    Hi Todd. I have got the N1 ultra too. Did you say you have had the Dangbei mars pro and found this better? I love the brightness and colours on the N1, but the speckle sometimes makes the image a bit noisy. I'm thinking the lack of rainbow and speckle might make for a better image overall on the dangbei. Might get one to compare...

    • @OlyGoalie67
      @OlyGoalie67  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Adam, I highly prefer the N1...the Dangbei Mars Pro was my first laser projector I tried when I started into this finding a new projector business. I liked it for sure but I felt that the brightness wasn't there, the 3D didn't work great and at that time I still had my Epson 5050UB so it was too much of a difference in contrast so I returned the Dangbei. Since then I have gone through another 5 or 6 projectors with the N1 being the best buy far. I still see some speckle but it is so rare that it does nothing for ruining this amazing experience.

    • @OlyGoalie67

      Well I have not had an LS12000 in my room but I have had the LS11000 and back at that time I still had my 5050UB and the LS11000 didn't impress me enough to keep it over the 5050 and I returned the LS11000. That being said you can't compare a projector almost 2.5 times the price and expect parity. Just off of memory the N1 is sharper than the LS was, the screen uniformity is equal or better than the LS was, the colors are definitely spectacular (back to my comments on Quantamania, it literally left me speechless) but the one thing any DLP projector will not compare to against an Epson is contrast and black levels. That being said this N1 is the closest I have seen to matching an Epson, certainly close enough that in no way do I regret my choice or miss my Epson in any way.

  • @brucesmith1754
    @brucesmith1754 Год назад +1

    Most projectors have a 1.3 Zoom to a fixed lens which determines the distance allowed for a given screen size. Will this screen adjustment feature adjust to distance as well as image position. Rather than punching holes in my ceiling for a mount, I'd prefer to do what you did by mountin on my back wall which iis 17ft from a 100inch screen. My old projector had a 2.0 zoom lens which gave a range of 10 -20 feet to work with for my screen size. Will the JMGO adjust from the distances I mentioned? I think it has a fixed lens.

    • @OlyGoalie67
      @OlyGoalie67  Год назад +1

      Hey Bruce...the N1 does have a digital zoom feature that will allow you to shrink the screen size digitally if you have to mount the projector too far from the 'ideal' spot or distance. That being said it really is no different than using the Fit to Screen feature. Before I used that feature, the overshot of the picture size was outside the screen on all four sides including overshooting onto my ceiling but once I did the auto adjustment, it for perfectly to the screen. I would estimate that I am loosing about 15% to 20% of the pixels by doing so. Ultimately using the ceiling mount to allow you to get the projector closer to your screen so the majority of the fit is done physically will be a much better result. I have to be honest though...I'm not sure I can even see the difference in what I have lost by using the digital zoom or fit to screen feature.

    When is the last time you used the 5050UB? 1500:1 contrast is decent for single chip DLP but it shouldn't even be in the same universe as the 5050UB when it comes to black levels which is about 5000:1 calibrated.

The difference is the N1 is sharper and more focused than the 5050UB and the color from the triple laser is far superior to the 5050UB...I loved my Epson 5030, 5040 and 5050 but it was time for a solid state and no bulb...so glad I made the choice.

      @@OlyGoalie67 Right on. I currently have a few projectors but mainly use a 6050UB and a Vivitek HK2288 I snagged used to see how proper 4k looked in my theater.
      I actually really like the Vivitek for gaming on PS5/PC despite it's higher latency, the detail is night and day from the 6050UB, but it's not that noticeable in most film. The picture is not that far off from a buddies Formovie Theater to me, I feel like the HK2288 may actually have more detail due to the higher resolution DMD chip, but the Formovie has better colors for sure (over 100% of 2020). The 6050UB allows me to mount it off to the side while the HK2288 has to be centered.
      Movies are definitely more enjoyable to me on the 6050UB due to the much darker black levels. The HK2288 is not bad for DLP though, I measured it around 1900:1.
      If the N1 Ultra goes on sale I may be tempted to grab one and see how they all compare. I like seeing front projector tech advancing and not all the focus being on UST's. Maybe BenQ will respond with a proper solid state HT5550 successor.

      @@tbob2224 I have been involved with projectors since the days of the Sony CPJ100, one of the very first lifestyle consumer projectors back in the late 80s so I have seen many. The Epson 50 UB series from my original 5030 to my most recent 5050 were always amazing and yet I don't miss them in the least with this JMGO N1.

      @@OlyGoalie67 Nice, yeah at the $1199 kickstarter price it really seems like a steal.
      I think at $2299 it's a little harder to swallow as long term reliability is questionable and there is no brand reputation yet. Will have to see how things go over the next year or two.
      I think a two or even three year warranty would be a better for a newer brand like this to gain some brand loyalty/reputation if they are confident in the product.The Epsons all come with a minimum of 2y warranty and the 6050UB is 3y, Vivitek was 5y parts/labor and 3y advance replacement.
      Yeah, I've into projectors for a while as well (not quite as long though :D). I bought my first projector back in 2004, it was a 1024x768 Optoma, I put about 15,000 hours on that thing. :)

      Good eyes! Rainbows will always show with DLP projectors and are even more apparent when filming...that being said and I have commented previously that they are present but very limited and the least of any of the other projectors I have tried.

    • @tbob2224

      Are you sensitive to it? I tried videoing my HK2288 and I get zero rainbow effect in film (I do see what looks like scanlines but those aren't visible in person). I've seen the BenQ TH690ST which uses LED and the RBE was horrible in person and I'm not particularly sensitive to it, I have to look for it on the HK2288.

    • @OlyGoalie67
      @OlyGoalie67  Год назад

      @@tbob2224I'm not overly sensitive to it but I definitely notice it on the N1 occasionally. Not anywhere near as much as you see it when recording a video. Keep in mind I don't currently have the ideal set up either as I have not received my ceiling mount yet so the projector is currently overshooting the screen a ton as it has to sit on a shelf at the back wall of my room then using the fit to screen feature. Once I'm able to mount it accordingly that should improve things as well.

      @@OlyGoalie67 Right on. I've been unable to find a throw calculator for the JMGO, I'd be interested in how much vertical offset from the lens there is. If I were to use it I'd not want to use any of the digital scaling.
      I hope it sells well, I would really like to see another version with zoom, lens shift for more flexible positioning.
      An iris like the LS11000 would really help this thing get closer to inky black levels (think of how much the iris helps the BenQ HT5550 and it only has a native contrast of around 600:1).
      Something like the Epson level lens shift and a motorized lens would be great. With all that and keep it around $3k or so and they'd have a real winner for just about any use case.

      @@tbob2224 if you could have the N1 with the lens shift capabilities of the Epson UB series that would be amazing...but then it wouldn't be the size or convenience that the N1 has...you can shift it enough to make it fit without Keystone or fit to screen then that is ideal.
