Can't help but smile when he says,"I had to smile when I heard them turn Red out. Cause I was headed north to Tennessee and Ol' Red was headed south."😂😂😂 Also love how the last line of the song just ties up the end in a little bow. Great reaction!
Why did he have to convince his record deal for him to release the song? I'm assuming it was already well-known since George Jones did the song originally.
I saw him perform this song 20 years ago as an opening act for a Toby Keith concert. I won tickets to the concert from a local country radio station. The tickets included a meet-and-greet with Blake. I have a picture of Blake standing between my sister and me with his arms hugging us. Even though my sister and I were "some" years older than Blake, we both acted like a couple of groupies. He's changed a bit since then and so have my sister and I, but we still love him! ❤
🔥🔥🔥When he says “ waited for the time to get right”, he is referring to the blue tick female coming into her heat or breeding cycle. When a male dog smells the smell in the air, they can smell it for miles, that’s all they will do is go to it. It’s Impossible to get them to track or work. It’s pure instinct and that’s what they were counting on so he could get away.
Actually this is my favourite Blake song and his other song Austin was when he was much younger and oh my God he was so handsome❤❤ you should check out his live version with his ex-wife You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma and it's the first time they met and you can see the chemistry between them❤❤

Love that song & love Blake Shelton! You have to go to one of Blake's bars/restaurants called Ole' Red (named after this song.) They have great food, souvenirs & live entertainment. Blake & others from The Voice have performed there. I went to the one in Nashville, TN. Also one in Gatlinburg, TN, one in Ada, Ok. where Blake grew up & I think Florida has one. Last I heard they were building one in Vegas! You & Ali would enjoy it. If you go to the one in Nashville, TN on Broadway the whole street is full of country music stars restaurant/bars. Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Kid Rock, Miranda Lambert & many others have one there too and it's a sight to see! Just get out of your car & walk down the street from one to another. You do have to pay for parking & it's crowded, but it's awesome!
The dog portraying Ol' Red was the actual dog named Ol' Red that lived at the Angola Prison in Louisiana. There's quite the history behind that prison and those stories. The podcast Bloody Angola is quite the podcast!! A must listen!!
What’s really cool about this song is that the story is based in truth (as all good stories are)! We’ve actually met someone with a descendant of Ol’ Red & his lady!
Ole Red is Blake’s trademark. Love Blake his whole career. we were a music family and his Blake started out. My son was in the music deep and we listen to every CD over and over and over wonderful wonderful memories.
His cousin driving the getaway pickup is retired nascar driver Elliott Sadler. The Sadlers had Blake, Miranda. Bucky Covington and Lee Brice on their farm for nascar party a few years ago.
Ole Red is a classic. One of my other fave videos is Honey Bee. Very sweet in every way. And the ULTIMATE duet is Hillybilly Bone with Trace Atkins. Absolutely hilarious - and a great song. Cheers from Canada :)
Iove Blake Shelton and grew up with a bunch of Plott Hounds. Blood Hounds are excellent scent hounds, but somewhat intolerant of heat. My Dad sold several dogs to police agencies and I love seeing them at work!
It's always great when someone comments how under rated a song is when Ol' Red and Austin are literally the two songs that put Blake Shelton on the map. Don't get me wrong, he had plenty of wonderful music ahead of him at this time in his career, but how can a double platinum song be under rated?
If you really love country songs that tell a story, then you have to listen to several of Ray Stevens hits from the 70s through the 90s. There are three in particular that I absolutely love and I’m sure that you and your subscribers will enjoy as well. “The Mississippi Squirrel Revival” - “It’s Me Again Margaret” - “Sitting Up With the Dead” … these are all classics, and I would love to see your reaction to them! 😊
I've always liked this song! Great reaction Sebs! If you want a really fun and upbeat song by Blake, check out The Boys Round Here. I think you'll like that one!
Great reaction. Another song you should consider doing a reaction for is - Chad Brock's - Lightning Does The Work from Chad's first album - which is Self-Titled.
If you haven’t already checked it out, please watch Keith Urban singing “Blue Ain’t Your Color”. It’s my favorite and I think that you would really enjoy it!
Alot of times this song reminds me of the story of when my mom worked at the prison she had a little old former teacher as her secretary who was in there because she had always told her husband if she ever caught him cheating she’d kill them both and made true to her promise
Sebastian you have to check out Linda Ronstadt you can start with blue Bayou which is live in concert you can do desperado Which is also live in concert, and you could do her Mexican mariachi band live performance of La Charreda. You will be blown away by all three and want to see more and more and more of that living legend herself with a one-of-a-kind voice.
If you like storylines and country songs that tell stories you MUST give a listen To Johnny Paycheck’s song called Outlaw’s Prayer… Hass to be a true story. Nobody could make up the lyrics like this. Look for the video that shows him sitting on stage in a purple striped shirt. That’s the one you need to watch you will really enjoy it.
It's easy to miss on the first listen, but "so I kept him away for three or four days, and waited till the time got right" is implying that he waited until the female dog was IN HEAT! Hence the look on the warden's face when they catch up with Ol' Red, and the "red-haired blueticks" at the end of the song. 😂
I've never taken it that he was waiting 'til she was in heat. IMO, he was just keeping Ol' Red away, for 3 or 4 days to make him want the blue tic hound real bad, when he was finally let loose---that way, it ensured that he wouldn't do anything else, but go to her.
@@catwhisperer9489 The fact that there’s “red haired bluetick” puppies at the end of the song pretty much necessitates that she was in heat at the time. 🙃 Plus if you’ve ever been around a male dog when there’s a female in heat within a mile or two, you know that it’s the best way to ensure they’ll be headed in the right (or wrong? haha) direction!
