I am a super slow declutterer. Been decluttering for the last 7 years slowly selling things, donating, and using things til they are worn out. I used to be hovering on the line of hoarding (every nook and cranny was stuffed, but nobody ever knew cause the rest of my place looked nice and clean). now I’m aiming for minimalism one day. Have donated about 50 boxes of things, sold over 300 items, recycled and trashed a bunch of stuff too. It’s been a super slow process but now “stuff” gives me anxiety and I just keep getting rid of more and more.
It's so true that decluttering your wardrobe makes it even better; I always felt like I never had enough to wear, but I got rid of what I hated and now whenever I have to pick out a piece of clothing it's something that I love and that's such an improvement.
It’s interesting you use the word functional re your home. I never really thought of that at the beginning. At first it was what don’t I need or don’t I use, but when I realised the home still wasn’t functioning, and we weren’t planning on moving, I saw that I had to clear out things I like too. Going this extra step has made so much difference.
I so agree - I think functionality is the number one thing and I found that if I came at it from that angle, it became a lot clearer on what to do! Thank you for sharing!
I loved the suggestion to clean the toilets and surfaces with products you don’t prefer on your body! Thats such a great idea! My kids constantly leave like one squirt or 2 in the shampoos and bodywashes and it just sits there until gets thrown away.🤷♀️Ill scrub the shower with it
The trick for me is limitation, like this shelf is for that, or this basket, and if I buy where I put this thing. This resonate really tell me if I need or just a fantasy or impulsion 💛 nice video, I love your channel !
Yes! Setting boundaries really helps especially when shopping. Ex: If I buy this, where will it live in my home? Oh yeah, that shelf is full or that shelf looks really good as it is and this new thing would not fit in. I pass on a lot of things now.
I only donate or gift really nice things that still have a lot of use ahead of them. The rest I throw away or burn. For me, once I decide to get rid of it, I have to do it quickly so I don’t second guess myself. I tell myself that my home is not a landfill. I pay taxes to support an actual landfill.
One of the few benefits from the COVID pandemic is ordering your shopping online and having it delivered or brought out to your car and loaded. I hate shopping personally, so I have taken full advantage of this. The great thing is I only buy what I need and am not tempted by anything else.
Absolutely love your channel. I cannot agree with throwing some things out. Use them up. Otherwise you are wasting your time and money. Living on a small hobby type farm I will never be a minimalist. Too many things can be repaired and repurposed. Also think that comes from how I was raised. Your channel so much respects that yet helps me get rid of excess. Thanks for what you do.
I sorted my cloest last year to see what I was/wasn't wearing. This video gave me the impetus to go through what hadn't been touched. I'm in the middle of a full house declutter.
I spent an entire week on my walk-in closet. Only spring/summer clothes that fit me right now are in my closet. The hangers are hung backwards. If I wear an item and enjoy it, I turn the hanger forward when I launder it and return it to my closet. The clothes that are still on backwards hangers at the end of summer will be donated since it will be obvious I never wore them from March-August.
Absolutely...give away to person, reuse, donate to shelters/charities. It us an extra step in deluttering, but well worth it! Once plastics are produced, they will eventually end up in tge landfill, but repurposing keeps it out longer.
Love the idea of not having to sacrifice a clean planet for a clean home! I diy almost all of my cleaning sprays except for the toilet/bathroom to keep as much plastics out of the landfill as possible.
Love that so much! I used to use cleaning chemicals without really thinking about the implications. Now I know they aren't necessary for a clean home! :)
so true- I agonize over my pots and pans, I find lids that go to nothing. I will try again and only focus on these items for a half hour thank you again
I was decluttering my linen closet and had a big pile of pillowcases. I figured a way to turn them into shopping bags. Thought it such a good idea that I made a video to share how easy it is.
3:45 Haha I paused the video to fill a trash bag with clothing that I had decided to donate earlier... just slowly keeping that decluttering wheel moving.
I have 2 dear friends. One is a pack rat, and the other is about a level 4 hoarder. I love them both but cannot be in their homes, because of the clutter but also because it's just not clean. They know I am a minimalist, they admire my home, so I have tried to gently encourage them to declutter and have helped one of them a little. Do you have anyone in your life like this? If so, how do you handle it or what do you commend? Perhaps a future video?
Thank you for sharing! I know this is an issue for a lot of people. It sounds like you're doing the right thing - gently encouraging them - maybe even offering to help! Love the idea of maybe a future video on this☺
Good advice! Inspired by one of your videos a few weeks ago, I think, I've started a "Declutter one item per day" project which is going well. I expect that we'll be moving in about 5 years after living in the same house for about 25 years. We've acquired a ton of crap that I don't want future-me to have to pack up and move. I calculated that if I eliminate just one unwanted item every day, that will be around 1,800 things by the time we're ready to move. 😃I'm curious to see how this will play out, and if I'll still be doing it after a year or so -- and if it will get to the point where it becomes difficult to find something I'm willing to part with. So far it has been so easy, and so far I'm not really seeing the difference, but my bet is that it will add up over time to a noticeably less cluttered home.
I feel exactly the same when I see videos where people are throwing away perfectly useable things that could be donated or recycled, the amount of unnecessary waste really bothers me.

Wow, what a great job!!
Even if tossing out one item a day you no longer use or pleases you is a great start ❤
I really like the idea of taking a box that just came in and filling it with stuff to get rid of!
Thank you! :)
People understand that their computers work better when you delete unnecessary apps and files. Same with a home.
😮

Love that!
I am a slow declutterer and our home is starting to look so good. If a vacuum each day it motovates me to declutter something.
Love that!
Same here.

Thank you for encouraging people not to just throw things in the garbage.
Thank you!
Yes--I can't stand to see anything useful go to waste, but it doesn't have to create clutter!

Awesome! It's a great way to at least use it all up ☺
Many good ideas. I enjoyed this video.😊❤
Thanks so much! 😊❤

Very smart , same here with me

I agree! I don't much like shopping either (only occasionally)!

Wishing you luck with the house declutter!

Yes!! My sister taught me this trick years ago.
Such a great way to figure out what you're truly wearing!

For sure! :)
Thank you! Take care
You too!

I use baking soda in vinegar to clean an inside of a toilet because I emptied the water in the ball...sprinkled baking soda..add vinegar.
so true- I agonize over my pots and pans, I find lids that go to nothing. I will try again and only focus on these items for a half hour thank you again
You are so welcome!!
Such great ideas, as always! We recently needed some liquid soap, so I repurposed an old bottle of shampoo.
Awesome!! 🤩

So cool!!

Ha, love it!!
I chuck so much stuff. I don’t dwell on it at all.
Love your recommendation to donate to pet shelters and rescue organizations! ❤
Thank you so much!
Thank you, I get so motivated lisi to your realistic videos and advice.
Thank you so much!
I have too many shoes and sneakers I am going to set a timer for a half hour just to declutter these items thank you
You got this!

I was telling myself this today.
Awesome!
Love your videos!

I know - so much waste :(
