The green scotch brite scrub sponges with bar keepers friend would wipe all of that out. A rag just doesn’t have any grit to it.
Yep.. you are right. 😅 a rag pfff will not do a thing😅
BON AMI. the best non toxic cleaner on the market. BON Ami and sos will clean off rust
The way to use barkeepers friend is to make a paste of hot water and barkeepers friend and let it sit. Then scrub a bit and the entire thing should come clean.
Yes. Make a paste with bar keepers friend. Let it sit.
I agree you need a scrubie with bar keepers friend.
You didn't mention that Bar Keeper's Friend costs half as much as The Pink Stuff. I would scrub for a few more seconds for that reason alone.
And I'd let it soak for a few minutes.
I know my comment comes late… but scrub with your knuckles and not your finger tips. Your hands won’t hurt ❤
I have both BKF and The Pink Stuff, I still prefer BKF. You just use it as a paste and it’s cheaper.
For effortless cleaning with Bar Keepers:
Inside a pan: sprinkle it and add just a little water to keep it moist. Let it sit for several hours or overnight & then wash with dish soap.
For pot bottoms: make a paste with the powder & water & apply it to the pan. If it looks like it’s drying out, spritz it with water from a spray bottle. Let it sit overnight & then wash it with dish soap.
I make a paste and cover it with a wet cloth to sit!
Bar keepers works great when you use the correct cleaning tool. A rag soaks up the powder so you use more and one finger isn't sufficient to cover any are other than a small circle. PLUS I feel you scrubbed harder/better on with your favorites.
How or why did they get that bad?
Oh you got them at the thrift store. Sorry.
I agree! When she used the pink stuff she already had and still had Bar Keepers Friend on her rag! Rinsing in that small amount of water all of the Bar Keepers would not have come out!
Yup, used little fingertips for bkf and all fingers spread out for pink stuff. Plus blowing bkf all over the place, basically was scrubbing without the powder lol. Also, way over did it on how better it cleaned, was not much better.
I noticed that too.
Bar keepers friend and the silver scrubber together to remove the bad stuff off the pan
In all honesty you are using way more of The Pink Stuff than an equal amount of Bar Keeper's Friend. Of course, a paste is easier to apply and spread because it already has some moisture in it. I use BKF for most things because it doesn't scratch and I use it on my glasstop stove with no issues. I think the price is fair and the product is easy to find. I just looked up where to buy TPS and it says that Target and Home Depot have it as well as some Walmart stores. The price seems to be about $10 but it could be worth it if it works for you. I tend not to buy many different cleaning products. I use BKF for my glasstop stove, stainless steel sink, stainless steel pots and pans, bathtub, shower, sinks and toilet. It's nice to have options though, isn't it?
The copper bottomed skillet needed an acid base, vinegar, katsup, lemon.
Lemon 🍋 & kosher salt 🧂 perhaps...
Yes. My mother used salt and vinegar on her copper bottom pans. It did a good job!@@Pamela.B
It wasn't Copper bottomed, it was Steel.
Make a paste with barkeepers friend . It was formulated for stainless bar sinks . I use it all the time .
I missed you for a long time. Got sick I August and am now a lot better. Glad to see you again.
I love your videos! As far as barkeeper's friend (I use it at home and at work) you need to get the surface wet and sprinkle it on and then scrub it off. I like pink stuff as well but I have scrubbed 20+ years of grime (my mom's cookware) with barkeeper's friend.
Just spray the bottoms with oven cleaner. Leave overnight. Works!
Thinking the same.
I have heard if you sprinkle with baking soda and then vinegar. Place a paper towel over it for 30 minutes works
For the price difference, I would stick with Bar Keepers. For really bad stains, I spray and leave oven cleaner on for a while.
I cut my Brillo/sos in half. Cause I don’t like the rust either
Pink stuff or BKF all the way and use a green scrubbie pad when needed.
