RIP Maxene Black, the news reporter passed away in 2016. She was only 37 here. Hard to believe that there has been enough time since this was originally aired for half a life to go by. As a 45 year old it reminds me of how quickly time & life passes.
So true ya never really truly understand the phrase life is too short until ya get older I'm 42 now and it seems like yesterday I was that kid in the 80's playing those original games
Once home systems started getting better the writing was on the wall. But there’s still nothing like the feeling of being in the arcade full of people.
Wait so let me get this straight, the say the atari is taking too much of kids times but they're telling to you to go buy it before it runs out. Classic 80s television hahahaha
The funny thing is, even back then us kids knew most of the home games weren't that great. Atari's own games for the 2600 were the worst, that's why we were big fans of Activision's games and some other manufacturer's games. Their "Pac-Man" adaptation especially made everyone furious. And the handheld "arcade" games were a complete joke. When Nintendo came out with their home system, it really was a huge step forward.
I remember in the early 1980s, my Dad's friend telling him "my boys want a $300 fuckingatari", "I'd rather get them new hunting rifles or something worth $300".
1980 Game companies: "We should just put out more and more games on more and more systems with no regard for quality control. People will buy anything. It's not like the video game crash of 1977 will happen again in the near future." 1983 Game Companies: " I never saw this coming!"
I was 1 year old in Christmas '80. My first games console was the NES in 1988, so I missed out on a lot of these very early attempts at home video games.
@@jonesy585 Playing video games takes up time kids could be using to study math. It seemed like fun at the time, but in retrospect, the consequences should have been obvious.

My Dad got my brother and I an Intellivision , man I never realized how much those things were, $300 in 80’ ? Wow and the games were $20 each give or take. That’s big $ now

That's what the Intellivision controller looked like. It had a number pad. The games came with little overlays so you could see what the buttons did. Atari went the other way : just one button. Turns out Intellivision had the right idea, but in the wrong shape.
They should of listened to the parents that were against video games... We are going on 4 generations of children and adults that are addicted to computers and video games like crack in the 80s
These people back then would literally be mind blown by the games in 2021
horrible games
and in 2040 theyll say the same about 2021
Most Americans probably were still using typewriters in the 1980s.

Im amazed how quickly the life of the Atari 2600 passed too.
7 hours...rookie numbers
I don't think you or I or anyone living today would be able to play an 8-bit game for 7 hours.... Pac-Man for 7 hours? No thanks! LOL!!
I love that this was brought back
I love how you can tell it's the 80's just by the hairstyles
And the title of the video.
It’s 1980. Styles were still pretty much like the 70s. 80s fashion and styles didn’t start until about 1983.
@@RJS1974actually the 80s look was starting in 1978-79. I was there. Bellbottoms and big lapels were out. This distinctly looks like the early 80's.

And mobile games are doing the same thing now

Yup. Life sucks and is short.
This is from 1981, not 1980.
$300 in 1980 was alot of money.. Geez
Sure was.

Poor marketing - should have said, "They are selling-out quick, so pick one up now before they are all gone!" (even if they are heavily overstocked).
Nothing excited me more of that time than those games!
This 📒 is a undistinguished status. It stayed the same
