Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the sequel to the remake of the beloved RPG, finally has a release window. It'll be coming to the PS5 in early 2024. The announcement was made as part of Summer Game Fest.

The first game shipping for PS5 on two discs, I believe. Which means the overall file size of the base game is going to be well over 100GB for those wondering, since that's the disc size limit. Better tidy up those hard drives.

I love how they made the trailer perfect for those who know what is happening, the lore people and theorists who KNOW, and the ones who are new to FF7 and have no idea what’s happening but excited
I love the idea that Sephiroth is trying to convince Cloud that his memory is the correct one, and something is wrong with Tifa and her version of the Nibelheim events.
theres also the problem we changed the past and the future by defeating those ghosts. perhaps "here" tifa did die and zack did survived, and our Tifa live since she traversed that portal, but sephirot cant know it right?

Seriously, I’m so curious about how the game will go.
I've been of the opinion that this whole remake will include all of the story of the original, but have more ties towards the end. Like an expansion basically. So older players will have something new, and newer players will know the original story

@@Official_KC Exactly, cuz when you think about it; even though all that stuff happened at the end of remake why wouldn't our main party simply follow the same path? Maybe there will be some slight changes here and there and weird shit may happen in some places but the major rippling effect of those changes will probably take up until near the end of this game to actual raise their head.
Right at the start where you saw a glitch type effect, and the party either dead or badly injured being taken away by Shinra - that is Zack's "world" or "time line". It happens again later in the trailer when we see Cloud wearing a hood saying "Reunion", I think we will have Laguna of FF8 style swap overs to Zack.
They sure know how to hype up FF7. I don't have any consoles to play it myself, but I sure am gonna watch Jesse's playthrough

So either Sephiroth is just lying about killing Tifa to mess with Cloud (maybe she did recover from that wound) or the current "Tifa" is some kind of Jenova (the "she" from the first quote) clone, I guess.
Tifa did recover from the wound. In OG FF7, when you acquire Tifa's final Limit Break, it's explained that Zangan came to the reactor to kill Sephiroth, but instead came across a wounded Tifa, Cloud and Zack, and was able to get her out before Hojo and Shinra appeared at the reactor and took all the survivors from the incident to be used as experiments. He was able to keep her alive by constantly casting Cure on her while they made the trip to Midgar, where he left her in the care of a doctor he trusts, who was able to help her recover. That's also how she ends up in Midgar in the first place.
The two of them escaping the reactor right before Shinra shows up is also shown in the FF7 OVA Last Order, and more in depth details about how she survives as well as ends up meeting Marle, Jessie and Barret and ends up working at Seventh Heaven, are revealed in the FF7R: Trace of Two Pasts book, although that was only just released in English 3 months ago and didn't get much promotion so most people are probably unaware of it's existence.
tl;dr, OG game explains Tifa's recovering from that wound, Sephiroth is definitely trying to mess with Cloud.
or in this reality we had access to the Tifa of here did died by sephirot while our Tifa did not and sephirot is messing with cloud here. just like when we departed zack was dead but when whe defeated the ghosts hes alive.

So fun fact about the tifa thing....google the flashback from the original. Its pretty much exactly how it played out, just no one addresses it. There are a lot of just buried plot threads in 7 that were dropped or just left behind due to time, and I have to wonder if this is one of them. In the original, she takes a slash, and goes flying down the stairs leading to the reactor with a heavy thud, and doesn't move or make a sound for the rest of the flashback. But because the focus is on cloud, there's not even a moment to address that now we know how Cloud survived...but how did she?!
Now you mention it, as someone who played Crisis Core, I can't recall Tifa's moments in the reactor being extrapolated on back then either.
Not too surprised at the inclusion of Reunion as a discussion point as well, considering the Dirge of Cerberus content prior they'd be crazy not to include some nod to Advent Children, Calling it now, if there's another part that's the next title.

It was addressed often? The story recounted is questioned all the time because cloud is an unreliable narrator and seph taunts him and says false shit to him in the OG.
@@Deminese2 Exactly. Sephiroth either lies, or is just incorrect about things that he confidently states as fact, and he doesn't really care about the difference as long as it gets the results he wants. In that sense he very much takes after Hojo.
It is explained if you go back to Tifa's piano on the final disc to get Final Heaven for her. Her teacher, Zangan (you meet him briefly in the flashback before Nibelheim burns down and you also see him again when the village is on fire rushing into a burning house), left a note in it saying he found her and kept her alive while taking her to Midgar for medical attention. He was supposed to provide some exposition on Nibelheim as well when the party arrives there but that bit got cut from the game.