Bar Keepers Friend works wonders in all kinds of cleaning situations. Trick is to let it sit a bit and use the proper scrubbing tool (that rag is useless, even for washing dishes).
I’ll stick to my bar keepers friend
I find bkf superior.
Follow the directions of Bar Keepers.... apply to wet surface, let sit, works great.
Like your side by side comparisons. Haven't seen Pink paste here, yet. I have the spray. I love Bar Keepers friend. Just a word to others, please be careful mixing chemicals to clean in your kitchen or any where. Burnedcand scared my lungs in my 20's. Never been the same since. Thank you for all you do. Usually I'm a silent watcher.
I use either bar keepers or comet with silver scrubber...you need to try that. Using a rag isn't as effective as a scrubber...in my opinion.
Get yourself a drill and cleaning attachment for cleaning stuff that takes that much elbow grease.
I'd like to see a video on that !!!
❤i do this
You need to make a paste out of the barkeeper's friend and let it says on the container how long you should leave it on for really tough ones.
I have fibromyalgia too and can’t scrub. My husband used to scrub the shower for me. He passed away in September. Could you do a test on bathroom products to clean tile with hard water spots?
Praying
So sorry for your loss x
Wow, what a lot of work for this analysis. Very helpful. Thank you for doing this!
For very bad stains on pots, you can boil some water, dissolve dishwasher powder and boil the dirty pot in a larger pot. Do not smell the fumes, air out. Should come off, or leaving oven cleaner on covered with papertowel for several hours.
I buy a good pants from the thrift store I initially use oven cleaner and then I clean them with my bar keeper and a green sponge from then on
For stainless, i like Barkeepers Friend with assorted numbers of fine steel wool. If im feeling frstrated, i moisten the Barkeepers Friend with lemon juice out of the bottle. I dont know if the lemon juice is particulaly good or better but that cupboard is a few steps and one reach away; and that certainly makes things feel better.
I now use the Barkeeper's in the Liquid with your favorite scrubby...Presto!! It is wonderfully good for me.
The pink stuff and the brillo pad would have been an interesting combo.
I found a round electric buffet skillet and a St Vincent de Paul for almost nothing. This type sells for over $100. It was covered with cooked on grease. No burned, just real gummy.
I tried the old standby Blue Dawn and white vinegar along with an SoS pad. I never dreamed it would come out so shiny and beautiful. It did. And then I plugged it in and it worked too!
I use the same recipe thinned with water to kill boxelder bugs.
I’ve had great results using The Pink Stuff to clean my stainless steel kitchen appliances. After I cleaned the front of my stainless dishwater one afternoon, all evening my husband kept asking me what was that wonderful smell in the house. And this is a man who notices nothing. I’ve had great results with The Pink Stuff but I use it with a wet (not damp) microfiber cloth for best results.
Thanks for your helpful video. 👍🏼
I have a step-by-step cleaning process where I start low and then you stronger and stronger cleaners if it’s warranted. I usually start with baking soda and vinegar and then will also add salt and even lemon juice if needed. Then I will move up to barkeepers friend and the pink stuff. I use non-scratch scrubbing pads and then if it’s real bad I’ll use a brush. For super tough pans steel wool works very well. For my every day cleaning I use a combination of Dawn and vinegar and then things like scrubbing bubbles toilet cleaner. If stains on the oven are too bad for the baking soda and vinegar then I might get out some oven cleaner. If you need to use oven cleaner sometimes it’s good just let it sit overnight. Same with any cleaner if you let it sit overnight. There’s a video out there is someone using ketchup on the bottom of pans - that might work.
Thank you for the video! Loving these!
Wow... The pink stuff appears to be some good stuff!
