Interesting!! I saw a picture a couple days ago, while looking for updated emulators, of an opened red V90 and it HAD the rumble motor in it which is suppose to be located on that round white patch below the shoulder buttons where OTOM is printed, those 2 contacts are for the wires to power it, I've read there's also 5 capacitors no longer included due to the discontinuation of the rumble feature, though one person tested a rumble motor with Gambatte_rumble emulator and reported it worked. doubt my Black V90 has the motor. no big loss... I guess =,( Thanks for opening this bad boy up! =D
I have an original GPD XD in metallic wine red. It's still a thing of beauty. I feel drawn to metallic hand consoles like the Ambernic 351mp and such. The other day I was thinking to myself, I still have a can of Olympic white spray-paint from the last car scrape. The V90 sure would look pretty in white. A little kitchen scrubber action to get rid of the protective coating and it should stick. Your teardown vid is nudging me one step closer.
@@TG_Geek Android retro game devices do not fare well with time. The original game downloading app 'Happy Chick' no longer works. The x button has been known to stick. I have an old APK for 'Carmageddon' and usually exclusively use it to play that. I sunk hundreds of hours into that game as a teen, so having a beautiful dedicated red system in a glass display case does bring me joy.
Thanks for the video. I sometimes buy the cheap handhelds to look what chips are in them and try to draw out how the circuit works. What the chips do etc.. Just for fun.. V90 is probably the best price to performance. The updated software really does make it really good. I suspect there will be other gb sp types of handhelds coming this year.
The coolest part to me was that it seemed that there were prewired contact pads to all the buttons, so if you wanted to replace the face buttons with switches for example it's capable of that with little trouble.
Suppose one could design a larger case for the display, do you think there's any chance we could use a larger display (like 3.5") that would connect in the v90 motherboard? the 2.8" (actual size) of v90 is one of the few things keeping me from playing it more than other devices. I'm a 3D artist, but know little of electronics, so if it's feasible I could try designing one.
I imagine it would be possible, but I don’t have the technical expertise personally either. A shell that doesn’t have a hinge to hold the stock components is pretty interesting to me however.
Hey man, I know this is a hard problem but I just want to know if there's a way to fix my V90. Dumb request, but I really wanted to finish Fire Red. I dropped my V90 on accident and it won't power on, so I decided to just open it from the inside to get an idea what's the problem, but I only can open the back and not the front. The SD Card has no problem, I'm assuming it's a screen problem If you can help me it would mean SO much to me. Thanks in advance!
I don’t know much about board repairs or anything like that. My only recommendation is to swap your sd card into a separate v90. Or rather plug it into your pc and find the save file and load it to a pc emulator if you are worried about your save file. I doubt there’s much that can fix the console but you might be able to save the save files.
@@TG_Geek well I did some digging around to my goofy v90 and I actually managed to make it charge, I'm just hoping it might be a problem with the lcd or so
After tinkering around, I sort of fixed it it would play and work ONLY if it was charging and I had to use a bloated battery to make it work is that good and still any way to fix??
@@LowcastleTech I saw your recent video about trying to power gpus using a whole setup with a different psu, so I just recently found out you can buy 8 pin ATX (Dell mobo pin) to standard 24 pin adapter to use any psu in an office pc. They're like $10 on Amazon and I may snag one soon to put something wild into a Dell lol
@@TG_Geek Nice. I actually have a couple of those. Did an OptiPlex vid like way back where I used one, worked out pretty well. And I have another for HP I haven't got to try yet. Those ones are weird because they have the 6pin ATX connector, but then there is like another small 6 pin header I don't even know what it's called. It's rectangular like a 4pin molex but very small. Every time I try to google info it just assume I'm talking about the 6pin ATX and I can't get any useful results 😂. Those adapters are really cool though.

The GPD systems have always been on the pricey side, but do you enjoy yours?

Case replacements would be cool.
Really would be, I’m sure with the popularity they may start appearing

@@TG_Geek have you ever tried making your own handheld? Or modding any to make it better?
@@jobearesto9746 Nothing yet, but I do have some raspberry pis with retro pi so I suppose I could

If you opened the case and there was a little gnome in there with a bunch of levers and buttons would you just pretend you never saw it?
We got a deal going, if he minds his business I don’t worry about him 😂
@@TG_Geek Hahahah, that's fair. Plus he's gotta keep those emulators rolling with the gnome magic, that's the key.
