Tampa Bay native here. I watched plenty of WFTS-TV back then. WTOG was the clear non-Big 3 leader here at the time, but WFTS-TV held its own, especially when it got the FOX affiliation in '88. The logo shown here is an improvement over what it used before.

i was well aware of the first one (countless comments about it) but the second one is a bit tricky, since it was an approximation in a list of IDs from 1979-1986. i had gotten the idea that in 1984, they were using a CGI logo, so I assumed it was before then.
Speaking of WMTV, In their place to be ident, The logo is shown to be flying as what seems to be crew look in surprise, and in this ident, it's shown to be in the clouds, with your subtitling of: "The ghost of WMTV." WMTV LORE COMFIRMED?! (real)
