Is it just me, or does everyone else love that little blinker arrow (and sound) to indicate what he's talking about. @SoupClassicMotoring - Is that an actual blinker light and blinker sound from this Lotus? If so, it's such a next-level detail of all these videos... but you probably already knew that. Cheers!
George, your comment about walking away and recharging and then returning to a difficult task is so true. Impatience is a killer - DAMHIK. Love your work, mate.
Absolutely TRUE...when things get complicated, just take a time to yourself, breed deeply, fart out all the problems, and then get back to the task afresh...I am doing a PhD and just took a break from the re-redaction of a 50 pages document (the 1st version needed some tweaks and "peaufinage") and will get back to it in a week or two. in those 2-3 weeks that I am off of the university work, I am tackling big jobs on both my cars (timing belt change + engine maintenance + summer cleaning, buffing, polishing, ceramic coating....etc.) which makes me work hard, sweat a lot, eat like a pig, sleep well,... yeah, but at the same time evacuate all the stress and pressure of studying 8-10 hours a day!
I honestly don’t know how this channel doesn’t have a million subscribers. Incredible content every time. Really well produced and edited. I get the sense that word is getting out about this incredible content and George is on the verge of really blowing up.
@@derekchauvinisahero2010 Totally agree...I think that at this rhythm, it will take 3 decades before we can see the Esprit on it's feet...sorry, on it's wheels! He should have just bought an old good chassis, give it a nice cleaning/paint and start the real restoration, then people will be hooked and follow...I personally forgot the channel until the notification popped up on my computer. With one video every week (between 3 to 40 min), I am sure he will get to 1M in No time!
Your work on the Lotus backbone transcends art... it’s almost... spiritual... your attention to engineering detail is sadly missing in many professional workshops today...
its actually strangely refreshing watching George struggles and triumphs ,specially if you watch Car rebuild content in YT where you see people making drama over nothing when they basically just pay or get presented with tens of thousands crate engines , equipment and parts and STILL end up with "finished" projects that CANT be driven more then a couple of yards .
lol, no professional workshop would ever get anything done in this manner, its bonkers attention to detail....got to respect it but unless the car is a million dollar piece? well, it is what it is...let this fella loose on a 1960s ferrari....
I just can't get over how good this guy is at getting creative shots with his camera. A true artist! Edit: Just wanted to add that this channel needs a million subs ASAP. If this isn't quality, I don't know what is.
What a mad mix of brilliant production, car restoration and philosophy, all delivered with the smooth vocals of a guy that can really tell what is good and what isn't.
Hi George, the best part about these videos is that because we have seen you build a metalworking skill set almost from the ground up, it builds a real tension in the viewer! I find myself willing you to do a perfect job 🤞 and know that OCD feeling oh so well. Just walk away, come back another day and you just can''t call it finished until it meets your own special standard. Great stuff and that chassis looks one helluva lot better to me, no matter how close the camera gets 👍
I spent today welding, welding, clamping, tacking, fabricating, shaping, burning myself, coughing on fumes, more welding and a bit of spray painting. Long day but pleased with my work. Now on to watch your video 👍🏻
George..one facet of you and your videos, besides the killer editing, is to urge and encourage viewers to improve their abilities by just trying..to just take small steps til one understands that one can do the task...very view channels do this..most of them are..hey look how good i am...you are so unique and such a joy to watch...peace and health..
I've been following along for a while and am so happy to finally see this piece on the chassis for the final time. Even if a few welds have to be redone. Keep it up!
The disease you have that sounds like canal without the C.. had me almost fall off the couch laughing, but is exactly the reason why this channel and the work and skill shown on it, is second to none!
So true about craftsmen who know their trade. To hear the DA was not being used correctly reminds me of the days I was using a DA on a wood floor with a hoover plugged into it. The craftsman came running into me while I worked in the other room because something didn't sound right - to him. The hoover nozzle was plugged into the blow hole, not suck, and he picked that up from the other room. Amazing what people who know what they're doing, know. The fit of your replacement panel is fantastic. Worth every second of those two months to make it. Perfect. It is like the immaculate conception the way it lines up with the old welds. A credit to your patience. There was as usual just one small but crucial issue with the production of this video. It was all over just too quick. :(
How anyone can thumbs down given the quality and patience of the work, the study of the craft and the desecration to the film and animation. I don’t want the welding to end ;) loving your work
“Doing things when you’re in the right energy to do them” - doesn’t make a whole lot of grammatical sense, but boy does it appropriately describe the issue. I’ll be using that one for sure. Another amazing video (with brilliant music) and the most lovingly refurbished chassis - pure magic.
