So far for my 2007 Mini Cooper S Manual Trans, things that have broken within a month of buying in order from 1st to break to most recent to break are, Timing Chain,Clutch,Return Hose and Sunroof Motor.
Now ive fixed all of these things besides the sunroof in my own garage.
I wouldn't say they are hard to fix by far the hardest thing to do was lock the cams when doing the timing chain that little lock has to be a perfect fit and you may see videos of people altering the lock but never do the lock does indeed fit its just has to be perfect be patient you will get it done.
    0 Accident reports
just hit 103,000 miles i bought it at 89,200
i do push the car im not gonna lie living in Houston we are known for just street racing anything n trust me ill floor it past 120 and drift it.
if you dont want to fix things dont push ur car past its daily driving limits
watch your oil your coolant and always check under the car ive found most the problems that Minis can have are easily found just by looking at those 3 things ive owned 3 mini coopers in my life an ive loved all 3 of them ive never wrecked a car ive never been in a wreck but all my cars some how end up getting pushed 4 houses down at 5 in the morning by drunk drivers im not mad either becasue it just means i started with a $800 car at 18 out my own pocket n moved up to a $8,000 car all free out of insurance and my rates are perfect lol so dont fuck your shit up just let the drunks do it for u

I just bought a 2005 Cooper S. Only paid 4200. Has 145,000 miles. The place I bought it from had new radiator, thermostat, water pump, coolant tank replaced. They also replaced the clutch and pressure plate, power steering pump, alternator and battery. I think I got a pretty nice deal on it. It really is fun to drive!

My R53's power steering pump started to fail intermittently at 34,000 miles. It was very disconcerting when steering around corners, losing the power steering for a split second then it coming back on again. If you've never experienced it, it is hard to imagine just how heavy the steering becomes on a MINI when the pump fails; heavier than a 1980s car designed with no power steering.
I'm at 60,000 miles on the original clutch, which occasionally slips but still puts up with abuse and feels fine most of the time. The clutch pedal was heavy when I bought the car at 17,500 miles and has not become noticeably heavier over time.
My 2003 Cooper S is the most reliable and fun car I've owned in 30 years of driving. Maintenance costs, including tyres, minor accident damage and minor vandalism repair have averaged £421 ($542) per year over a 13 year period, including £2,067 ($2,661) I have had to spend on the car in 2018. My annual mileage is only 4,000 but is mostly short trip city driving on potholed London roads.

    • @Azonicracing
      @Azonicracing  6 лет назад

Mine is starting to go now, at low speeds it will not re-center and is very heavy. Lots of fun when it first starts to happen!

It cost me £531 ($715 at today's rate) to replace it in 2011, including fitting. That was at expensive London prices. Hopefully you will get it cheaper, or at least your arm muscles will get a free and regular workout.

Drive Offen when you replace the clutch kit if you're not doing a race clutch, look at the Valeo single mass flywheel conversion. ModMini YT page has a link for it on Amazon. Used it on my clutch replacement and much more appropriate feel than the OE and more durable as well.

I have a 2008 R56 S-model hatch and love it. Clutch went out at 115k. Put a new clutch in at the dealership and it was very light on the pedal at first but within two months it was stiff and hard again. So, don't think a stiff clutch pedal is a sign the clutch is old.

I'm a happy owner of an R50. Can only agree with you on point 5. I do hear some squeaks and rattles, but remember this is a cheap car, not a limo, and anyway I always drive with my radio on. The boot becomes huge when you drop down the rear seats, which you can do most of the time as this isn't t the kind of car you usually drive with more than one passenger. Steering is just fine to me. If I had to name a few gripes, it would be:
    1. The lack of storage room around the front seats. The glove box and door compartments are tiny and there isn't any other space available to put away your stuff.
    2. The gear lever is very stiff and unpredictable. I often have to struggle to get it from one shift to another. The weird thing is, it happens randomly. Not sure if my Mini needs a gear lever replacement.
    3. No auto-winding down or up for the passenger window. At first I thought my window engine was broken, until I learnt this is Mini's normal way. I hope they fixed that in Mini's newer gens.
    4. It can be quite noisy when driving at high speeds with wind blowing sideways. I think this is due to the frameless windows letting the air pass through.

