    • @LucyPero
      @LucyPero 8 лет назад +380

      ***** This comment I found on the Steam forums sums this up perfectly:
      "Lag is a common word meaning to fail to keep up or to fall behind.
      Lag is also often used in reference to video games to describe the delay (or latency) between an action by a player and the reaction of the game.
      so by the definition alone.....anything that slows the game whether it be internet or not....is LAG"
      " "Lag" is perfectly applicable to frame rate, as in, the rendered frames are lagging behind the actions performed."
      So, using "laggy" in this context is definitely a "proper term for these things". If you know a word that describes low framerate in a more "proper" manner, then please let me know ;)

    I actually really respect their use of real locations. It explains why some zones do feel so human, but grand at the same time. Rather than making something so outlandish you feel taken aback they give you something real that is so grand it fits right into the rest of their world.

    • @pinktrash2720
      @pinktrash2720 2 года назад +73

      Their use of real locations is the first thing they would do. In design, it's called 'reference'. They'll take a lot of pictures, put it together and create a moodboard for a specific area they like to design. It would be really hard and would take a long time if you'll try to make something that's not real or inspired from reality. I work in concept design, and one of the things we would take into consideration are things that are familiar and something what we can easily identify ourselves in.

    The last place is Craco Vecchia (Italy, Basilicata). It is a small village initially abandoned around the 60s and finally in 1980 after an earthquake that caused parts of the city to collapse. Today it is called "ghost town". When I first visited it a few weeks ago, as I approached I thought "Wow I'm in Dark Souls". The video does not do justice to what you find when you arrive: crows flying over abandoned and destroyed buildings, the disturbing silence of a place where other people used to live and where now everything is motionless and still in time and finally a small cemetery near the city, with its lighted candles. I felt a sense of awe and uneasiness but at the same time I felt at home. Unfortunately I did not find any bonfires

    Maybe I'm just weird. But when I see old buildings and all the stones, bricks, and mortar in these obscure locations, I can't help but always think about the fact that those physically had to be built. I just get vivid images of people actually needing to form those bricks and stones somewhere, hauling them to these locations and physically building them brick by brick. The amount of man power and time it took to make things in older times was enormous. I dunno, whatever.

      Eric Stilthool - Easy to say until you spend a very long time making something incredibly easy by these standards.
      Many people still look at certain ancient structures today and believe there was no humanly possible way to have built them without some grossly misunderstood method at the time. That is how hard they were. Complex enough that we still haven't discovered how they did it.

    • @OttoGrainer27
      @OttoGrainer27 8 лет назад +110

      Eric Stilthool Yeah right, revolutionary... You know what Hertz said when asked about the ramifications of discovering radiowaves?
      "Nothing, I guess. [...] It's of no use whatsoever."
      Shows what he knew. Up until the 19th century, scientists still thought electricity and magnetism were completely separate things. Newton's gravitational theory had flaws. Einstein's alternative has flaws. Gravity doesn’t fit in with the universe’s other three fundamental forces: the electromagnetic, the weak, and the strong. To date, gravitons are still undetectable.
      More to the point, what the fuck has this got to do with ancient buildings? We saw the effects of waves, it adds evidence to theories. This means nothing. You don't need to quote a guardian article that has been _"corrected"_ to argue a point. I have no idea what you are trying to say, did first nation people have telekinesis? We know very little about how they cut rock so cleanly, we know even less about gravity.

    • @Un1234l
      @Un1234l 8 лет назад +41

      No, I immediately rewound many parts of the video because I couldn't believe that these marvelous ancient buildings existed and were built by man, yet for some reason they were abandoned.

It's practically imposible to take pictures with a conventional camera or cellphone because of the high humidity, as it fogs the lens. The humidity in that cave is so high it can go to 90% - 99% and the temperature goes up to 58°C (Sorry if I can't tell you in Fahrenheit). It's a beautiful yet scary place. Workers can only be down there for approximately half an hour to avoid serious damage by the conditions. They need to wear a special suit with O2 Tanks. Idk if this interests you but look it up on Google if you want. It's called the Naica Cave.

    dark souls really had a fantasy world like no other. it remained extravagant without relying on magic in a world full of it. theres no boss fight or dilapidated city on top the clouds like in the later games, everything is accounted for within the logic of our reality. the boulders that torment you in sens fortress are dropped not from a magic box but from a giant. the massive moving staircases in the dukes archives are twisted by pulling a lever. elden ring was such a departure from the grounded nature of the souls series. elevators just float now.

  • @f0ns0r
    @f0ns0r 3 года назад +7

    I found another connection. In Anor Londo, on the wall of an entire room (or 2, dont remember), there are 2 images of 2 statues alterned for the whole room, when I saw them a long time ago while playing DS I had a dejavu feeling that somehow convinced me there was a link with the style of the statues of Uffizi museum entrance in Florence. Those statues outside the Uffizi rapresent the famous characters of the city's past, they are plenty, and comparing one by one I found the screen of statues in Anor Londo coincide ecxatly with 2 statues of 2 "minor" character in Uffizi (prob they didnt pick the most famous ones like Dante's. Michelangelo's or Da Vinci's etc... to not make the font recognizable ). So no doubt about that, they are copy-pasted from there... super useless information, but I realized I was (and still I'm) the only one to know it in the world lol.

    This is one of the things that made DS1 so special.
    Real life inspired locations all beatifully connected.
    I was really disappointed with DS2 because :
    - Most areas are visually boring ( not counting the dlc's );
    - Most areas made no geographical sense;
    And most importantly,
    - The warping feature being introduced so early on ( and they are doing the same thing in DS3 btw ).

    • @anonymous535
      @anonymous535 8 лет назад +9

      +Markes von Hinten I thought DS3 was absolutely fantastic, actually my favorite in the series. I think the warping worked out alright since areas flowed together well enough (especially compared to DS2's janky transitions.) Did you play it yet? What did you think of DS3?

    • @anonymous535
      @anonymous535 8 лет назад +3

      ***** That's an excellent analysis, and that's very intelligent to wait for a complete edition - not only do you get all the DLC but a fully patched game with balance and stability improvements (I believe a recent patch fixed crashing and improved fps for many people.) I can understand your criticism of enemy and art design, however the levels and bosses in DS3 are some of my favorite, and are high quality the entire way through (no post-Anor-Londo dropoff like in DS1.) DS3 is definitely my favorite in series, though DS1 is a close second.

      ***** Exactly. I'd bet one thousand dollars that there will be a "complete" edition similar to DS1:PTD, DS2:SOTFS, etc. However sadly I do not have one thousand dollars to spare on gambling so instead I will bet two dollars and a half-eaten pack of Starbursts.

    • @TheVixalazio
      @TheVixalazio 6 лет назад

      Ds 3 is as amazing as Ds 1 and much better than the simplified version of Ds (bb). BB was a huge disappointment. It was extremely repetitive, shallow, very monotonous and simple. It also had a high percentage of terrible bosses and levels. Highly overrated console action game with very little depth made specifically for console players. People judging games from streams are just pretentious.
