Splake are capable of reproducing, by the way. Roughly 58% of them are fertile and have been found successfully reproducing with pure lake trout or brook trout. They are actually very concerned about them reproducing in Lake Superior.

Thanks for taking the time to comment and educate me. In the past when I initially talked to fish biologists and fish technicians they told me Splake had very little natural reproduction.
It’s great to here they are reproducing IMO but I’m sure others are worried because of a possible impact with native lake trout I’m assuming. I’d personally like to see more Splake seems as Lake Superior is as healthy as it’s ever been with Large cohos and Salmon, bigger Steelhead and Browns as well.

The cohos are running significantly bigger on superior this year. Usually a 20-23 inch average, been seeing tons of 28-30 inchers out there this year

Speaker are a cool and colorful fish. I caught my first one before we even knew they existed on Lake Huron. Thought I caught the state record brook trout as it was in full spawning colors

C'mon now..... No way splake and Coho eat better than perch and walleye!

I definitely love perch especially with the skin on. But Lake Superior Splake are superb and cohos blackened with lemon or lime is next level…. Crappies are great and gills as well but I’ll take perch or walleyes over crappies