Loved your show Tawra🥰 ⭐🌞found so relaxing seeing pans scrubba dubbed, thanks for your work !X,yay for pink stuff to 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
If you make a paste out of the baking soda and let it sit for 10-15 minutes it will work on enamel, like on a stove, it works like a miracle. I haven't tried it on pots and pans because mine are all clean. Also, the SOS pad doesn't rust if you squeeze it out and put on a surface where it gets air to dry out, like a soap dish that has holes on the bottom. The Pink Stuff has never worked for me, but I don't remember what I bought it to use on! LOL There is a product called Kleen King, it's a powder and it's for Copper and Stainless Steel. Also, the products might work better if you used one of those sponges that has a rough surface or I use these and love them Scotch-Brite Clean & Rinse Scrubber, they are purple with white dots and they are for non-stick pans, but I use them on everything.
Ive always been a believer in Barkeeper's Friend, but Im gonna be on the lookout for that pink stuff. If its cheaper, that would probably be the best choice. I do think the oven cleaner probably would have done a good job if you had let it set for a few hours. Its so harsh that wouldn't want to use it on a regular basis, but it works better on my grill. Thanks for the great comparison test Tawra!
It's not cheaper thats for sure but I do buy both and bon ami is my favorite.
I use oven cleaner on my glass baking dishes, baking sheets etc.
I use #0000 Steel Wool on my SS pots and pans from JC Penny. It‘s very fine steel wool and after almost 30 years my stainless steel still looks new. If there’s a bad grease buildup on the bottom of the pan, I use Kleen King with the steel wool. My mother always used something called Cameo on her Lo-Heet brand stainless steel cookware from the 1950’s. My brother is now the proud owner of that set and it looks great!
For the INSIDE, I have used crushed use and salt. I think it is something about freezing it (salt lowers temp and serves as an abrasive, I think).
Thank you sister 😊
I use the comet and the sos to get rid stubborn .
Bar keepers friend never seen to work for me and no bleach .
Try the oven cleaner over night. Cover the whole bottom of the pan with the foam, put cling wrap over it and leave over night. Then it should wipe off with the cloth with no scrubbing required.
Please do another video with the oven cleaner. I love these testing videos.
Thank you for the comparison. I love these videos. Much cheaper than me having to trial and error the products. Win! :)
@Rosa-kf6yy I agree!
Agree
The main ingredient in Bar Keepers Friend is oxalic acid.
The Pink Stuff ingredients are quartz, baking soda, sodium carbonate, glycerin, acid red 52 (for coloring).
Quartz, as in silica sand, is used as an industrial abrasive among its other uses. That would fi in with the “all natural” business. Ground down fine enough it’s just a better abrasive than steel wool, Comet and baking soda.
I'm ready to take a dremel to some of mine 😂.
Dad (81) uses a grinder to get out the burnt coffee inside pan
I have been using bar keepers for years and love it
Best solution I found... An older Itialian restaurant owner uses plain old dirt and water. The dirt has great scrubbing particles and rises clean. The go wash with soap and water.
I spray the bottom with oven cleaner and put it in a paper bag and leave on for 24 hours. It will take almost all crude off. I even use it in baking dishes. My favorite to clean my sink is bar keepers friend.
Easiest I have ever found is Greased Lightning. Spray on dry, wait two minutes, wipe. Don't use on painted surfaces. Don't stand directly over it, the stuff takes my breath away.
Try the pink stuff or bar keepers friend with your favorite scrubby. That should really do it!
The gel bar keepers friend is the only thing that will get my cast iron sink and tub white with our well water.
Love your videos !!!😊😊
Nice to know what may work on these pans!
On a previous video, you mentioned you were going to stock your pantry back up. You should do a few videos on that, like how you choose what to buy and how much, a shopping video, and a video you filling it. Maybe how you find good prices on those.
Every time my grandmother cooked Sauerkraut...., afterwards washing dishes, that pot was shining 🌟😅
Bar Keepers Friend does a great job, yes when you have let your pans get that bad, it will take some good elbow grease, but it gets it very shiny.