I am fascinated by this restoration: your staggering attention to detail; the learning new skills as you go along; whatever it takes, do it properly; and the Esprit being my all time favorite car is the icing on the cake. I am sure you will follow this through to end up with the perfect result.
Watching such intricate precision engineering and the effective birth of this part and to now see it welded into place, it makes me feel all parental and need to keep it as special as it is now!!! Beautiful work as ever George!
I’m in awe of the attention to detail, this is probably the slickest RUclips restoration channel I have ever come across. You deserve everything that’s coming your way, thank you for sharing all the hard work and effort...✨✨✨👍
It great to see your progression since you started. Welds are visibly improved since the first videos. It's inspiring to watch. Love the Soup stamp on the car chassie.
Lovely work on that panel, I love the attention to detail on a part that won't be seen... that's what separates the skilled from those who will never strive long or hard enough be good enough. It's a wise man who knows when to step away...
Sorry George, only just watched (viewing habits seem to have changed massively since COVID). Your panel reproduction is a masterpiece, you should be incredibly proud of that.
I'm new to SOUP, I was initially attracted by the Cortina, but I'm now working my way through the back catalog of videos. I love your work George, not only what you do on the cars but also the amount of effort that you put into producing your films. I'm here for the long haul. Good luck.
Seriously, this has got to be one of the best automotive RUclips channels I've seen - top work on the videography, audio, commentary and, of course, the car.
Just don't give up. I look forward to these sooo much but even more to see the Esprit back on the road like it's new. Wait, with you it'll be BETTER than new!
Awesome. Your style and quality of restoration is what most restorers would aspire but never actually get achieve, but is great to watch and helps put the inevitable problems into a more manageable perspective. Looking forward to the next episode, with you getting the chassis painted in the correct shade of black! Awesome work & awesome editing.
George, as you know by now, the destination is as important as the journey. I spent 4 years learning to weld and it just takes time. I suspect your voltage is still a bit too low and practicing on small test pieces will not need as much heat as a large piece like a chassis. You have set the bar high on the quality of your work, which is always a good thing but I have also found that when we achieve that standard, there is a strong temptation to raise the bar a little higher. More than anything, be kind to yourself, be kind to others and always act with respect. Stay safe and your work (and camera work) is amazing!
I understand the desire to get to those goals, like black paint, and the frustration of things taking longer, and being more difficult than you plan. Im just happy that you are back to working on the lotus, and look forward to every episode
Love the narrative you add to these videos. The experience you have strikes a chord with me, because I am finding the same with building bikes. It's teaching you more about yourself and the time taken to develop skills etc maybe the skills aren't the most complicated in the world but the application of the whole and the time taken to learn them to a level you are happy with is what leads to an awesome build. Keep up the great work.
Fantasic episode, George! Great to see the welder back again. I get the whole having to take a step back, bit. The more you try to get it right, the more frustrated you get when it isn't, & the worse you get at trying to fix it. Break the cycle with a drink & some rest, to come back relaxed & able to think & work cleanly. Next time!
Major kudos to Delta for their support. Without guys like you there’d be no guys like George ......and the world of cars and men in sheds would be poorer
Seeing the fine details on a lotus sure make me thankful that I'm into series land rovers with 'patina'. Love that stamp, that really came out great. In 30 years some enthusiast is going to be frustrated when trying to find some reference to that stamp in lotus archives. 😊
Great to see the care that went into that piece of metal pay off. I was in suspense the whole time you were welding it hoping there was no gotcha at the end.
Your attention to detail is simply amazing. I too am suffering from 'project creep' but I'm decided to forge ahead, with your videos as inspiration of course. Looking forward to the next installment of your project! Cheers from Puerto Rico.
I'm about to undergo a major restoration on my 1988/89 Lotus Esprit. I really appreciate all the details you're showing so that I know what I might encounter when I rebuild my car.
You did allude to it later but I think almost even before you started I was thinking he forgot to mention he is a perfectionist. I am renovating an old house and can spend endless hours painting everything perfectly with a quality of paint nobody would ever notice. At least not I am on my 3rd renovation and I know more about where you actually see the nice details vs where its not worth it. Great video as always!
Fantastic! I felt like I was putting that frame part back on. And it felt so good to see it going back on! I can imagine how good it felt (I really can, because I've restored a car or three) to finally be getting that frame back together. What I can't imagine is the immense feeling of pride and satisfaction that comes with knowing you built that part yourself. Wow!
Great work George 👍👍 the amount of thought and time you're putting into each piece is evident, one thing I would do though to future proof the chassis is to weld all the way around on the gearbox mounts. The gaps at the ends will allow water and dirt to get trapped and it'll start to rust.
