shoot portraits/headshots, and video on stage at clubs/events. Currently shooting with the s5iix and sl2, 24-70 s pro, 50 sl lux and 90 apo. Was hoping the sl3 would be able to replace both s5iix and sl2 but its not there yet.
Whats your thoughts on the z8 with their 24-70, and 85 1.2/135 plena? thoughts on skin tone, OOF rendering, editing? But I also love the feel of the sl system.

The 26 is smaller, sharper, and has a metal mount (I don’t do plastic lens mounts). IMO the 28 is closer to a muffin than a pancake. But both are excellent lenses.

Loved many Nikon DSLR bodies, D850 my last, after moving on from Canon, go figure. But I moved on to Sony and now also shoot Leica mostly though refuse to sell the A1 and a few lens as I feel that will be my last “mirrorless” and it is such a fine one at that. But yeah, I love my Q3 but my M10-R is the camera that leaves the house with me everyday. Do it Evan! Find an M that works for you, just my .02 worth.

I love that lens. I will tell you it looks better on the Zf than the Z8. On a flip, I just got the 28-400 zoom and it looks better on the Z8. The glass that Nikon is coming up with for the Z mounts have awed me.

Haha idk I kinda like the funny look it has on the full frame by but I definitely agree that on the zf it’s a perfect combo. Doing this test definitely makes me want to try out some other glass so maybe a 24-400 is a good place to start. I want to get out to Tennessee eventually and a telephoto would be good to have

It;s worth noting that Nikon also makes a cheapo 28mm f/2.8 that is about twice as deep as the 26mm but is still very compact. The image quality on that lens is a little less sharp at f/2.8 but both lenses are pretty much equal at f/3.2 or f/4. It's internal focusing which makes it much more silent, it;s still pretty small and it's very lightweight. Only major downside of this lens for me compared to the 26mm is the lack of weather sealing, but it's about half the price too. Bought mine for around 200 bucks.
Also, 52mm filters are EXTREMELY common, it's like the most ubiquitous filter size I've ever seen. All of my older Nikon APS-C zooms were 52mm, all of my Nikon vintage glass is 52mm, all of my Viltrox primes were 52mm, same goes for the few Canon lenses I've used... filter sizes like 49mm or 46mm expecially are way more uncommon than 52mm. 52mm is liek the standard filter size of smaller lenses, has been for like 40 years.