Your choices of pans are interesting--I love both of them! I've had Farberware (like your smaller one) for 38 years and loved them. Frankly, I usually don't bother or care much about the outside of the pan! And the inside of both of those pans looked fine to me, at least on video. I've recently started using a few pans like the big one you chose. In fact, I have one exactly like that I feel disloyal do Farberware, but I like the big one because it's Induction ready and mine has a glass lid. Wow! I LOVE glass lids! I may start shopping thrift stores for glass lids for the Farberware that I still intend to use! Actually since the kids are grown, I probably have enough cookware. And I don't think I want to give my Farberware to the kids because I'd rather they had cookware with glass lids!
That’s interesting on the glass lids. I actually love the Farberware lids because the little black knob handles don’t get hot, whereas the glass ones have metal handles and you have to use a hot pad because they get so hot!
Do you not experience this??
When I had copper bottom pans I used Cameo copper cleaner and they cleaned quick and beautifully! I haven't tried BKF, I always use Bon Ami, it doesn't hurt my hands and cleans my porcelain sink really nice.
Twinkle is the best. Used it for many, many years. I finally found in on Amazon. Hope they still carry it.
Get Wright's glass stove top cleaner for those pan bottoms! Besides doing a great job cleaning glass stove tops, it works great on the inside of your oven door and the window (which the manual says to clean before doing a self-cleaning), it does a super job on aluminum shower frames, cookies sheets, pans (both inside and out, but not on non-stick!), old tools, and all kinds of things. It's not as cheap as cleanser, but it'll do it faster and you don't need much to get the job done. A bottle will last a long time. I really like the heavy-duty Wright's, but the regular works good, too. Frankly, I've never found baking soda works well on anything I've tried to clean with it. I also LOVE a water, white vinegar, and a bit of regular Dawn soap mixture to clean our walk-in shower and bathtubs - better to SQUIRT or POUR it on the area to be cleaned - you DO NOT want to SPRAY IT on because of the fumes! We like using bar soap instead of pricey body wash and this mixture cuts the soap scum and hard water stains like nothing else I've ever tried, including toilet cleaner and Comet cleanser on our 40-year-old fiberglass shower pan.
Use oven cleaner and let it sit out in the sun on a hot day for an hour
I also use oven cleaner but I put the pans in a garbage bag and leave it outside.
I use oven cleaner too. Leave half an hour. It all slides off
I love Pink Stuff! I use it on basically everything. I watch for sales on Amazon.
ILOVE using my oven cleaner for pots and pans even the 1$can at dollar tree/dollar store 😊thanks for the reviews
Try putting both pans in a garbage bag with a cup of ammonia. Close the bag really well and let it sit overnight outside. Than scrub. Works great with oven racks too. The ammonia gas dissolves the grime.
Try all the cleaners with the stainless steel scrubby you prefer..... Using the same scrubber would give a more consistent evaluation.
Thanks for the comparison testing. I use bar keeper friend on my kitchen sink... porcelain not stainless steel. I haven't seen the pink stuff but I am not out shopping much anymore. I do appreciate your efforts here though. Have a Blessed day.
I try not to use much water when using bar keepers. Have never used the pink stuff. Will check it out.
The silver thing you said you liked, I think the name brand is chore boy, I once used on a second hand pan in a sink of hot dawn dish water and it brought it back to nearly brand new condition with not too much scrubing. It was in pretty much the same as yours at first.
I use the pink stuff with chain mail. Cleans every time
What is chain mail?
Interesting. Thanks.
I used the Pink stuff from Dollar Tree on my tiles in the shower and it did a great job.
Boil water and put baking soda and emmerse the bottom of the pot then scrub with coarse sander sponge to look like brand new snd its easy
Use comet with the steel scrubby. Works everytime.
No thank you I will stay with my Brasso and green scratchy
For stainless, Cold oven cleaner, put it in a cold over overnight and it will wipe off in the morning. We used it all of the time when we did estate sales.