Ive dozens of cars (almost 50) and had a gen1 997 4S a few years ago. I lusted after one but after a few months it just bored me. You can't do anything to personalise them without destroying its value, they are not 'that' fast (a lot of hot hatches will blow them away), service costs were excessive compared to the performance, and they are not that involving...I hated that i couldnt access the engine. It did look nice though from certain angles.
I have an R53 JCW as a weekend toy and it is as much fun, if not more fun than 80-90% of much more expensive, faster and 'better' cars. Yes, the interior is cheap beyond words, it rattles, its clunky, its uncomfortable for a long drive, you cant fit a shoebox in the boot, but none of that matters when youre screaming through a corner with the supercharger whining.
FYI The water temp can be selected to be displayed on the digital part of the speedo (it can on mine, it has the dual gauges).

No, No it wont, they last for 80-100k miles before you gotta do some serious work in them. Head gasket will fail around 100l, chains will fail at 120k the clutch needs replacing at 50k The electric power steering pump will also fail at around 90 to 100k aswell. The car is great fun but unless your a mechanic who knows how to do that work yourself your in for big money if you want to keep it on the road till 200k. And once you hit 200k all that work will need doing again.

This guy proves that if you love the car and love driving it who cares what it costs to repair right? My funnest car I owned was a 1985 toyota supra with high miliage and it cost me the most in repairs but I loved it. Of course many people do not want to admit getting burned so one has to watch many reviews. Not just one.

No matter which mini you get, you gotta keep it maintained and while they are plagued with some troubles, if you want a wonderfully fun and fast car that handles like it’s on rails, then go for it. Look for one that has been maintained though I can’t express that enough. If the first owners beat it, you’ll be paying for it. There are lots of videos showing you how to do the regular maintenance and I’ve had fun with it. Just don’t get a speeding ticket!!

Not sure if I agree with the part about it being the best daily driver around for the money.
I have a 2003 Cooper S, and while I really like it, and it's great fun to drive, it's an awful daily lol! I've driven it like that for a week and was glad to switch back to my regular daily. The fuel consumption is eye watering for such a small engine, the ride is way too hard, the clutch and gears are heavy (at least in mine) so get tiresome in traffic, it can't carry a weekly shop properly, and nor can it really take rear passengers unless they are midgets. It is easy to park, but that's just about all that it has going for it as a daily.
A lot of truth to the illusion of speed part. Sometimes I've felt that I've really been cracking on, only to look down at the speedometer and see that I'm doing a speed that I wouldn't even think twice about in my other, much more refined, but far slower car. Such a good thing because it gives the fun but less risk of getting caught doing something illegal and makes it possible more often.

They’re really cheap in the UK as road tax is £325 per year, which is about a third of the purchase price of a rough one. Good review, the only thing I’d disagree with is going for high option spec on an old car. It’s just more to break, far better to go for lower miles and service history. I’d rather have the most basic spec. Your review kinda backs this up, as your sat nav control and software is useless, the screen is pixellated and sunroof doesn’t work!

The torque steer on the mini is not bad. But I didn't buy the diff because of that.
Slow speed cornering with the open diff SUCKS. You can either turn off the traction control and understeer into a wall or leave it on and feel the car lurch when the brakes are applied. I put the wavetrac on and it's a new car. I had to re-learn how to drive it because all the areas where I experienced understeer are gone. The car has so much grip that I was startled by how much grip I had the first hard corner I took that I almost wrecked over correcting the car when it didn't need to be over corrected. And I still have the stock Rear sway bar.

Why would anyone want to buy these pieces of shit a transmission cost about 8 grand and cant be rebuilt. Get yourself a toyota. These cars are a money pit always having issues, car is poorly made with shit parts, My advice is stay away.