I wonder how they will set the divergence of two timelines since it looks like we will see the events of the original but also we will see avalanche get captured, now we got zack back and see something else in tifas and cloud hometown, and give , more meaning to the shadow versions of cloud in the original game where could have been the whispers in the remake. And also the trailer could taunt us of the same jenova on the boat after junon but we might be fighting the matrix, as if sephiroth is like what the architect said ij the movie, is not the first time cloud have done this and we are fighting sephiroth rewriting history again for the 4th time and Aeris once more is foreshadowing everything even knowing she will die again, is like what he said in the end of the remake.

Putting the word "REMAKE" in the title of part one of the Sequel was definitely the smartest move I've seen Square Enix do in years!
I'm excited to see how this will turn out! (though I will wait for the PC version)

3:00 did you not see the team getting loaded into medivax after a “”tornado”” swept though sector 1 and 2? To me it sounds like reality is trying to fix itself and now there may be 2 version of our party one that is injured/dead and one that made it out?
Also when sephiroth says you saw me kill her so what is she? Is he talking about aerith or Tifa?
Edit: I mean think about it Tifa HATEs Shira for what they did to her family and village so she decides to move all the way to midgar the home of shira and set up a new life?

Think about it. Cloud only got saved by Tifa in the original game because he trusted her. If Seph makes Cloud not trust Tifa, he wins.
In the Japanese trailer he explicitly says Tifa.
What the hecky, Becky. I'm currently rewatching episode 28 of his playthrough.
That first scene makes me feel like "I called it" way back when I first saw the ending to the last one. They crossed timelines; entered the portal to whatever beyond that was in Timeline A, and exited into Timeline B. Notice Cloud wasn't among the bodies? That's because Cloud B is in a coma in some hospital. Zack was the one working with Avalanche, and it didn't go well.
Pretty much, especially with that twist at the end. They are hopping timelines/realities
That timeline with the dead memebrs is in Zacks timeline where he is alive still. Those members died from the tornado at the end of remake. That happened in both instances since it was timey stuff. Thats why Zack walked into the church and everyone was sad like Aerith died. The members we are with in this trailer, are still the same ones that we played in the OG and its still in their timeline technically. It will just have 2 diff timelines. One where zack is trying to save the planet and this one that is closer to the OG story.
if they crossed why is there dead bodies? I thnk it's two parallel time line one where the party died because cloud didn't became a merc cuz Zack didn't die and there's the original timeline where they continue on. On zack time line Cloud didn't recover from mako poisoning and became like Marco hence why he's in the northern creator saying Reunion in the trailer.
@@BmCNinJa Right. If we call the majority of events of Remake "Timeline A" then in A, Cloud A, Tifa A, Barret A, Red A, and so on all lived, while Biggs A, Wedge A, and Jesse A all died. HOWEVER in Timeline B Cloud B is in a coma, Tifa B, Barret B, Red B, and Aerith B all died while Jesse B, Wedge B, and Biggs B all lived.
I suspect things will play out almost identical to the original timeline right up until we get to the gold saucer and find that Reeve/Cait Sith has recruited the survivors of Avalanche B to work with him, resulting in a big "you're alive!" moment from all parties involved. Things will continue to play out as normal right until Cloud dies. Yes; dead-dead. None of this going catatonic stuff; he dies. Straight up....but they have a backup in the still alive and catatonic Cloud B. So that whole questline will be putting Cloud A's mind in Cloud B's body.
To paraphrase from the legendary Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver games, "time is a river, and if you throw at stone into the stream the current simply moves around it to return to as close as possible to its original flow."
ok first the most you can say is barret, tifa, and red 13 at :41 are unconscious, you generally don't e-vac dead bodies. Also I find it strange they blame the damage on a tornado and not a terrorist attack. However the main potential evidence for more then the 2 realities is at 3:40, where we see Tifa take a hit like in the original, however this one appears to be far more severe only to have Sephiroth say "We know that I killed her. So who is she?". Now to be clear that does not negate the idea we might be playing 2 separate time lines and hoping between the 2, one with Cloud and co and the other one with Zack and crew. That could very well happen, but also more then likely by the end of the second game we will be dealing with time line hopping/reality sliding shenanigans. (though if I were a betting man I would guess that twist is the half way point of the second game)

That's possible but I think it's Sephiroth trying to make Cloud doubt Tifa and cause strife (ha) in the party.