Try using an SOS pad it works great also works on the glass baking dishes don't scratch.
Awesome video. I wonder what would love to see the same video done using ceramic coated pans.
Great video!!
I just bought Barkeepers Friend for Stainless Cookware. We have brand new stainless cookware. I use the BF with a Curlie Kate and it works great. Curlie Kate is what I call your little scrubby thing. I am more concerned about the inside of the pan than the outside.
Ive always used comet & steel wool & it works but does take time ! If the pan is really bad I spray it with oven cleaner & put in a plastic grocery bag & sit outside for a day or more. Mine have came back to brand new finish on them !! Also if I am trying to clean/reseason old rusty cast iron that method works to get off the built up carbon !
Use the BKF properly, ie smarted not harder. Make a paste, apply it cover with a damp cloth to keep it wet and leave it for 10 minutes. Then wipe it clean, no scrubbing required and it costs a whole lot less than the pink stuff.
tried it doesn't work like that. Instructions on bottle say don't leave it for more than 1 minute.
I have always used amway scrub buds. Inexpensive they don’t rust and last without scratching. Sometimes I have a hard time to find them but I finally did.
Try the baking soda with peroxide. Makes a paste. Excellent degreaser. No matter what you use, as long as your surface is not "non-stick", use the stainless steel scrubbie. We use them and BKF on our commercial kitchen pans. Keeps them looking new.
I have the Pink Stuff and Barkeepers Friend. I love Barkeepers Friend for my pots and pans. I use a scrubbie on the insides of the pans. I don’t want to scratch the outside.
I just noticed the pan with the handle and spout that Jill gives as gifts. I saw it on one of your episodes several years ago and have not been able to find that episode since. Would you mind sharing the information to purchase one? Thank you. Many years ago, I used Spic and Span to clean up the bottom of some old copper bottomed pots. It worked wonderfully!
The pink stuff has been around for many years, used a lot in commercial cleaning of metal parts by a large airplane manufacturer. My husband brought it home for me. Best thing about it, it’s non toxic, no fumes. Great for tiles, porcelain or glass stove tops.
Did your recipe for home made degreaser for pans. I just mixed it in a 8 ounce water bottle until I get the foaming one on sale then refill. Those sos pads smell horrible. Good tip putting in freezer. Ty for the info. God bless the Kellam fam and Jill.
I don't usually leave the oven cleaner on for more than a few minutes for my pans, but they may not be a soiled as the ones in your video
Liquid BarKeepers Friend Works great for me!
Use the green scrub pad with the barkeeper
Bar keepers liquid and a scrub daddy is my favorite combo! Also great to clean the enamel on the inside of a dutch oven!
Pink stuff and a clean rag got my stainless steel pan brand new. It wasn't as used as this one, but it was dirty.
When I buy nasty pans from the thrift store I soak them in vinegar water or straight vinegar overnight, then work at scrubbing them clean.
Ive had success with good old fashioned SOS pads
Use the Pink Stuff with a brillo pad, that will likely clear the bottom of the pans quickly.
I use ketchup on my pans. I spread the ketchup over the pan and let it soak for about 1/2 hour, rinse off, repeat and scrub on spots that didn't come off. My daughter uses Pink Stuff.
Never tried pink stuff but I think in many applications bar keepers friend is the bomb. That along with steel wool and/or a metal loop pad it does the trick. Another thing that I've done is let the bar keepers friend sit a bit as a paste and less elbow grease later. Unless it's in the oven I would spray the oven cleaner outside as it's nasty stuff. Spraying the item (if safe ) and leaving it outside for a few hours or more works like a charm. So I've heard.
Bar keepers friend also comes in a past now too and if you use hot water on the sponge it works alot better too to help remove grease and oil build up
Okay I use Lysol concentrate in the brown bottle mixed just like I do the dawn it takes that black off better than anything but it does need to set for just a bit. I use it to clean fireplace window black runs off.
