I've always had good luck with Conner drives like this. They just seem like the drive you can shut off for a year and start up later and expect it to still continue working like nothing is wrong. Interesting story on this one! Glad that it still works just fine, you have been taking good care of it I'm sure!

Nice Connor! I rememberr them from back in the day and then I remember Conner made drives similar to the seagate medalist line, which had the silver cover. I had a 1.2GB drive from seagate from that line.

The Conner-based Seagate's are really nice! I gather it was something like the ST31276A? Really like those, the Conner sound remains strong.

@@bigbluebananabread yes that was the one. I definitely remember the seek test sound.

Conner. 'Nuff said, at least for an hard drive enthusiast :-D

I can tell you, you can actually use your capture card to capture benchmarks of old drives seperately as during benchmarks the screen resolution won't change

I vaguely recall giving it a go, but the adapter is very finnicky with signals that are already active. Overall, it's not the greatest experience in the end, but I'll hope to resolve that sometime soon.

How many platters does this have?

I'm pretty sure it has 2 platters since it spins up almost as quick as the other 4500RPM Conners

The speedsys graph reminds me of uhh 5318008.

That aside, the arrangement here is head 0 OD→ID, head 1 ID→OD, head 2 OD→ID and finally head 3 ID→OD (Conner was quite late to adopt zoned recording; when they eventually did so with the CP30344/CFA340A they switched to a normal layout, but before then they did as they pleased)

This is absolutely not a comment I expected, but the comparison is very apparent now hahaha. I'll forever see that now on this thing, which I'm not sure is a good thing or not lol
The layout is very interesting for sure. Certainly a different (yet interesting) method compared to surface-by-surface layouts (I'm not sure of the technical term for this, but found on the CP30104H & MK1034FC for example).