The audio is most likely out of context. I'd guess Sephriroth is referring to killing Aerith
Rewatch the flashback in the original game, that's how it played out but no one addresses she looked pretty dead too. We have explanations for Zack and Cloud recovering, but Tifa kind of got forgotten about.
@@shadowneko521 It actually explains how she survives in a scene when you get her final limit break. You end up coming across a letter written to her by her teacher, Zangan, in which he explains that he went to the reactor to kill Sephiroth, but ended up finding her, Cloud and Zack instead, and was only able to carry her back to safety while casting Cure on her during the trip, with Hojo and Shinra coming and rounding up all the other survivors as he was leaving. It ended up not being enough though, so he took her to a doctor he trusts in Midgar, where she ended up staying while he became a wanderer. Then when he returns to Nibelheim, he finds it fully restored, and leaves the letter to Tifa along with the manual for Final Heaven in the possibility that she might return one day.
There's also a scene depicting these events in FF7: Last Order, if you got around to fully experiencing the compilation.
Since Jesse JUST came back from Squeenix, I have a hard time believing he didn't know this trailer was coming, especially with his 5minGN hint.
However his initial reaction makes me question that. Great reaction!

I am SO looking forward to this!😁✊🏿 Bugenhegan and Elena are looking so good! Though I was hoping to see Cid and Vincent too but I guess in the next trailer we will. However what Sephiroth said about Tifa might just be another evil manipulating trick on Cloud.
Anyway since it said this'll release early next year hopefully that means in January!
I bet that last line from sephirot it's just him messing with Cloud's mind leading up to him mind controling him eventually line in the original.

I am all on board with the exploration of Tifa surviving Sephiroth. It's a question that has been asked multiple times.
It's something that's explained in game when you get her Final Heaven limit break, and is shown during the FF7 Last Order OVA
@@TheTsunaru Wow, I almost completely forgot about the OVA. I remember bursting out laughing when Sephiroth jumps into the reactor. The OG story explains how Cloud survived; Hojo, Jenova Cells, Mako poisoning and the accidental brainwashing by Zack. But Tifa was kinda like "Have some cure until we reach the other side of the world".

The remake is a series of games, likely a trilogy, which flesh out a lot of the things that were lacking in the original game. FF7Remake was the game released in 2020, which covered the portion of the original game that takes place in Midgar. In the OG, that section usually takes around 4-6 hours on your first playthrough, so not a small amount, but still pretty quick. Remake expands the story/content in that section so that a basic playthrough will run you 30-40 hours, while a full completionist run is about 80.
Ok, as someone that didnt get into RPGs at the time 7 came out, and going off of 7 remake and the intergrade DLC, Im confused by the scene with Barrett, Tiffa and Red XIII being loaded onto the helo,

There's nothing concrete, but there's theories that the ending events of Remake resulted in a split timeline being created, especially because a character that's confirmed dead in OG FF7 is shown to still be alive at a time after he originally dies. It's all purely speculation though, and we wont know for sure until Rebirth is out.
@TheTsunaru oh yeah I have seen those theories and find them interesting, but I've seen the same basic reaction from nearly everyone I've looked at (and to be fare its only like 3 to maybe 4 reactions.
But everyone ive seen has reacted the same way to the helo scene which was no reaction, so I was unsure if thats something that happend in the OG game

What if the Cloud on Zack's timeline will become Sephiroths body because he never met avalanche and recover his memory because Zack actually live and he never got Zacks persona.
I think the opening scene is Shinra doing a "cover-up" of the attack on Midgar and putting the blame on Avalanche while trying to calm down the masses. I have missed feelings on Tifa questioning and commenting on Cloud not being there 5 years ago because it was a major plot point of the original, but it is also something that needs to be addressed. People are now assuming that because of Sephy's comments that Tifa died and is a clone? I think this is another bait and switch and he's referring to the fact he knows Aerith's fate and his own. But I am curious to see if I'm wrong. The fact this part is going to be 2-Disks makes me wonder just how massive it will be? Also, god help PC users when it finally comes out, the HD space is going to be huge. I also love the fact we are getting some sort of Dual attacks, Chrono trigger style and hope that means we could also see Triple Attacks.
In the first game Remake was more than a title, it was about Square remaking the whole storyline. So Rebirth means that... Tifa... died... in the Nibel reactor and was actually reborn somehow?
I've never cared for final fantasy, and never got round to ff7 remake... this looks AMAZING.

My god these developers are making 8K visuals
Really curious how much this part will cover. At least to Cosmos Canyon and the first Jenova fight, but I don't remember what all happens before/after that it's been so long (the fist Jenava fight happens on the boat ride from Junon right?). Part of me wonders about the Gold Saucer because my hazy memory makes it feel it would turn up at this stage of the game, but they didn't show it at all and I can't imagine reason why that part of all parts wouldn't be shown off for the hype as it's one of the most well known locations in the game.
Part of me also just always assumed this second part would cover up to the City of the Ancients and the end of Disc 1.
I can't remember exactly when you can go to the Gold Saucer either unfourtunately but I think it's still unreacheable till some time later. I only remember it's in the desert close to Ruby weapon.
@@Saucy_Wiggles Gold Saucer is prior to Cosmo Canyon, you need the car to cross a river to reach Cosmo. And get there via Gongaga and more delicious backstory moments. Nibelheim and Rocket Town come after Cosmo Canyon but it's not clear if we will progress to the point of the actual Reunion or if it'll just be teased at.
@@sirbobulous I 100% think we'll be getting to North Crater. I think there's enough of the game post-NC to justify the third game.
My theory was always end of Disc 1 for part 2 as well, but with this being a two disc release, I'd guess they either go longer, or they reeeeally flesh out the game leading up to those events like how they did for the Midgar section.
@@KharaChmiel Agreed, I hope you're right. A 40 hour, 60 hour, 40 hour trilogy of games is fine by me!
I just hope they're not planning on pushing to 4 or even 5 games by making each one cover smaller chunks. I don't want to be waiting on the final installment come 2040 :D

I had to put down the first game because I really dislike the English voice acting, and it's still exactly the same here. I might try it in Japanese.

I mean Jesse, Bud, They arent going to stray from the OG plot that hard. Its all pretty much the same with naratives that may have been weak and/or confusing in the og to most folks. Looks good still. Brings me back to FF7 og which I admit was like number 4 for me at the time. I had weird taste in FF9, FF12 and FF6 X3 still stand by it kind of...kind of. Lots of greats FF games. As long as they aint 8 or 13. Thanks.
I don't know how nobody and I really do mean nobody, picked up on the changed the genre of rpg, the one game that did that in the past is ff7.

My hot take is that the separate disks are for the separate universes/timelines.
The scene we see at the beginning with all the dead Avalanche members is in Zac’s alternate universe. We already basically got told Aerith was dead at the end of the DLC, so it fits.
Cloud will be on one disk, and Zac on the other.

There's also a brief scene of them escaping the reactor in the Last Order OVA, and the FF7R: Traces of Two Pasts book that came out in 2021 (but only got an English release this past March) goes in depth explaining everything from her surgery, how she ends up meeting Marle/Jessie/Barret and Marlene, and how she becomes the proprietor of the Seventh Heaven bar.
I love the idea that they take the same story beats from the original and alter it to change up who went where. Same same but different.

That an entire generation of gamers will have this be "Final Fantasy 7" to them fills me with pain.
One problem with how the first game ended is we already beat Sephiroth, it's like wait we're still doing this? What're we going to just have him as the final boss for every game, like this is Resident Evil 6 and we keep having to beat him over and over.
Honestly, I hope they make a story cut of all of these whenever they finally release the full story because these are just to much for me compared to the original. I don’t need all this extra content/gameplay time. I’m glad it’s being done, because it fleshes out whatever world this is, but I’d kill to for a super cut that lessens the amount of combat I have to do.

Man, I really wish FF7 would FF-off. - I'm a huge fan of the PS1 game, and to see it turned into something so grey and unremarkable is just heartbreaking.
I was so let down by this. The capstone announcement was about a game we already know about which is a continuation of a game we didn't get the entirety of in the first place which is a remake of a not even top 5 Final Fantasy.
Didn't they remake this only a few years ago? I mean it looks good - but it feels very sudden. I'd rather they redid one of the less popular Final Fantasies - like III or IX. Or make a new one that's actually good.
Ff 7 remake part 1 was 2020. They had already noted this going be a 3 part game set. So likley we see each part relased every 3-4 years.
Don't care. Square already hates its fans with its love of nfts, and outright shunting of xbox players. Doesn't deserve its attention.
